Incentives for early electric vehicle adoption extended until end-2025

Singapore has extended by two years an incentive to encourage more people to convert to cleaner energy vehicles sooner. The scheme will now end in December 2025. The Land Transport Authority and National Environment Agency say electric vehicle adoption has hit a momentum that they want to sustain. There will however be less rebates. Next year, it will be capped at S$15,000 or S$5,000 less.

The COE system is simply flawed. With a small amount of COEs available, motorcycle dealerships can bid up all the COEs and control the pricing. The fact that they do not need to pay the full COE amount and just a small amount for Temporary COE (tCOE) makes it really broken for years. Robin Low

The rebates for switching to ev is not enough and not attractive at all. Public chargers are 60 to 70 cents per kwh. Cost of owning an ev in sg now is much higher than ICE thanks to higher insurance, roadtax and expensive electricity

Hazel Poa suggested a point-based system that considers factors such as nationality and needs-based criteria for families with young children or persons with disabilities, instead of relying solely on the bidding price. “And secondly, would the Minister consider, in the same way as we have the additional buyer stem duty for the purchase of second or higher residential property? Would the Minister consider additional levy on additional vehicle purchase?”

@PAPpeopledumb Yes I agree with your point of view. Parents with elderly and has young children which are THE FUTURE of Singapore should have some incentives and priorities when it comes to family car ownerships. 👍🏻

Lol. With rising COE squeezing out the middle class. The cost difference of fuel cost and high electric cost is gonna translated to cost saving in long run esp if one get a fuel eff hydrid. And ICE if well maintained can lasted beyond 10yr of COE. Typical EV batt warranty is avg at 8years.

What does it matter ~ the incentives are offset in the pricing mechanism of EVs = still selling at premium prices above ICE. Basically, Gov discount more - car dealers then markup their selling price more; relative to ICE cars. They are still the same car dealers. If only the SG Gov mandates that EVs are to be sold by manufacturers branding and compete to chip away those ICE cars. Otherwise, it is LPPL.

How come no MP talk about the Super high COE price? Does those PHV companys want to buy out all the COE so the middle class force to rent those super high expensive mark up rent car based on mark up prices????? those middle class got to send children to school. Send old folk to hospital for check up and still need to report to work at a 8 to 5 timing. please pity those in the mid 40s and early 50s.

Electric Vehicles are Good for Public Transportations but it’ll never be as ROBUST as HYBRIDS Vehicles which provides the Best of both worlds for private owner usage!
