I have made many videos on advanced English adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs, collocations, phrasal verbs and other advanced vocabulary... BUT... if you can't remember the words you learn, it's a waste of time studying them, right?
In this video, I share an extremely simple scientifically proven technique that will help you learn the new English words you learn.
➡️ If you're planning on taking a Cambridge English exam, my B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency preparation courses will help you get the results you desire:

I think your tips are VERY practical and useful, if i understood well, we can: * Say new words out loud * write phrases or examples using them * write or make up a short story involving new vocabulary Simple, clear, achievable, fast and fun. THANK YOU !!!

Another good and effective way is to download the video as an audio version and listen to it many times esp when it comes to vocabulary videos. Thanks a lot!

Yes, exactly! You'll especially notice how much this helps when you're studying expressions with their still lesser known pronunciation in a language you may just have started learning from scratch.

Great tips indeed, Ben! Thanks a lot! In fact, I usually do this! Reading out loud is my favourite one! When I come across a new and unknown word, the first thing I try is to deduce or infer the meaning from the context, then ,of course, I look it up. Most of the times I am right though. 😊

When I am reading something and I find a word which I have never seen before I always take note, likewise when I watch some videos on KZbin like yours. As soon as I learn new words and some new idioms, I start using them in conversations with friends. The more I use them the faster I memorize.

Luckily that's exactly what I've been doing for the past two years, though personally I reckon that for speaking practice it's better to listen to songs and then once you more or less memorise the lyrics , sing along, as opposed to reading aloud what you had written.

I'm currently using Memrise for my Chinese vocabulary and find it very helpful. I know not all courses have these features but the Mandarin Chinese one consists of listening, speaking and writing (and I think even grammar). The audio examples are by native speakers and there are even small dialogues with questions at the end. I find it very useful and I'm quite sure there's a similar course for English. I'm thinking a combination of apps like Memrise (or Anki etc) plus the things you've mentioned (putting the vocab in context, writing a short story etc) might be very fruitful. I don't know if you'd like to do a video on that topic but maybe you could talk about apps (especially for C1 and C2 - there are a lot of apps for the lower levels of course) that you think might be useful? And congrats on 100k subs! Very well deserved! 🥳

Very helpful advice, thank you.I always tell my students to learn about 15-20 words with example sentences and study them once a day for 7 days in a row. Then wait for a week and repeat the procedure. Your videos are really good.Congratulations

I always read out load the transcripts of your videos while watching you, because I find your way of speaking so straightforward yet so complex, not to mention that warm and friendly voice and intonation of yours. Yes, there are quite a few KZbinrs teaching English with huge numbers of subscribers, but their approach is somehow cold and distant to me, even though they strive to engage people by doing a lot of silly things. Thanks a million, Ben!

Hello Ben. Wow, thank you so much for this video! I'm the EFL teacher and I have been sharing exactly the same thoughts, (even the same phrase "walk around all day saying words out loud like a crazy person" :D), with my students! I am a non-native living in Ireland and during my studies and later during my work I have done extensive research, found the same material, and have come to the same conclusions. Although I gave several lectures on this subject I have never recorded a concise video, which can be replayed to the students. It has been on my mind for some time though. Now, I can simply send them the link to your video! Thank you for making my life easier. :)

As for me whether you will remember or not depends on your attitude to it . If you don't consider words as important for yourself you will never be able to put them in your brain and it'll just leak out like water In other words the words that you learn must be useable in your own speaking

In your first exercise, I tried to arrange the numbers in 3 groups. Not reading them out loud haha Yes Ben, repeating, asocciating the word with another word or idea with your own connections. I remember I kept the word 'chubby' because of a candy name in my country was called 'chubi' whose shape was much similar to round. The pronounciation was different though. There are words easier to remember such as the family words: e.g narrow (as a verb), stem from( from the origin of a plant). Again making connections is the basis: otherwise there is no deep understanding or remainance of the word in the memory, it takes time and effort.
