While this movie is far from perfect in a number of ways, for some reason i just really like this movie. Just one of those rare movies that i really like despite knowing it isnt the best. Seen it a few times actually especially when it came out. The concept especially is just so unique and i love that aspect of it. I would love to see a better remake of this or a tv show because i agree the concept is brilliant

She wasn't storing it, just before they part company at the beginning she says after she pays off the loan she won't have long left. Presumably if she doesn't pay it off that day they'd charge more interest so she wanted to get it out of the way and thought she'd still have 30 minutes left to get to Will after she paid it. Unfortunately the bus trip doubled in price seemingly overnight which is kind of a lot. So it cost 2 hours and she couldn't get back to Justin Timberlake fast enough and she timed out.

@@Lboogieg Think nothing of it. I've seen it a few times so I knew what went wrong. Even worse for Olivia Wilde, despite being very aware that she was cutting it close she gave Will some of her time to get a "decent lunch". Why she chose that day I do not know. It was her birthday after all and she's giving away the time she should be holding onto just in case something utterly predictable (like raising prices out of nowhere) happens.
@greyscalesx
@greyscalesx Жыл бұрын
@@uosdwiSrdewoH you say till this I don't know why she gave him for lunch when she was cutting it close. Bc she's a mom, that's why. They are dirt poor they are a paycheck away from being on the streets. They are always cutting it close. That's how they live. She didn't think it would have mattered. Things don't usually double their cost overnight. Many mums have gone without for their kids all over the world without blinking an eye. My dad walked out on us and opened a bar with his mistress and they partied everyday meanwhile he didn't pay child support. We were scraping by even though she was also working evening shifts. I remember she sometimes wouldn't eat with us and said she already had eaten before and she would just have dessert and ate a a couple of oranges. I didn't know back then it was the last days of the month and she only ate our left overs and said oranges. It happened a few times but I remember the oranges thing clearly bc it was strange to me. The mom in this movie took a risk bc this is how they live and you tend to normalise living in the edge otherwise you'd go insane. It ended up being a fatal one.

@@greyscalesxoranges make perfect sense. It would fight off scurvy while she wasn't eating
@greyscalesx
@greyscalesx 4 ай бұрын
@sunshinyday8648 Yes, most likely. I thought for a while that she ate oranges, bc it was the only thing left in the house. But thinking back on it, it was coincidentally almost always the last fruit left at the end of the month. They are pretty cheap for a fruit, but so are apples. We liked apples better, so she also bought some too, we got OG juice at school for lunch, though. She was a nurse, so I do think she anticipated it & did buy oranges on purpose bc she thought of scurvy, you are right.

The film was written by Andrew Niccol, who also wrote Gattaca and The Truman Show, and most recently Anon. He tends to make films about "if this happens in the future, how might it affect society?"

The genius of this film is that it perfectly illustrates Capitalism. Justin's character makes the time capsules, just like workers generate the profits, but neither get to benefit from that. The rising costs reflect inflation. Couldn't be more relevant than right now, in the cost of living crisis.

Thanks for different content !!! Okay, so here is the issue. Reactors ask that we subscribe, like and comment and mostly we do. Then there is an MCU or other popular release. All of a sudden, every reactor responds to the exact same new release. So now I get 15 or more identical notifications about a new release that I haven't even seen yet myself. I suppose there are some that don't mind that at all. As for me, I would rather watch something myself before viewing someone else's chopped up, heavily edited, KZbin version. Why would I want to see someone react to something I haven't yet reacted to myself? My solution.....Unsubscribe to everything, look for reactors doing original content and subscribe to those. Those willing to set themselves apart are the ones worth the time to watch. If you want to blend in, then be the same as everyone else. No one ever stood out by being like all the others. As an example, in one day (24 hours) there were no less than 34 reactions to Moon Knight. I received 16 notifications from reactors I had subscribed to. I unsubscribed from all of them. How many different reactions to Moon Knight or Spider-man or the latest Batman is a person expected to watch?

I did a rough math calculation using simple ratio of 30 minutes for a decent lunch, which I equated to 10 dollars. 1 dollar : 3 minutes = 518,400,000 dollars : 1,555,200,000 minutes (1,000 years). So essentially they wanted the dad to throw half a billion to people that live on getting paid 480$ a day. That's without taking rent, transport and time TO SLEEP. Also the million years would be 518,400,000,000$, half a trillion dollars.

This is one of those Philip K. Dick flavored movie popular in the late 00s to early 10s. Off the top of my head there's Surrogates, Adjustment Bureau(this one is an actual adaptation of his story) & Limitless for more movies with the same vibe. Limitless even got an awesome sequel/spinoff series. Other, actual PKD adaptation includes Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report & to my surprise, Paycheck(starring Ben Affleck & Uma Thurman).

Congrats to Tom and his wife! I'm pretty much on the same page with you in your analysis of this movie. I love it for its concept and some great scenes but it does feel like it gets bogged down in places which takes away from it. Have you seen Rounders? It's the best poker movie there is. There's another independent film out there called Timer that is about a device people choose to get installed that will tell you the exact moment you meet your soul mate but only if your soul mate also has their timer implanted. It is a very interesting movie. Another good independent film is The Scapegoat. Nothing to do with time travel, it's an update (sort of) of The Prince and the Pauper. Just thought id mention it because it's really good, I've rewatched it several times and enjoy it every time. i think you have already watched the movie Primer? Thought I'd mention it just in case, another independent film and about time travel. The movie definitely has issues but it will seriously mess with your brain in a compelling way. Best Regards!

Its basically futuristic Bonnie & Clyde with a twist. And i really hoped that the lore of this film would have been better explored, honestly, who started the clock?? is it something that just happened with human evolution?? did humanity reach a breaking point and someone or even nature decided to correct the population with it?? who really was the time keeper Raymond?? did he come from the getto?? what was the life of the rich man that gave Will his time at the beggining?? i feel like he had a lifetime of stories to tell and of many regrets, there's a lot of things that where left behind in the film that should have better been explored. I love, love loveeee this movie, the aesthetic, the score, its like a bitter sweet romeo and juliet distopian love story. But i confess it would have been a thousand times better to leave the romance in one side to explore the other parts that the world building didn't get.

They never needed to make this a series, most folk already live this day to day. We can’t afford heating cos we need the gas to cook food. This film has a simple concept: time is money. How many hours can you physically work? How much money are those hours worth? If that equation isn’t in the positive, then you’re homeless and destitute. Welcome to capitalism. Hope you have a positive bank balance.

Disagree completely. This movie was hacky and poorly written and acted but it did not feel long especially compared to Dune. Dune felt like it was 9 hours long, I’ve never seen something so visually appealing but painfully tedious and emotionally bereft. In Time was just dumb, Dune was long, boring and soulless.

Agreed - they made the entire message weak by being so overt about it. People walk around asking someone wealthy, "do you come from time?" - WAY too literal.
@gluuuuue
@gluuuuue 2 жыл бұрын
1) I like this film, not necessarily because it's a widely well-regarded one, but I really thought it was a great premise and concept, very reminiscent of that kind of.. mid-20th-century science fiction (which seems to be one of the reasons those who dislike it do so, the other being overall general execution). But I'm glad one of you larger reaction channels are taking a chance to watch it. 2) Time = money One of the reasons mentioned by critics is how heavy-handed they find the literal metaphor. Politically, while I think wealth inequality is a significant ongoing issue in society, I think the exploration of the metaphor is fascinating because, in the real world, time is more precious, in the sense, that no amount of money ever bought an additional moment in time. Once we lose moments, they're gone forever. Most of us live in a society where value is quantified and counted in money. So how money works is fundamentally important, yet it's a topic and subject the large majority of people on the planet all seem to struggle with. Instead of people using money as a tool to make their lives better, most people's lives are ruled by money, their desire for it and fear of losing it. The translation of money into time people have left to live is, I think, an extremely useful hypothetical and continues to be, because, for most people, their problems with money haven't been solved. 3) Where the metaphor breaks down, and where my criticism of the story lies, is that time isn't analogous to money, because time here is treated as fixed total amount everyone collective has, and "transacting" it or transferring it is zero sum: that is, one person gives n minutes, another gets n minutes. People can't collectively create more time, insinuating the wealthy can *only* become so by taking time, be it minutes, months, or years from others. And a LOT of people believe this applies to money as well, but that's false. Money, or more specifically, economic *value*, isn't a zero-sum game. Economic value in the aggregate can be increased and is, not only by the use of capital and natural resources, but from efficiency gains that result from technology, improvements, and better utilization. 4) I think 7/10 is pretty dead on.

12:00 Exactly my reaction when accidentally watching this crap! Holes in the script big enough to drive a truck through. Lack of entertainment that only Disney can provide (or so I thought). So, not to offend, at 12:07 I sign off from this reaction!

You said this should be a tv program, it was originally a tv short film on channel 4.

Weird film. Had completely forgotten it. It's a cool concept, but the film just feels.... bland.
