I’ve never heard of the “filmmaking” comparison before, but it certainly makes sense now that I think about it. I really don’t think Nolan gets enough credit for his writing/directing. I mean he does, but not in the way I think of. A lot of his movies are PG-13, but that’s never a roadblock for audiences, because the stories are so damn mature, crazy and interesting. I don’t have a problem with excessive sex, violence or cursing in movies. I just really appreciate when a director knows how to get creative with a restriction. And of course directors like Spielberg have been doing this their whole career. It just shows what a classy director he is, and I hope more directors aren’t afraid of the same path.

Also, Inception is a pleasing word to say to boot!

So it sounds like what you're saying at 0:12 is that the idea that 'Inception' is a metaphor for filmmaking has been around basically since the movies inception?

Great analysis!!! What's funny is how the person who cares the most about Fischer is Sato, but he doesn't know him or know to to get to him (like a studio to their audience). Cobb only cares about Fischer in abstract terms, but death of the author is merely hypothetical because his crew is trying to incept a ver specific message. If such message gets distorted or interpreted differently, that's another thing (like when you interpret a dream without really knowing what it means, you can only FEEL what it means despite a very obvious true meaning locked inside your subconscious). Thanx!!!

Yeah that's why Cillian Murphy chose that character to play. Nolan basically handed him the script when he was casting and told him he wanted Cillian Murphy in it n that he could pick any character he wanted (except for Cobb of course).

this was quite a fresh perspective for the film to me, probably because it's not the hot topic anymore when i watched this more than a decade later, and i've gained a new appreciation for the character of Fischer this video is super underrated

Nolan has stated that the reason he puts girlfriends/ wives in danger or straight up kills them in his films is because it’s one of the worst things he can imagine happening to him.

"DON'T READ INTO THIS!" LMFAO 🤣 It's kinda ironic given how much your profound introspective is already encouraging me to read more into films than I did at an even earlier age. Where were essays like THIS when I was taking film courses during my very early young adulthood!!??

I think about "is it still art without an audience?" but can you even make art without an audience? I argue you are the audience for the creation of the art. I also would argue that you are not alone even when you are creating solo. There is 1 you watching the art be made, and another you devoted to how the art is being made. I think it starts to get interesting when you attempt to force 1 of them out for a time. I don't think you can 100% but look at a Jackson Pollock painting. I contend it is by pushing out the 1 concerned with the HOW that he allowed us to see in his painting what he saw while it was being created. Thru the eyes of audience in his mind. -- It is also my constant goal to be baked 24/7 so apologies if this reads like nonsense.

I just want to stop by and say that I think Nolan did it again with Oppenheimer. The Bomb is the film, Oppenheimer is the director, Groves is the producer, and Lewis Strauss is the critic, except where Inception is a success, the A-Bomb is, well a bomb, and sub-textually this is what leads to Oppenheimer’s being hated by the Audience, and more importantly, his studio, the US Government… or something like that.
