Nice demos. The FIMI Manta VTOL appears to have challenged many both using INAV and Ardupilot setups. This one seems to be flying quite nicely. I do like the touches of yellow with the darker foam. A yellow stripe on a wing might help with LOS visibility as well.

Yes it's terrible for LOS orientation being small and all black

MAATE!, Guess who built a Ranger T1 Vtol and didn't add a Compass !!!,,, yep. Me. Took me 3 attepts at Loitering to realise why it was just wondering off !!, Haha this vid made me spit out my tea when you said that. Ardupilot states NOT to transition into a NON auto flying mode from hover, says will immediately stall. Not sure about what INAV says, but it's a thing I guess.

Yep compass made a big difference. INAV says the same thing, need a transition mode to build up airspeed.

Nice video Andrew. I believe you have convinced me to load INAV onto my recently received (but not yet assembled) Manta. I find Ardupilot too cryptic/complex and much prefer INAV.

Hi Andrew, this is super interesting, when you say adapt the settings, what do you mean ? Have you changed the motor tilting support, is it necessary, even if the original one is still intact ? Have you planned to make a video concerning radio and inav 7.1 programming ? Patrice

Just servo trims really. If everything else is the same it will be close to right. The replacement mounts changed the angles a little.

Hi Andrew I am building a ranger 1600 and am very new to the hobby. I was given components that I think are way to hefty for the build but they were free so I want to give them a shot. I have a pixel hawk with a x8R receiver and se 100 GPS module. I am unsure how to power the pixel hawk without frying it. As far as I understand I need a power module to divert and monitor power in the battery and a ESC to transfer power from the battery to the motor and the servos. If this is correct do you have any recommendations for a power module and an ESC.
@AndrewNewton6 ай бұрын
Put the PixHawk and GPS aside for the moment. Get it flying with just the receiver first, then when you are comfortable you can add flight controllers later. Any standard 30 or 40A ESC will be OK. For more complexity and weight? It's an airplane that hovers for takeoff and landing, not a acro quad. If you need more yaw, get the motors out wider, and allow for more tilt.
