I learned the system ju played from petrosian, and it served me well. He called it the coiled spring approach. White is conservative but the set up contains much potential and poison. I found it quite hard to lose with this system and u don’t have to learn a ton of theory, plus you can play it against practically anything. During the season I played it my grade improved from about 140 bcf to 165 bcf ( I am old). What I like about her variation is na3 which, as u say, gives white more options. I did get a lot of draws, but overall I was +5 for the season. Not perhaps as much fun as my usual Vienna, but more solid

@@vishaltripathy3620 Whether Tigran L Petrosian or Tigran V Petrosian they are both cheaters. They cheated Wesley So's uncle and Bobby Fischer's nephew. Tigran V Petrosian is as much of a world champion in 1963 as Magnus Carlsen was in 2016, 2018 or 2021, or Liren Ding was in 2023 or Hikaru Nakamura was in 2022. The true world champions in modern times are Wesley So, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Sergey Karjakin & Fabiano Caruana.

I got to watch the last four hours of day 1. I saw during this game the writing scroll on the screen mention that many players may not want to play Ju Wenjun because if they lost, their ratings would take a drastic plunge. I am sure Giri knew this in advance and could not afford a draw.

May I add som instructive info based on the introductory photo of which Agadmator talked. Both players have two hands each. They are faced towards the board, and it may be because organizer put the board between them, or they decided it simoultaneusly withot prior preparation. They both look away from each other as they are watching a boring dispute between two pensionists in the park.

Honestly, it would be much better for women too. One of the reasons why men play better is higher competition, which raises the level. If a man wants to make a living in chess, he must achieve a rating of 2700, while for a woman a rating of 2500 is quite sufficient. Moreover, talented female juniors will always be left behind if they play with 2500 GMs while their male peers play with 2700 GMs.
