Trout are actually really sensitive and it doesn't take much to accidentally kill them. We have a lot of trout in Wyoming and if you fight them on the line to long they can die because they fight so hard that they get to tired and die plus you always want your hands to be wet because they have a slim on them.

For the love of fish STOP saying brook trout are “super hardy”!!! They’re charr/trout, and they are giant wimps compared to pretty much every other fish. A wild trout should be treated with respect, and in particular a native fish that had never ever been stocked over with pure genetics going back 1ks of years. I know you’re trying to treat the fish with respect, and you can tell you are trying to handle them properly. I get your excited (anyone would be), and I really think you did a great job considering everything with the fish. Just stop saying that brook trout are really tough. Compare them to any warm water fish and they’re giant sissies.... That being said great fish, great video! I’m jealous. That lake is a gem, I’m glad you’re not trying to name your spots or showing any really obvious land marks. These native trout in Maine are the last ones left in good numbers in the US. They cannot handle extra attention. You should do a video on invasive species, and the dangers of introducing new species into the pristine (ish) eco systems. Sorry for the rant, I’m pumped you’re in ME now. I’m in NH, and am really looking forward to you doing some exploring more up there. And I would 10000% get that mounted. Look up Carlson’s taxidermy, and do a custom molded mount with display. Their work is amazing!!
@codkue51424 жыл бұрын
He did a good job, maybe a rubber net would have been better. Guys like you guys smh
@zwiggles69084 жыл бұрын
Cod Kue I did not say he did a bad job. I cautioned he may be giving the wrong impression to viewers that a brook trout is somehow similar to a bass/ warm water fish which they are not in terms of their hardiness. Considering his excitement he did well. Just don’t give people the impression that you can treat a charr the same way you can handle a bass and expect them both to live. I mean he fed one to an eagle. Totally fine with that, it was a legal catch. But if you’re going to release them try to give them the best chance to be swimming a week from when you release them.
@vinnycaruso11664 жыл бұрын
That’s actually not true imo. Being mainly a brook trout angler myself, on countless occasions, I have accidentally dropped them in sand, on rocks, and they never die. I also handle them all the time without wetting my hand and they are completely fine when I release them.

Those are about average to good for the south. Brook is the only native stream trout in southern Appalachia. Like here in Tennessee our record is 5 pounds or so, but it’s not uncommon to here guys catch 2 and 3 pounders regularly. Now if ya wanna talk browns.. we got the juice lol. 40 pound record, not uncommon to see people bring in 15-20 pounders in some of our mountain rivers.
