I'm always shocked and saddened by how anyone could let such a beautiful house fall to ruins. Just looking at it inside and out you can see it was a fine manor house for a well-off family when it was built. The number of people who have lived in it over the decades, oh the stories those walls could tell if walls could talk. The families, the children born there, those who lived and died there. All frozen in time and forever connected by the walls and roof of that old magnificent house. And now they're all turning to dust and fading away. It's times like this I wish I were wealthy so I could buy and restore them to their former glory. I'd live in that house if I could afford to fix it up the way it used to be.

The maintenance costs must have been expensive along with the property taxes. If you lose that income….the house usually goes too. Looks like they may have been running some kind of business in there….I noticed some computer monitors and a large printer on a table on the first floor. When the money runs out….everything goes straight to hell. It takes lots of money to keep these big , old homes in good condition. They’re constant maintenance a/k/a the money pits. You keep pouring money into the home to keep it up and running. A big house like that will always have something that needs to be repaired , updated and/or renovated. Just think what a new roof on a house like that would cost. There’s the chimney upkeep also…..they gotta be cleaned out and that costs. Someone has to get up there and clean out those gutters….that costs, especially with all the trees around there. Someone has to clean that place and that’s a lot to clean….the floors, the tile, all those windows, etc… rich people aren’t going to do all that them self. They hire people to clean and that costs a lot. I can see how a family could go bankrupt Trying to pay for and maintain a home like that.

@@penelopelopez8296 the neighborhood went down the hill, as is now in da' hood, bad neighborhood, high crime area is my guess and fixing that seems to be impossible, in 50 years might become trendy for urban pioneers.

Believe or not a lot of times it comes down to someone passing away with little or no living relatives, or passing without a will or in a few cases I know of the estate gets wrapped up in probate for years due to family disputes. It doesn't take too long for an uninhabited structure to decay, especially if all utilities are turned off.

That porch must have been a popular place on a steamy, North Carolina summer night! Plenty of stories being told, a lot laughter, memories being etched in kids minds, cold glasses of lemonade, and shy first kisses too! Love the porch . Oh my gosh that staircase is so lovely. Wow to live in a place like this would be fantastic. The fire places are gorgeous and the paint colors are not what I would have expected. Thank you for showing this one. It is very pretty. I do wonder though if you could find the owner and buy the trim and fireplace mantles and a few other things like the stair case and a few things I missed. lean on God

Such a waste! What a beautiful older home with some southern charm. I cannot believe people leave that much stuff behind. Thanks for the share I enjoyed it! I am NW Missouri.

Another beautiful house!! Does anyone pay the taxes on these places? I would have thought that the county government would auction these abandoned properties off in order to get some revenue out of them. Can some of these properties be bought?

they do in ga. that's how we get our houses. by back taxes. we buy them and fix them. can't tell you how many roofs we done over the years or total electric inside and out plus redoing the plumbing besides all the lipstick and Rouge. we also have seen are fair share of fixing floor joists and floors too.

All the items just left behind! You can tell that love was shared and enjoyed there...What happened to the family? A beautiful home left to die alone, sad!

This was a really great find. A family who loved their cats for sure. The curved entryway was stunning. Do you think stained glass was original?

This old house has had many changes. But I was super happy to see that huge central hall and staircase. I’m the front room to the left the tile around the fireplace was hard to see but looked like it might have been deco? Thanks for the tour. Hopefully by next week you’ll hit that 100k! Stay safe!

I noticed that too! If you pause it you can kind of get a better look but I definitely should’ve focused in on it more! Was a neat design! Thanks for watching! And hopefully! :)

more like Morris style / Arts & Crafts bespoke fireplace surround and upper cabinet. Amazing. That gorgeous stained glass with the acid green was gorgeous, more of an art nouveau motif. Those periods ran into each other and overlapped. Clearly though, the occupant's heyday of design were the 70's. The modern sofas were ghastly. Someone died and house may have gone into Probate, may have been delinquent in years and years of back taxes and the heirs didn't want to or couldn't afford it. I wish an architectural salvage crew would rescue features worth saving. Thanks so much for the tour and your thoughtful musings!!

What a beautifull house. It must have been a lovely house to live in it's day. The nicely carved mantelpiece, and stained glass. Also the stairs are carved very nicey. The house seemed to be trashed. What a pity to let this beautifull house to ruin, when it could have been sold, or rented. Love these old houses because they have character, feelings, emotions of the past.💗💗💗💗

Love this house. Looks like they had at least a couple cats.
