With some smart updates like ‪@HolleyPerformance‬ fuel injection from a pair of Sniper four-barrel throttle bodies, Automotive Specialists (www.AutomotiveSpecialists.com) was able to bump up the power on this incredible Ford Y-block from the stock 275 to just over 400 while still burning pump gas! #shorts

My Dad bought his first new car in '57. A Custom 500 with a 292 Y-block & 3 on the tree. There I was, riding shotgun in my old school car seat. The kind that had the built in little steering wheel & horn. Used to go to a drive in called The Pow Wow in Hammond Indiana. Arctic white with poverty caps & black wall tires. Can still remember it like it was yesterday...

Had one in a pickup with the exhaust pipe crossover in front of engine. I put a block off plate on the end of the one manifold and installed a u shape pipe on the other side to get it run under the engine. I put full duel exhaust on it with no mufflers. It had the most beautiful cackle I have ever heard from a exhaust.

I've never wanted to own a car with the original Y-block but this is as cool as engine tech gets. Big respect to everyone that made that happen! These engines are wild visually- looks like a Buick 350 with SBC heads and an early Pontiac intake manifold! The Accessory drive is SLICK too! The engine exhaust note is sweeeeeet.

Wish these were more accurate. I'm not sure how they can say that "originally with dual quads these engines made 275hp", - the 292 never made 275 horsepower and the 292 never came with dual quads either. Dual quads were an optional version of the 292s big brother, the 312 - That engine made 275hp in dual quad trim. The Big Dog 312 Y-Block was the dual quad's engine's next step - the McCullough supercharged version that made 300hp.

@TheHorsepowerMonster
@TheHorsepowerMonster Жыл бұрын
You have a point, but I'm not exactly sure it works in this case. Carbs can make more power than port fuel injection because the carb introduces atomized fuel higher in the airstream (above the intake manifold vs. in the intake port for the EFI) which allows the fuel to cool the intake manifold which also means a cooler air/fuel charge. But the Holley Sniper throttle bodies introduce atomized fuel at the same location, so I'm not sure a carburetor will make more peak power in this particular case. Regardless, thanks for watching!
