This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises with Lady Liselot".
That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Waarom ik alles in het Engels doe?
Omdat ik video's kijk van Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers én heel veel Engelstaligen die allemaal Engels lullen en ook bootjesmensen / liveaboards zijn. Want alleen dan kan je je ervaring wereldwijd delen. En wat blijkt? Mijn video's worden in 127 landen bekeken (zie S03/E01 voor de lijst). Veel van mijn kijkers en abonnees zijn Engelstaligen die mijn video's helemaal top vinden, omdat ze óf familie hebben uit Nederland, of hier jaren geleden zijn geboren en door omstandigheden nu elders op de wereld wonen. En, dat ik dan Engels spreek met een accentje (net als de Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers overigens) dan interesseert hen dat geen reet.
Weet je dat Nederlandse ondertiteling aan kan zetten? Doorgaans zo'n 4 uur nadat de video is gepubliceerd. Klik op de video, en kies uit de iconen die rechtsonder verschijnen dan voor [ondertiteling] en kies daar voor Nederlands. Dan wordt zelfs mijn steenkolen Engels (knap he van die jongens en meisjes KZbin) vertaald naar Nederlandsch.

Excellent video. People are learning how to read and deal with charts regarding depth. It is very tricky sometimes because we all tend to deal with these issues having in mind what we see, instead of what is documented in ths charts. Good job Henk! Thanks

As always Henk, its a delight to sail with you, you create such good videos, that are relaxing, yet interesting too, and I liked in this one how you explained the sea maps and the depths, then cut over to see what that map translates to for the human eye ( in the real world so to speak). Your really engaging to watch, I never miss a video, and I can see why those on the work boat wanted your signature 😁

Just in case ‚Itinerol B6‘ is a great remedy for seasickness. My wife has huge problems with seasickness and Itinerol B6 helps just great. Big advantage, it doesn’t make you tired nor drowsy….

O wat zou ik graag doen wat jij doet Henk-Jan. Mogelijk gaat het er dit seizoen van komen nu mn boegschroef op de plek zit. Zonder boegschroef varen is met mijn bootje geen lolletje qua sluizen en aanmeren. Juist in t winterseizoen op t water met de CV aan is zo heerlijk.

Hoi Henk-Jan, Ik kijk altijd met veel plezier naar jouw video’s en bewonder altijd jouw rust aan boord bijvoorbeeld tijdens het schutten in een sluis. Je moet het toch allemaal alleen doen… Vraagje: welke app gebruik jij voor de getijden? Ik zag een screenshot na ruim één minuut.

Hoi, dank voor het compliment mbt het schutten, maar het is allemaal echt niet zo moeilijk. Voor die moment dat ik wel mensen aan boord heb, heb ik een headset zodat ik rustig kan blijven praten en ik hoor wat de situatie 'bij het touwtje' is. Pippi Langkous zei eens "Ik heb het nog nooit gedaan, dus ik denk wel dat ik het kan." en anders is het een kwestie van "heel langzaam" en meer dan voldoende stootwillen aan elke kant. Ik gebruik de "Stroomatlas" app. Ook dat is simpel; het zijn een aantal plaatjes met de getijden daarop, en de tijden wanneer eea welke kant uit stroomt. Per plaatje wordt het kaart-referentiestation opgegeven, met de tijden van HW en LW, en dan laat het plaatje zien hoe de stroming is.

Hi Henk! Watching your video to Westerschelde and heard you mention a good seasickness pill you took. Are you able to say what it is? I get very seasick and would one day like to sail the canals in Holland. I'm looking for effective remedy other than "Dramamine" which is what we have in the US

Multratug van de familie Muller, daar in Terneuzen is het allemaal gestart 70 jaar geleden. Ik zou zeggen bij het verlaten van de haven van Terneuzen onmiddellijk de pas oversteken en langs de plaat richting zee en aan voorbij de Dow oversteken, maar... Drie meter onder de kiel bij zakkend water in on beboeide vaargeul, terwijl er één mijl verder een vaargeul is...

Geultje was keurig van tonnetjes voorzien, Er stond 3 tot 4 meter extra onder de kiel in dat geultje, ik voer niet over de wetlands.
