People burying time capsules for release thousands of years in the future are far more optimistic about humanity's chances of survival than I am.

I buried a time capsule when I was a kid back in 85 on my dad's land. I wasn't supposed to dig it up until 2000 it has a couple of rare matchbox cars a Jose Canseco rookie card and some other things I don't remember. I tried to find it in 2000 but couldn't. every now and then I get a wild hair and go out with the shovel and try to dig it up.

if you buried it in a metal container even a cheap metal detector should find it if you didn't bury it too deep. If it's in a metal box set the detector for "all metals mode" and it should give off a huge signal. Hopefully you have a rough idea of where you buried it to narrow down the search.

My sister and I buried a time capsule (small glass jar with note) around the time I was in kindergarten and she was in 5th grade. We forgot about it, but my Mom dug it up while planting. Embarrassingly, she had written about me sitting next to "Michelle" on the bus, whom I had had a crush on. Interesting find.

From now on people should put pictures of them using the items in the capsules. That way the future doesn't need to guess, learn an "ancient" language (possibly), or even be from the same country or planet to know what to do with the items. I mean seriously. It's so easy now and it could help prevent so much misunderstanding.

This is one of the most awesome videos I've ever watched. I think time capsules are ingenious. I worry about the capsule that will be opened in 5,000 years though. There is speculation that we will have fewer languages then and one of them might not be English. I was impressed by the capsule that foresaw we would not know how to operate their outdated machine and so they included instructions. How thoughtful!! As for what would I put in a time capsule that was not going to be opened for 1000 years or more.. a sewing machine, a wedding dress, man's suit, a catalog of modern cars (especially for a 5,000 year capsule), energy efficient light bulb, tools from a dentist office.. (I know you said three, but the list keeps growing! I can't help it. The thing about including things that use electricity like a sewing machine or a radio is that the whole electrical system might look different then. I guess that's what it's all about. 😘

I have a running time capsule, it's a waterproof box at my parents house that I have been adding to since 2005. There's a lot of things that I wish I had added that never ended up in there but each year I make sure to put something of significance in there I'll try list them off for you guys, keep in mind I was born in 1998 2005, a Polly pocket, a purple bandana and an invisible ink pen 2006, A baby Yasmin Bratz doll and jelly bracelets 2007, A v3 tamagochi and a broken secret journal 2008, a mix of littlest pet shops along with my favorite pair of hip hugging jeans from years earlier 2009, A denim skirt along with a zhu zhu pet added years later and a pair of earrings 2010, News papers from the Christchurch earthquake, and ballet flat shoes 2011, News papers from the second Christchurch earthquake this time it actually killed, some rugby world cup stuff 2012, An Elton John poster bc I love him, and nail art supplies 2013, Manic panic hair dye bc I'm 15 and edgy. A pair of pastel blue skinny jeans with a button fly 2014, A pair of high waist super short shorts along with a pair of hip hugger short shorts from many years earlier 2015, A broken iPhone 5s (it was water damaged so athletically its perfect), and a shot glass in the name of Kylie lip challenge 2016, A roll of rose gold foil, along with a list of all the shit stuff that happened, and ofc a Kylie lip kit 2017, A defaced fidget spinner bc I hate them, and an outfit that symbolises my teen years 2018? Probably wide leg jeans since lets admit we have moved on from skinny jeans ok

In California my house had a space in the ceiling for an evaporative cooler. I installed central air so before sealing up the space I turned it into a time capsule. I sold the house 5 years ago.

As a kid I would write letters in code and hide them inside the bathroom and kitchen cabinets and counter. For someone to find when remodeling. They probably were never deciphered. They were in pretty unusual cryptic esoteric designed envelopes.

Great-Grandpa Harris did demolitions of buildings and silos and in 1911 they found a family time capsule. He was tearing down a farm house that had burned and in the foundation of field stone they found the capsule dated May 18, 1805. Since the ancestors were living in the house that burned he turned over to them. He never did find out what was in it but as it's been told he was happy the family got it.

I have written a letter from 2018, and I have to wait till I’m older when I’m turning 21. To see all my 15 year old memories. I wrote many things, movies that I loved, a band that I love, KZbin videos that I love, youtubers that I love, and many more. And there is also an encouragement for the future me below. I think in the future while reading that letter, I’m going to cry so much.

July 2018. I'm 70 now. When I was in high school I was told by friends a method of making Peach Brandy by stuffing whole peaches into a mason jar and sealing the lid. I was told that because of the expansion of the product inside the jar would break unless pack tightly in the ground and left for 30 days. I packed a number of these jars and after 30 days went back to dig them up in my backyard. I found all but one which must still be there. That brandy must be pretty potent by now.

Nib-Na5ty Well, you can put sad writings, studies on depression and suicide, Antidepressants, alchohol, and maybe a few famous suicide notes, so, in a way, you could put depression in a box and bury it! If anything, it would show future scholars that not everything was rosy in the past, and that depression was an all-too-real problem at the time!

Found once a Time capsule by a mechanic from 1932 in the concrete slab of a garage we were cutting out to install a new lift. It had a old single barrel carburetor an a note that said. "I hope things get better then this signed Jacob Grey" or something to that effect. We think by the fact the adjustment screws were stripped he had some issues dealing with the carburetor. So we took a few parts from a mechanical fuel ejection system from a 89 Mercedes Benz an added our own note that read "Nope, sorry about that, 2003" put it all back in the box an buried it under the slab next to the left but wrote in the concrete time capsule here. Well close to anyway cause I misspelled capsule

Well, the 1983 Capsule was a giant PVC pipe, and it was well preserved. Granted, it was only 30 years hence, but even metal boxes tend to rust in that time, that capsule was undamaged, and the contents were well preserved.
