Oof. It's terrible to do at any age, but particularly for disabled people of any age. I have a comparatively milder neurological condition. I don't need observation, but I can't work and need a carer to cook and clean for me. Here is what could happen if I was grabbed by my head: * my neck muscles spasm due to the shock, which would cause rigidity throughout my whole body as a knock-on effect for hours, and leaving me in incredible pain for days/weeks * I try to pull his hands away or push him off if I have a "fight/flight" response, which could cause me to hurt my hands and arms or have a fall * unable to verbally resist if I have a "freeze" response * allodynia - hypersensitive to touch, all physical stimulus is painful - means that I would be certainly in pain due to being unprepared for him to touch me * trauma from my childhood would be triggered, causing me immense emotional distress * fatigue would make the whole event especially tiring - I would be helpless for days * as I am semi-verbal, it's possible I wouldn't be able to explain the situation to any other staff and unable to defend myself * confusion due to brain fog slowing cognition That's me as someone who doesn't need the level of support that people in care homes need. Others may have seizures or panic attacks or even worse. And, no matter what, it would always be a huge violation to be manhandled by staff who control your entire life, who will always be considered more reliable than a patient with brain problems. It is not difficult to manipulate someone who can't trust their memory or their perceptions, because even if you don't fool them, anything like that can sometimes be dismissed as simply a delusion, flashback, communication problem etc. and suddenly any testimony or complaints are pathologised. Nobody thinks about it until it happens to them, but having to rely on carers to treat you well is always scary. It's always a fear that they can turn on you one day and you can't fight them off. Anyone thinking about dismissing it after knowing all this is a vile person.

Touch can help when communicating with people with i.e. dementia or hearing issues. If I've known the patient for a long time and know that they are mentally still capable to give consent, sometimes I put my hand on their shoulder or upper back while in a conversation. In very rare occasions if a patient is agitated or in pain I can hold their hand, but ALWAYS ask first. Hugging or kissing is an absolute no, regardless of patient group, country/culture or facility. I have no sympathy for the person in the video and I truly hope he gets consequences for his actions.

@Andrew Milks you arent being rude, dont worry 😊 I know not everyone believes that an adult can be groomed, but they definitely can, especially if that person is a vulnerable adult. For me, I was very naive and easily influenced. I was brought in a semi-sheltered environment and I had no real life experience. I wasn't used to getting attention of anyone. I had very low self esteem and that was taken advantage of. My ex had a pattern of targeting young women who had mental health issues. Grooming is when a person targets someone. Usually this is a child, a young person or a vunerable adult. Often, they start by love bombing, giving them excessive amounts of attention and getting the vunerable person to become dependent on them. They go on on to build a relationship with them, so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them. After I ended the relationship, I could see all the patterns of manipulation, gas-lighting and abuse. At the time it's happening, you don't notice it, and you become accustomed to the way you're treated, because you think its normal. And I think, especially with Paul putting so much into the public, people on the outside can see the patterns and behaviours, that aren't obvious to other parties that are involved. @@anusthingI don’t have any experience with grooming so I’m not really sure, but the human brain doesn’t stop developing until you’re around 26, so I think people in their early 20s are still quite naive. And I’m around that age currently and I’m in quite a vulnerable position, my mental health took a huge hit and I’m going through a lot of changes so I could probably be easily groomed. There are a lot of factors when it comes to being groomed or manipulated, but age is a big one, so I think that’s the main one that people think of.

My mom had a piece of advice for me when I started dating as an adult. If a much older man wants to date you, you need to consider why he isn't dating women his own age. With age comes a certain degree of wisdom and less likely to put up with games and unacceptable/unkind behavior. So he may just like you because of who you are, but it's more likely that women his own age don't tolerate his shitty behavior, that he sees young women as more easily molded/influenced to put up with him. He also may be so attracted to the idea of dating a younger girl that if you show any aging, he gets put off. Now, this isn't true for every older man who decides to date much younger, but it's absolutely enough of them to keep it in mind. You gotta look out for yourself because no one else will.

On kissing people while working as a caregiver- I was a cna at a long-term residential facility for people with intellectual and developmentally who also had acute medical needs(ie if not with us they'd likely spend their lives in and out of hospital.) Basically a mash-up of nursing home, hospital, and adult foster home. He was absolutely backtracking because kissing a resident even on the cheek or head is an outright crime, or at minimum a slippery slope to lawsuits and regulatory bodies coming in, depending on local laws. I'm in the US, but legally someone in your care cannot consent to such an act because of the power imbalance and conflict of interest. I worked for the state so they were pretty strict about this stuff, but at my facility that would have been grounds for being fired, placed on the caregiver mistreatment registry, or even criminal charges
