Now that is for sure!! 6 miles out and back to get up there and back to the car. Amazing how the Ice Age carved out the mountains all over the world. Hi Patti! That was a fear of mine being able to find my way out. If you notice in the video, you may see some faint arrows, someone with chalk has drawn on the rocks. Even back in 08 the bottom platform (level)had been removed, but we climbed the frame to the intact level and went up the stairs from there. Those country back roads were narrow, especially around the turns. There were no guard rails and the asphalt was just crumbling off the sides. Metro did a great job of basically coming to a stop. You just don't find slot canyons in the east, they are all out west. So what a real treat. ~RVA~

Would the top of the channels be good for sunrise? Also, there’s another way to get to it and it’s about 10 miles out and back. Not sure if you know if that trail is overgrown since it may not be heavily trafficked since the new trail.
@RVAHikerGirl Жыл бұрын
There are 2 views, not sure which direction they face. One looks out next to the fire tower and the other one is the opposite direction. I am sure you could get an excellent sunrise or sunset from up there. But there is no camping anywhere around that area. Its a fragile ecosystem. There are some privately owned cabins that you can rent that you pass on the 6.3 mile hike up. I show in the video where I park. I don't know about a 10 mile route to get there. I did not see another place where the trail split off to come is from any other direction. Its on All Trails the route that I took. The trail will never be overgrown as its a popular trail and very wide until you get passed the fire tower. Not sure if that helped or not. ~RVA~

The trees, rocks in the woods, and the rocky outcropping are all covered with graffiti. It's bad there because you can drive to that location. From what I understand is as soon as they spend all the time and effort to clean it up, they just go back and do it again. It's sad.
