Really nice to hear Dennis on this, he has a great website, alien makers but hasn't updated it for some time. I was lucky enough to have a conversation with him via email several years ago, he even sent me some scans of the slides used to project the alien planet surface used in the movie. Lovely chap!

That Patreon bit was great. When I was little and my mum was watching Alien in the living room, I peeked around the corner for the scene where the android was ripped apart, and I distinctly remember thinking, "Why is he filled with milk??" Years later I find out that it was actually milk, and spoiled!

JP is a bloody marvel, turning his hand, and his Puma hat, to absolutely anything. Proud Patreon supporter, a genuine investment because I learn so much with every InCamera episode. Even though a good part of my day is spent in post doing VFX, I love practical Special FX and wish there was more of it. In the hands of prod it has a quality CG just can't match.

My friends brother in law helped work on the Nostromo model on Alien, apparently when they had finished they had no grey primer and used yellow instead, Riddley Scott thought it looked great.
@InCameraTV
@InCameraTV Жыл бұрын
Correct...there was a time when the Nostromo was painted yellow (Halfords signal yellow paint - I believe), Then Ridley changed his mind back again to having it painted grey. The final paint used on the Nostromo was zinc plate primer - darker than regular grey primer that could be polished to make look more like metal. JP

This channel posts are kind of sporatic but when they post, it is always something really cool. I would love to see them demonstrate forced perspective like what was used in Lord of the Rings. I know other channels have done it but these folks just have this way of explaining things that makes sense to me. I hope they come back soon.

As to 'colour cast', I was amazed to see that the original Enterprise model from Star Trek (in the Smithsonian Museum) has a green tinge to it in reality, yet looked grey in film.

So stoked you came out with part 2! Im a huge fan of Iwata and have a few of their airbrushes, and as far as the compressor I have one with a little tank so I can have a nice constant spray. I wanted to ask, I finished printing the ship, but I printed the top window in clear resin and the 3 little windows in clear. Watching this video I see that they are not actual windows, but tear ducts that a person can crawl into? Maybe a light source comes from them as well? Anyway I saw that you painted over all the windows, are you not using any lights? Great video Im looking forward to the next!
@InCameraTV
@InCameraTV Жыл бұрын
Many thanks!....yes, I printed the top dome and tear ducts in clear resin, then masked window shapes and the inner flat centre recess of the tear ducts with liquid latex. I did not have time to show the latex masking being removed, and the light effect to be seen (but it is there). For LED's, I simply wired 3x2mm warm white for the ducts, and a tiny SMD LED for the main dome/ pilot chamber. I think the tear shaped openings are somewhat linked to the main pilot chamber above...so it makes sense to have them lit when the top pilot chamber is 'activated'.

I have a love hate relationship with airbrushing. I love the fine detail you can do and you can mix all the colours the way you want. But sooner or later you need to clean it and thats the tedious time consuming part. So usually I just use rattle cans and brushes.

Intrestin', innit? You take something meant to be alan, to look and feel completely alanny, and yet to scale it, we imply it's been manufactured out of rectangular pieces of metal. We show itsy bitsy cables and pipes, access grills and hatches. The overall shape might be whacky, but we have to show it's been built how we would build it, otherwise, we can't zork out the size. Just one of the many flavours that show, no matter what, all our stories are about us, because that's what stories are for. Alan has a weird head, and a tail, and is, of course, REALLY mean, but at its heart, the movie is about how one deals with an unwelcome hitch-hiker - teamwork, trouble-shooting, and blowing the git out an airlock. Plus, it's never going to matter which planet one grew up on; the triangle is still the strongest shape, the circular pipe is still the most efficient way of moving fluids, maximum internal volume will always result in using sheets and aerodynamics are going to be the same wherever you go, so, yeah, there's never going to be wholly alan tech. Just an observation. But also, ever noticed the ship is parked with a distinct angle and yet the pilot is in a room with a flat floor? Suggests that slightly up angle is the actual intended orientation of the ship - in turn meaning they probably intentionally parked there - it hasn't crashed. Or that there was only so much budget and building the pilot chamber with a canted floor would have been WAY too expensive, there's that. And now, for some reason, possibly that it's 03.25 and I don't like having woken up this early, my brain just told me to imagine what would have happened if the Alans had encountered the monolith, and the mental image of one going through the stargate is crackin'.
