In this exclusive clip from this Sunday's Blue Planet II episode, we see Clownfish working together to move a coconut shell, which they will use to lay eggs on. This behaviour has never been filmed before.

Wow. Epic camerawork and amazing little creatures. The original Blue Planet showed how we'd underestimated fish and other marine creatures, but this one really hikes up the respect. As ever, the Beeb shows how to do it and Sir David is *the* best narrator.

What an amazing animal! Until today I never dreamed that the clownfish would work in large teams to reproduce in the way that they do and it's just so interesting to learn new things. And while I'm on the subject, I have to add that David Attenborough is a truly amazing presenter. I highly doubt we will EVER see a narrator as good as him, or a documentary as well made as ANYTHING he lends his name and his expertise to, or at least not in our lifetimes. The fish swam to shore, crawled along the beach, climbed up a tree, grabbed a coconut, broke it in half and carried it back into the sea.

the shell had seaweed on it, so pretty sure it was in the water for some time, lots of coconuts and lots of water in the tropics! crabs, octopus and other sea creatures have innovative ways of using coconut shells, google octopus and coconut shell, for some entertaining footage :)

we judge there intelligence on our ability of understanding them. you cant study a fish and expect it to feel pain like a human. our anatomy is totally different. we can conduct these study's on land mammals because they are all alot like us and there anatomy is very similar to our own. a fish on the other hand has a totally different evolutionary line, of course they are aware of what they are doing and of course they can feel things around them. whether or not they perceive it the same as humans and other land animals is not the argument Norwegian woods is making. he is just saying they feel something and this is pretty obvious. have a fish in a bowl at home? if you poke him with a needle he will jump and swim away from the needle of course they feel things happening to them, they arent feelingless like you are implying, they have feelings just like everything and they go about there lives depending on these feelings and sensors just like we do and everything else does. just because it isent the same as ours dosent mean they dont feel.

"Nociception is the detection of a noxious tissue-damaging stimulus" That is not the same thing as pain let alone pain conception or reception, it's merely the detection of toxins, which can be traced down to microorganisms as well. You're the classic example of someone twisting and interpreting information in order to suit preconceived conclusions. Edit: You're also misrepresenting the purpose of the abstract, which is about research done to study the evolution of the nervous system from it's most primitive forms, not whether fish can or can't feel pain.
