Thank you for that! My Father played Ryan in Ryan's Daughter and I lived in Dingle for a year when I was 14. I watched filming nearly every day and now, in my 60's live close to Sarah Miles in Hampshire. Very happy memories.

Thank you for sharing your kind message, this film has given me many years of pleasure and will continue to do so. Your father played a marvellous part - you must be very proud. Thanks again, Lesley

I absolutely loved your father's acting abilities in this film: the ending was so sad for the fact that Ryan had no choice but to keep his mouth shut and allow his daughter to be accused of that crime...... and she knew it!

@@valerieenglish1003 Thank you Valerie! I never understood why the critics destroyed this film and the reputation of it's director, David Lean.
@valerieenglish10033 жыл бұрын
@@abigailmckernwalkingwithpo4582 The problem was the fact that David Lean wanted another huge war epic like Dr Zhivago: but the fact was to not make the IRA into the Russian revolution! As at that time Vietnam was raging out of control.... The Love scene in the woods is totally laughable where Lean goes overboard on the nature trail😉 with a soft Awakening : which was totally not what she desired and as we'd all now gone through the 60s, it seemed rather silly..... and already seen the "lust" scene in the pub..... No need for a nature trail making the film 30 minutes too long) Your father's scene in the sea was epic: so real.... and where not everyone wanted to rally round those provos ruling over them! So jealous of you being there 😜😂

My mum came from just across the bay in Glenbeigh. So, as a child, I had many a holiday trip there and Yes, the fuschia along the paths and tracks is a big memory. It's a glorious part of the world but the weather can never be predicted. David Lean waited for days, weeks even, to get the absolute right conditions for a particular shot during the movie. The cinematography in Ryan's Daughter is wonderful, especially those coastal views.

So glad you enjoyed it, it was great fun seeking out the places, it was a great way to find our way around the Dingle Peninsular- stunningly beautiful. Glad it filled in some gaps for you

Great video Paul. An epic movie heritage made in one of our favourite cruising areas. A few nights swinging on the hook in Ventry harbour created life long memories. Dingle a favourite if not a little overcrowded in high summer.

Discovered you today. Added to my list of all time heroes, for advocating real science, principle, and common sense, (in the face of an unrelenting self willed ignorance, en masse) I'm grateful to you also for bringing attention back to an earth shattering work of art. The Kevin Brownlow book on David Lean was a great accounting of the man's meticulous eye for beauty reflected in every frame of every one of his moving pictures. Had I wanted to be a filmmaker, Lean's work would have me reconsider another career as his standard of work acts as both an inspiration, but also an intimidation. I don't know why I'm compelled to amend my comment, I meant to say Lean's eye for composition. Minor point, but a big minor point. Thank you again Mr. Burgess

Hi from Cape Town Enjoyed your Ryan's Daughter memories. The Credits at the beginning of the film says filmed on the west coast of Ireland, but some scenes were filmed here on the Cape Peninsula, scenes were cleverly merged with those on the Dingle. The wreck today is almost gone, but the rocks where Rosie was given the Crayfish by Michael, are still there. Look on google maps for the Wreck of the Kapoko near Kommetjie, and you will see my pictures. Better still come to South Africa and complete your Revisit youtube!

Thanks Robert, we read about the sequences filmed in South Africa in the Michael Tanner book. We spent a lot of time in South Africa in 2009 pity we hadn't known about it then!

Surprised you did not visit the schoolhouse, or what is left of it. It still sits there minus roof and inside walls . Again the victim of local squabbling over the land. It is about a one half mile hike behind the Blasket Island Center. I share your fondness for Ryan's Daughter. Watch it sometimes just for the scenery.
