No need to apologize for Wheein appreciation!! It's generally accepted that she has the best technique in mmm and is underappreciated by most reactors (sadly)
@smurfmarshmallow3 жыл бұрын
I think reactors overlooked Wheein because her technique is so good, she made those high notes and runs seem effortless and easy. It takes vocal experts - like Sir Austin here - to understand, highlight, and give appreciation to our Wheein of what a great vocalist she is!
@xheralt3 жыл бұрын
Also, admitting when your bias is getting wrecked -- as happens with distressing frequency with Mamamoo -- is not looked down on my MooMoos, unlike other fandoms.
@teambellavsteamalice3 жыл бұрын
@@smurfmarshmallow Indeed, making it seem so easy 😉 indeed! Floor Jansen (Nightwish) often has this too, the easiest looking parts are often extremely technical. I think that the purposeful "mistakes", Solar belting with a bit too much power, Hwasa singing this way, makes them sound more colorful and makes it more live and maybe seem more impressive. Wheein just ate CD's and effortlessly matches either of them a little power, a little warmth, but almost purposely held back to make them shine even more. At the same time she carries the harmonies and is drowned out by them. So much fun to see a vocal coach point this out!

As someone who watched these ladies from pre-debut, can I say I appreciate you appreciating Wheein. She used to say how she was the least popular because everyone notices the other girls first (based on the things you mentioned, rap, belt, charisma, etc). But a staff (maybe a producer, I forget from what) had mentioned that she's the foundation and probably the most versatile in the group when it comes to her voice. It's just good to see people notice how the group comes together as a whole and each of their contributions

I think wheein is one of the most popular in Korea. Definitely all her songs rank high on melon their main music chart which shows the general public and not just the fandom appreciate her vocals. She was also the first to receive a music show award for her collab in "Anymore". None of the others until Hwasa recently with Jujima had received awards for their collab songs. Although Moonbyul rarely gets collab songs (only 3 in total) Hwasa, Wheein and Solar have a lot of them.

Wheein is the most versatile member in Mamamoo for sure, she can do it all vocally and she is a more rounded dancer than Moonbyul really, also she is in charge of harmonies in the group so she is the foundation of their sound.

From what I remember this was from 2015 just a year from their debut - they came in pretty much as unknowns and this is pretty much how they built up their reputation by being that girl group that could actually sing. just by going through the immortal song videos you can also see Solar's technique improve - from what I remember early on she put too much strain on her voice when she belts.. Definitely check out the rest of the series. it's a bit of a black hole.

Considering they were still rookies during this time but their vocals is through the roof already. I agree, Wheein is usually overlooked by newer fans but she's beloved by the fandom in general which shows whenever they have this fun game/competition and would ask the fans to pick the winner, moos would always pick her regardless of their bias. Everyone is a softie when it comes to our Wheepup but yeah, doesn't shake the fact that she's the most underappreciated member and the sad thing is, she's aware of it.

prodigger3000 Wheein’s solos have the least amount of views (esp Goodbye like fr it was released over a year ago and doesn’t even have 4mil views), she has the least amount of followers of the members that have instagram, on kpop voting apps she’s usually the one with the least amount of fans/favorited 🤷🏻♀️ Since gogobebe i feel like she’s definitely gotten more attention, and at MAMA last year she trended as ”the girl with blue hair” on twt. But in general like in reactions and stuff people tend to not see her for some reason.
@autumneagle3 жыл бұрын
WheePup is my bias but yeah, she definitely gets looked at "last" by people who get into Mamamoo. I guess the others are just flashier? IDK because I feel they're all equally amazing. I think it might be because WheeIn has a "girl next door" vibe to her, she doesn't come off as a bad-ass or diva or sultry goddess. But that's the type of vibe I really like the best.
@rn66103 жыл бұрын
IMO Wheein hasn't been undepreciated for years now though 😅 In fact Id say she is one of the more popular girls, at least for reactors.... PPl only think she is overlooked b/c wheein fans keep telling new moomoo's that she is.

I appreciate the wheein appreciation. I'm glad wheepup gets more love. She's actually very famous in the fandom. The saying "once you wheein you can't whee-out" is very true. I've watched their Immortal songs performances in chronological order and you'll definitely see them improve in terms of technique (they already sound amazing from the start tho). I noticed hwasa experimenting a lot with her voice before but she always starts the performance with such emotions. Solar is assigned the high parts of the song and maybe because she has the most powerful voice, she was given a lot of high belts. Try to listen to her solo work Solar gamsung, a collection of cover songs that means a lot to her to hear another side to her vocals. I personally love this project, it's similar to IU's flower bookmark albums which i also adore. I remember a veteran singer said in one of the IS2 episodes that not one member in mamamoo is inessential in their performances. Byul may have gotten fewer lines before but as you watch all their performances, they give the spotlight to byul when it's her turn. Either they huddle to one microphone singing back up or step back and dance behind her. And the fact that they managed to include rap parts to trots and ballads is simply amazing plus byul even writes her own raps. Yes there are better singers than them individually but as a group, for me, they're on top. I haven't heard harmonies that tight since I dunno, en vogue? And most of the time if you put singers of this caliber together, they often try to outsing each other but these four just blends well together despite having different tones, colors, textures and styles to their voices
@kalaksed3 жыл бұрын
another girl group rapper also said it's hard to mimic byul's rap style because she frequently gets used as narration, a way to help control the emotion of the song. and that's doubly true for the immortal song performances

I think its really underestimated how important Wheein is in making Mamamoo work as a vocal group. I think part of the reason Mamamoo is allowed to have such outstanding and differentiated color is because Wheein is there to support them. I'm sure Hwasa and Solar could work as a vocal duo, but its pretty clear that Wheein allows them to have the freedom they get to enjoy in the group. To your point about technique, particularly with Solar, I believe when they were a younger group Solar and Hwasa's voices could definitely have been at risk of being damaged. There were times where they would perform 3 live shows in a day and this type of grueling pace would be kept up for the months (college festival season). I recall hearing that Wheein would actually pick up some of Hwasa's parts when her voice wasn't in good condition and I think it she also occasionally covered for Solar. I'm glad they've been so successful and aren't necessarily in a position where they HAVE to put their vocal chords at so much risk anymore not only because it'd be such a shame to lose such beautiful voices but such positive voices for particularly the lgbt community in Korea.

oh, glad the appeal worked and doubly glad to see this reaction up i want to say that 'is2' has been explained before but honestly can't recall (i know someone did a little bit in the comments here already). the show is a musical competition where 6-7 artists of various genres perform 'immortal' songs, those that tend to have a special meaning to them, particularly to south koreans. there's always a theme for each episode, usually a specific singer or songwriter or composer, mostly korean but sometimes not (they've had michael jackson and michael bolton episodes, for example). frequently, if the artist/songwriter is still alive, they'll be sitting at a raised table in the audience (the old guy that frequently looked dead in this video was the 'original' artist here. he redid tom jones's song in korean, with the girls kind of taking it back to its original roots here). sometimes there are episodes dedicated to other themes, though, like spring or rain or such, then the artists will pick from a list of songs that match that theme the performers come from all kinds of musical backgrounds, the only requirement is that they can actually sing (there's been one exception that i'm aware of and it didn't go over well at all). you'll see traditional korean singers vs balladeers vs trot singers (another wholly korean musical style, originally founded upon foxtrot) vs musical theatre actors/actresses vs r&b artists and more. frequently, these artists will have 10-20 years of experience singing. a really tough competition, though everyone has a lot of fun together in the green room between performances. kpop groups don't get invited all that often, and usually those that do get invited tend to only be once or twice. mamamoo has been on the show 14 times over the past five years, with only two performances from 2018 to now (because they've been so busy with the 4 season project in 2018, everything they did in 2019 and 2020's been all about their solo activities until next month). there are kpop artists that get invited pretty frequently but they're solo artists like ailee or ben (female artist despite the name), and there are members of groups that get invited individually. whole grups, though, not so much. when mamamoo was first invited it was about 6 months after their debut and even then they intimidated the other artists on that episode, particularly two senior artists, a legendary rock musician and a legendary trot singer (the rock singer even had at least one episode of the show about him and his music, so a literal living legend). these two constantly talked the girls up and neither one wanted to perform either right before or right after the girls. exceptionally high praise, in a way they wound up making a name for themselves on and through the show, being able to show sides they couldn't through the typical kpop channels. this helped skyrocket their popularity with the general public, where people tended to try to differentiate between 'idol' and 'artist'. and their second appearance on the show was a month after the first one, so they were basically invited back as they were leaving from their first appearance... that is also huge praise. and they're the only kpop group that's competed in a 'king of kings' episode, which happen near the end of each year, a competition between artists that had won previous episodes over the course of that season 'immortal songs 2' is actually how i was introduced to mamamoo, alongside a whole slew of other amazing singers such as ailee and ben mentioned before, bora and ali, song sohee and moon myungjin and so many more... and from there, mamamoo is what got me into kpop, though they've also made it hard to enjoy a lot of kpop on more than a cursory level, if that makes sense i know many others are suggesting that you check out all 14 of their performances, esp in chronological order so you can see and hear the growth and while i wholeheartedly support that, i both want to warn you of the potential for copyright strikes for certain songs and the blocks you're already familiar with and also suggest that you check out full episodes at some point, if you can, to see just what the girls were up against each time (the episodes tend to be about an hour and a half long though some are done as two-parters that get aired over the course of two weeks) also, i like the idea of you checking out the 'making of' episode of mamamoo tv after checking their third immortal songs performance, "passion flower". it shows a bit of them practicing (and messing around) the vocals and harmonies while also dividing the lines, then working on creating the choreography for the song, all over the course of four days before they had to perform it

Now, "Delilah" was originally (as far as I'm aware) a Tom Jones song. It was then covered by a Korean artist - specifically the older gentleman in the black outfit that they kept cutting to. Mamamoo's performance, then, was a cover of his cover of the Tom Jones song. The rap part was written by Moonbyul, herself, but the other Korean lines were a part of the original cover.

Hello Sir Austin :) Wheein's performance to 'Forget me now' is worth checking too. It is by far my most favorite performance from her. She performed it in a duet competition and her duet partner was not one of her members. You can see how versatile she is and how she harmonize with other singers. And her duet partner is an amateur singer but sounds really good as well. Much love from the Philippines ❤️

Here's also a link for your easy reference kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYGofmujrNqbrdU . Since you are also covering dreamcatcher, I am now tempted to check them out. Honestly speaking, I'm actually restraining myself to check out other groups as I don't want to be disappointed since my standard for a group is Mamamoo. But I trust your opinion and taste so I will try to check them out :) Will be waiting for your future videos 😁

ive always appreciate their voices in different way and my favorite have always been wheein's, as for solar i think i love her voice the most in their Romantic Doctor 2 "I miss you" since i rarely hear her do delicate songs
@graceababan3 жыл бұрын
Moomoos usually recommend Delilah since it is a revival of a famous Western song, so English speakers can be more familiar, but they sound more rested in the WONDERFUL CONFESSIONS performance. Hope you can check it out too. That was my first Immortal Songs performance from Mamamoo and that video converted me to being a Moomoo. If you want to hear Mamamoo sounding like angels from heaven with a 4-part harmony, then I suggest the MEETING performance. Since Immortal Song performances are all revival songs, might I suggest if you have a short listen to the original song first and then see Mamamoo's version ;)

Nice reaction! You spoke the truth, Wheein does have the best technique haha No worries! Solar and Hwasa also have their own strengths, so it's fine! I hope you can check out BACKWOODS and WAY TO SAMPO. They are my favorite Immortal Song performances from MMM, and you might see more of Solar and Hwasa's strengths. Also, Hwasa's BE CALM/INTO THE FALL and Solar's NADA SOU SOU/LIKE A FOOL are amazing!

Inmortal songs is like a music show competition and musicans,idols,etc are given an old artist and they have to do a cover. There are judges,so the important thing here is hability. Mamamoo won 2 times a whole episode and were the firts rookie group to win this show. They went famous for inmortal songs and given the name "BeLimo" that means Belive and listen to mamamoo
@lishakeyz59203 жыл бұрын
I love watching your journey with Mamamoo!! You probably already know but Mamamoo were only rookies when they were invited to appear in this program. They've appeared 14 times which is a record, are the only female kpop group to win an entire episode... and they did it 3 times: 1st win: Backwoods 2nd win: Wonderful Confession 3rd win: The dance in rhythm But all their other performances are equally as awesome (ontop of a high quality performance, I really think winning an episode depends on the order of performance which is drawn at random. The last 2 performances have a higher chance of winning from what I've seen lol) Some songs might sound familiar from the the medley you reacted to. I hope you check em all out!!!! I love the ones mentioned, delilah, passionflower, the way to Sampo and meeting. ...Ok maybe all of them Lol

Well they were rookies at that time so they had imperfections but of course like wine they got better and yes Wheein has the best technique and its the support of mamamoo vocals. May I say (not an expert here): Yes I think Hwasa intro its intentional because for what I hear its hard to sustein that smokey low tone for that long of time. Love youre sincere reactions we learn so much from you and be prepare for the CB because it will be a lot of content from the past and present.

Yes; I was about to say this was when they were wee rookies, and your comment is what I was aiming to say so might as well just agree and upvote yours so I don’t have to repeat :) THEY AGE LIKE FINE FINE WINE, VOCALLY, CONCEPT WISE, EVERYTHING

When you see wheein predubt auditions when she was 16 it will blow your mind away because she sang like this in those auditions when she was like 16 or 17 !!! She is just insanely talented no matter how hard you try God gifted Wheein talent !! In queendo she was sick so she didn't practice with them she just went to the rehearsals and learned whole thing in 10 minutes!?????

It was funny to me how people kept under appreciating wheein... she was the first one i noticed in mmm. Her tone does something that tickles my ears and rings in my head. It's like honey, sweet, smooth and clear as a bell while somehow being full and powerful. Whenever her vocals sound I feel at ease and I am amazed by how she sings these high notes so comfortably! 'WooHoo' and 'Girl Crush' were two songs where I think her tone shines.

As far as groups go I’m inclined to agree with you that Mamamoo are at the top, at least among those currently active. There are soloists and individual members (_cough_ Eunji) I’d put above them but it’s crazy that so much vocal talent has been packed into one group.

Oh? I didn't know Tom Jones did country. 😏 Congrats for watching the video to the end - so many reactors miss the last harmony and the moo-us interruptus is excruciating. The original had a latin feel with a cliche horn section quote from a song that escapes me. Mamamoo went a bit classier, so to speak, with the guitarist quoting Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez during the countdown to Moonbyul's first rap verse. I thought it was a great re-arrangement and Moonbyul's new raps upped the energy and shockingly fit right into a song that pre-dates rap, not to mention the radical gender & sexuality switch that turned a hetero revenge song into a lesbian crime of passion. Mamamoo's creativity, raw power and riveting stage presence at their early best - Delilah was only 15 months after their debut. Moonbyul didn't start singing on group songs until Paint Me in Jan 2018 so there's no use whining about not hearing her sing on their early songs. Her development as a singer has been fun to watch and now that she's pretty much a full member of the vocal line it opens up even more weapons in their already overwhelming vocal arsenal.

@@SirAustin Since I'm old I'm very familiar with Delilah and have cringey memories of my best friend's mom grossing us out by being overly hot & bothered by Tom Jones. I was gob smacked by MMM's cover - this is the performance that made me an instant moomoo. Watch one of the live vids of Mr Jones performing Delilah back in the day - it will probably increase your appreciation for what MMM did with it. 😂

There are many talented idols with spectacular vocals, I'm sure you have some recommendations in the comment sections! But, very very few are like Mamamoo, a group where you have all members perform seamlessly together. They each have different vocal colors, but have practiced and gotten to know each other so well that they really aee in harmony (technically and figuratively, they gel together really well!) Delilah is one of my favorite performances from them! As others have said, do check out their other Immortal Songs performances for more live goodness!!!

Btw its TOO NORMAL to wreck your bias 24/7 being moomoo, dun feel sorry tho, be proud😎 cuz mamamoo is that good that each member shines and give us good music🥰

I missed this video notification 😅 But I'm so glad to see someone, amongst vocal coaches, actually critic and not just praise the good points. It makes things more interesting, and I love learning more about that kind of stuff 🥰 I suppose they're just afraid of upsetting the Fandom, but if the critic is done properly (objectively), we won't actually take any offense at all

Back again at your comment section for another appreciation that you're appreciating Wheein. Wheein used to be underrated but I guess nowadays she's been appreciated more (especially because she sings a lot hit OST for KDrama) - but I always about to teared up whenever you mentioned how perfect Wheein's technique is. Most of the reaction video that I saw overlooked Wheein, she's not the flashiest in singing but damn my gurl is definitely stable and one of the best vocalist out there.

One of reason why the fandom really likes to recommend Immortal Song and their YHY Sketchbook performance is because of the zero vocal playback.

As a Wheein stan, seeing you appreciate her is nice. She gets overlooked a lot of times with new reactors cause of Solars powerful belts, Moonbyul's rapping or Hwasa's charisma. Just thought I'd share that I appreciate you.
