@@MSPaints Your problem of your dropship looking only 1 colour, all over, is not your fault. The screen model used in Battlestar Galactica, the model kit of it, said not to weather it, at all! Instead, it said use different shades of white. They said it was because of the studio lights also! Here is a link, mate. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6nXiH2ge8-dldE

And he brings out the classic tome! Outstanding! This is great work, though one things always annoys me when I see kits and things made up for the combat drop scene is that every time, the landing gear struts are created wrong and the ship doesn't "crouch" over the struts after touch down. It's a small thing, I know, but there's a specific shot in the movie showing this.

It's rough doing pieces that are supposed to be current active-duty military hardware. The military keeps its gear super clean and in tip top condition. So, a Star Wars style over the top rust, dirt and grime, dents, scrapes, etc may be fun to do and add scale, but would never be seen on military hardware that is in service and not meant to be battle damaged. Makes it challenging to show scale. Good job finding that balance :)

Ship and APC look awesome. Great weathering. Why do the layer of gloss between two layers of primer? I'm unfamiliar with this technique.
@MSPaints Жыл бұрын
It’s to smooth out some of the areas I didn’t sand as fine as I’d like. Primer, gloss and prime again helps to smooth those out a smidge. Useful for big flat surfaces, not so great for minis!

I’m currently building the 1/4000 scale Macross. Movie edition. Took me four tries to get the antenna tower attached to the bridge. Do you any tricks to help steady your hand while your painting or dealing with tiny pieces?

Nice work on the dropship and the APC! I have an ancient Halcyon model kit of the APC that I once started building and never completed. I recall daubing various different shades of green paint onto it while trying to pick which one to use, so discovering that the studio model was actually painted brown is very interesting, though if I ever get back to that kit I may still go with what looks right to me rather than what is prop-accurate. Mind you I know that a full-size APC prop was made, and I can't imagine that was painted using Humbrol paints! I wonder if that was brown too or if lighting the full-size vehicle affected it differently so it was a different base colour?
