I think the proof of donation is sort of necessary just because she used it as a promo point to the palette--like you said, people are broke, and people bought the palette that might not have otherwise purchased it because she promised 50% would go to pro-choice charities. And I agree, I don't think she necessary needs to show like a screenshot, but at least something like, "you guys, thank you so much for purchasing the palette, because of you, we were able to donate x amount of dollars to [insert charity here]!" Edit: I think the palette alone retailed around $42 US, if anyone was curious.

Yea if she donated such a large amount she can show proof without showing her bank info. Like usually charities issue a thank you message or card for donating. She can literally look through email for the thank you email with the backdate.

The FTC laws are not “difficult to work with as they are.” ALL an influencer has to do is _disclose._ Disclose that they are getting paid to promote a product, disclose they’ve been gifted a product in PR, disclose they are using affiliate links, whatever the case may be. All you have to do is _say that._ It’s not hard at all. It’s actually quite simple. And they can start with just 3 little characters: #AD

about the charity; I believe the least a content creator can do when raising funds with OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY is show them the receipt to show how much money everyone raised together. I’ve never seen a situation with a content creator where they didn’t show proof of a group donation/raised donations through a percentage of profit. Kendall Rae raises money for charity all the time and always shows receipts. It’s not hard and only becomes an issue when the content creator AVOIDS showing proof bc then that makes people think you’re hiding something

Zoomers and Alphas will get tired of the toxic positivity that stans always have when it comes to their faves like we have, they'll get tired of the lies, they'll get tired of the lack of accountability. It's only a matter of time. It's also only a matter of time before the FTC comes knockin' on TikTok influencers' doors. They've already done it before. History tends to repeat itself. @SweetLA Aww, thank you so much for the encouragement, I really appreciate it! I've been serving just a little over a year now (Dec 21st was my 1 year) and I really do love the job. I've always been overly empathetic and an extreme people pleaser, so doing a job that's so geared towards giving others a positive experience is incredibly satisfying for me. Getting those compliments about what a great waitress I am or hearing about how someone will definitely be back after such a good experience is such a huge serotonin boost! I have way more good experiences with customers than I do bad ones, and I'm definitely getting better about letting the bad ones slide off my back (like, I almost never cry anymore and I think I pretty much cried almost every day my first couple of weeks lol) but I'm definitely not all the way there yet. A really bad experience with a Karen can still ruin a shift for me, especially if I'm already having a hard day. I know it'll only get easier as time goes on tho. And you're so right, the money is far better than I ever imagined it would be! I've done the math and at my current position I can average about $33 an hour. Every time someone says or acts like serving isn't a "real job" I'm like "Oh yeah, you've definitely never served before" Lol. It can be dang good money if you put the effort in and work at the right place. One of my long-term goals is to eventually try my hand at fine dining. That's where big bucks are. I just couldn't imagine leaving my current restaurant anytime soon tho. I adore my regulars, and I have the sweetest boss/owner who would legit give me the shirt off his back if I needed it. With all the horror stories out there, I can't imagine getting this lucky again. And I also couldn't imagine doing anything else. Before I started, I never thought of serving as being a job that you could be passionate about, but here I am Lol. It's a far different animal than customer service.

Like they thought it was a guy who got fired for cheating on his wife when it was really about a guy who got fired for dating his employee. I hate that these two beauty influencers are being allowed back into the public sphere, but I don't think Mikayla should be let off the hook easily either. I'm not in the community or wear make up at all but Loreal has had ads for that specific mascara banned in the UK for the exact thing people are criticizing Mikayla for. The FTC and SEC are realizing the damage influencers are causing, which is why we are seeing more people like Kim Kardashian get hit with fines. This is going to affect more than just beauty and if there continues to be this big issue with false or misleading adverts then someone is going to end up losing in the end and I have a feeling it is not going to be big corporations.

If you make a genuine apology, you understand the other person may not except it or may not respond- and that’s OK. She built her career from seeming honest and relatable... she broke trust between her and her audience (me included) I watched her latest videos and the lack of acknowledgement, concern, or even common decency to at least apologize at least just say "hey Ik what I did can be seen as misleading sorry about that I'll improve"... she doesn't give a shit about her audience and it shows... It's aggravating as fuck because I liked her and took her advice and listened to her recommendations but now I can't do that! Idk if I'll ever to be able to do that again...

Let’s be honest. She found fame because she’s HIDEOUS and found a way to hide that with make up. They liked the underdog, the ugly girl being good at something means *they* can do it if someone like *her* can. She doesn’t have a good personality, she isnt interesting and listening to her trash accent is like listening to a cheese grater on a chalk board.

I feel like when people are rude and they say "I'm sorry I just have social anxiety" that it's just a cop out. I have bad social anxiety and unless it's happened and they just didn't say anything I've never been perceived as rude when I wasn't being rude. I also have friends with social anxiety and I've never seen or heard of anyone perceiving them as rude either. Like, if anything social anxiety makes you hyper aware of how you act so I feel like you would be making extra sure that you're not accidentally giving dirty looks or doing things that could be perceived as rude or snotty. But maybe that's just me and my friends.

To be honest here, I think influencers have had a TON of free reign. Getting famous is hard, yes, getting brand deals is hard if you’re small, yes. But requirements around being responsible and ethical with your brand and advertisement choices? I think that’s fine. I don’t have a problem with it. Like any other industry it should be regulated to some extent

Why would you apologize to somebody who you claim is full of shit? She obviously went into specifics in the apology; so it did happen. But she's trying to gaslight her audience into believing this waiter is full of shit and is lying? Despite admitting to the apology? She's a terrible manipulator. Wtf lmao

The only ones I will trust with reviews are Raw Beauty Kristi and Robert Welsh. They are unbiased, use lighting that will show the true authenticity of the products they try, and offer constructive criticism while offering cheaper options. Not only is she following in Jaclyn Hill’s footsteps and copying every action she does…Mikayla is a hop, skip and a jump aways from stealing someone else’s brand. She will have to rethink her entire brand now, because no one will trust her reviews now. Also, because she lied about the product, she technically broke her contract with L’Oreal and FTC laws. Lying should ALWAYS be taken seriously.

I will say, something that I’ve seen recently exposing her, is that she uses a beauty filter when she’s bare faced and doing her makeup. People have dug up video of her BEFORE she was famous when she didn’t use all the filters and now it’s all she uses. Don’t get me wrong I honestly don’t give a sh** on her or what she does. I do think she’s wrong false lashes when promoting a mascara, but I’ve disliked her since that video she made about “how hard it is for her to be an influencer and how people who work will never work as hard as her”. I’ve thought she was utter trash since that controversy.

The point of the ftc guidelines is to protect consumers, particularly vulnerable consumers such as kids and teens, so if I’m honest the negative impact it has on influencers is not what’s important here , what about the negative impact on everyday people who have to work hard for their money and get scammed from greedy influencers?

I have no issue with the FTC being more involved with influencer marketing. The reason these rules are in place is because influencers were misrepresenting their brand deals to their audience to make it look like they WEREN’T being paid to say something even if they were. Influencers have a HUGE amount of influence (ie their title) over their audience and that should be regulated. I’m sorry, but these people are making hundreds of dollars to promote a brand/product - the least they could do is follow some rules (like the rest of us have to do when we go to work).

She may not take it down because it may be seen as an admission of guilt. For example, if a customer slips and falls in a restaurant and the manager runs over and says, "oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" and the court will frequently see it as an admission of guilt. I could easily see people in the court of public opinion saying, "if you didn't do anything wrong, why did you take the video down?" I think that waiting to respond (hopefully because she is talking to her lawyer and getting advice from reputation restoration consultants. It is concerning that it is taking so long because anything she does now is going to be eyed with extreme suspicion, especially if it is extremely emotional. This didn't have to be a career ending misstep, but the longer she waits, the greater the ramifications may be.
