@@jackj5368 Probably this. Largest expansion of college opportunity since the GI Bill. President Clinton and Vice President Gore nearly doubled financial aid for students by increasing Pell Grants to the largest award ever, expanding Federal Work-Study to allow 1 million students to work their way through college, and by creating new tax credits and scholarships such as Lifetime Learning tax credits and the HOPE scholarship.

@@Shockkings0714 Clinton did the kind of politics that was required at the time. Reagan revolution moved America significantly to the right, Clinton had to run on centerist platform to win the election. If he had run on a pure leftist platform he would have lost. Even then, that neo-liberal tried to pass a national healthcare service in 90s, the one Sanders etc proposing, his bill couldn't pass through congress even with democrat majority in both houses.

@@jackj5368 What the hell that has to do with what he accomplished as a president economically? Clinton created most jobs by president in history- 22 million. He is the only president in last 50 yrs to balance the budget & have budget surplus. He led the largest peacetime economic expansion in American history. If a president can achieve all this now, American people wouldn't care if he screws a donkey.

Clinton knew how to play the political game in the White House. Bush was riding Reagan's coattails. Bush Jr. was riding his daddy's coattails. Obama was constantly trying to reach across the aisle, while continually being stopped by Congress from getting anything done. And Trump, well, it speaks for itself.

@munimathbypeterfelton6251
@munimathbypeterfelton6251 3 жыл бұрын
Well he was the first Democratic President since FDR to get re-elected to the White House, so that does say something. Of course, had JFK not been assassinated and had Harry Truman sought re-election in 1952, either or both of them may have achieved second terms as well. LBJ on the other hand would not have won re-election given what was going on in Vietnam, millions of American soldiers losing their lives, and his polls plummeting by the day in 1968.
@DavidHutchinson0713
@DavidHutchinson0713 3 жыл бұрын
@@munimathbypeterfelton6251 JFK would have been re-elected, I'm also certain of that. He's pretty popular, and his charisma helped him tons. On the other hand, I don't think Truman had a chance of getting a second full term. The Korean War was becoming a quagmire, with neither side really winning or losing. That caused his approval rating to severely plummet, to only 21%. The relief of General Douglas MacArthur, a popular World War II hero, also didn't do him much favors, even if Truman ended up being vindicated by history later on (besides general outspoken opposition to the Truman administration's policies. MacArthur wanted to nuke China, which would have led to another world war, and of course nobody in the higher ups were eager to deal with that, only 6 years or so after the bloodfest that was World War II).

Yeah, I definitely think Bill Clinton's the best president since Eisenhower as well. JFK's presidency was both flawed (take a poor management of the Bay of Pigs invasion, for one), AND was cut short by his assassination. LBJ pulled a massive win in civil rights (which is utterly ironic, considering that his state was a Confederate state), but Vietnam really dragged him down. Nixon did good on his first term, but then he shot himself in the ass through Watergate. Ford and Carter are both equally flawed, especially in domestic matters. Reagan was a solid president IMO, but fell short of the truly greatest list due to certain matters such as Iran-Contra and federal deficit, and it was Reagan's presidency that created the stage of partisan divide that Americans live in today. Lastly, Papa Bush did well in foreign matters (with a major success by winning the Gulf War), but domestic wise, he also failed (no need to remind you of the whole "read my lips: no new taxes" debacle, ya?).
