Nature will ALWAYS win! We may be able to shoot an asteroid and push it so it doesn't crash on Earth, but the weather is Nature's business, and you don't mess with Mother Nature! Earth is a very active Planet, and that will never change for perhaps anther billion years! We can't stop global warming nor volcanoes erupting, so we'd better take good care of our Earth and stop polluting it! Earth probably has another half billion years to go, possibly a bit more, and then our star, the sun, will use some of the gases of Earth like hydrogen, and as Earth moves every closer to the sun, it may get so close that it will explode! But you and I won't have to worry about that, we''ll be long gone before that occurs! OR, we could nuke each other out of existence in the next few decades, unless Earth's humans learn to get along better with each other and stop waring over control of people and land! Humans don't seem to retain what they learn over the centuries about warring! So we'll have to wait and see.

The airport in St. Maarten is NOT one of the "most dangerous in the world" -- not even close. It often makes arbitrary "Top 10" lists of most dangerous airports due to its unusual location adjacent to a public beach. Several injuries and one fatality have occurred due to beach-goers trying to get blown into the water by the jet blasts of departing jets. But that's not related to the airport itself. In fact, not a single fatality has ever been recorded in an actual accident at the airport -- and there's only been one of those. Three fatal crashes have occurred after takeoff or on final approach, but those were due to pilot error and fuel starvation and, again, had nothing to do with the airport itself, its runways, surrounding terrain or overall location. With the global warming trend that Earth is in currently, and may be in for some time, normal moisture that is in the dirt that hills and mountains are usually made from, can dry out, dirt loosens, and gravity pulls it down so that landslides are happening more now. Earth is a very active planet and the tectonic plates far down in the Earth do move and shift at times, which causes earthquakes and tremors that shake mountains and cause loose dirt to fall. Movement can also cause an avalanche on snowy mountains.

We have been in a global warming trend for over two decades now, the ground is hard and cannot absorb water well, which is why we've seen floods in some areas. In other areas, lack of moisture in the soil has caused an area to dry out to the extent that landslides have been happening on some mountains and hilly areas, without moisture to hold the soil together, so it crumbles under strong winds and earthquakes. We are also seeing more glaciers calve as they gradually melt. Look for a rise in the water in coastal zones in the future, enough to cause the ocean to slop over land in many coastal areas, especially under windy conditions!

@Ben Jones Glaciers were not melting in 1970! We have been in a draught for over two decades now, and permafrost that has never melted since the ice age is now giving way to warmer temperatures. This time a global rise in water may be true, with over ten inches of water on land where it has not been before, but islands appear and disappear over centuries anyway, it's not new! But sadly, it is releasing some acids into the ocean, which could be detrimental to some marine life. And mountaineers are dying because they underestimate what global warming is doing to the snowpack up high, so we'll see more deaths from landslides, rockslides, avalanches, etc. not to speak of what dormant volcanoes could do, like the Cascade Range of mountains in NW America.
