You can take a flashlight and put it on these eggs to check them. It you see veins they will hatch if not they might be dead or you can still rotate and reposition them. I hope this helps❤

Hey Luke! Just thought it’d be interesting to share, the reason most eggs (reptiles specifically) should remain in the same position is because the embryo will stick to the top of the egg naturally and begin to form, so if flipped upside down it could be crushed by the weight of the yolks and / or damage some of its veins. Glad you’ve kept em in such good condition man! Can’t wait to see the next update :)

Also, if you being skeptical and not sure if you put the egg the right way just pick up a flashlight and shine it on them to see the embrio, make sure the embrio stay on top so they didn't get suffocated by the egg yolk

If you bury them that deeply in the substrate, make sure to check the buried parts every now and then to make sure they don't mold. If the substrate is packed down, some of the oxygen that would normally diffuse into the egg may not and the air might not circulate around the egg in general, and that can cause pockets where the humidity is way too high and then they mold in those spots. Checking them should help prevent this, and placing them on top of the substrate if they show signs of stress should prevent it from getting worse (and using anti-fungal powders on wild eggs isn't advisable for the health and safety of the wild population)

You should probably still call a wildlife expert for proper help so you can properly follow your state or county laws. Also, snapping turtles are wild animals, and a wildlife expert will help you know how to release them properly when they hatch.

I know you probably did, but make sure you candled the eggs to be positive the embryos are at the top! they aren't always laid like that, so using a flashlight to look for it is best the reason they shouldn't turn [ at least when it comes to snakes, I'm assuming it's same for them ] is because if the embryo is on the bottom it can suffocate

You can candle the eggs by holding a flashlight up to the eggs and if you see veins it is a viable egg. the correct way to keep the egg is with the embryo on top which is a cluster or glob of veins. If left upside down it will die. If you candle and egg and see nothing it is just yolk and doesn't contain an embryo. The eggs can get wet spots and mold, it's something to watch out for and can mean the embryo has died. Good luck!

Also, when they hatch, don’t be scared if a couple of eggs don’t hatch the rest do all it means they don’t have an egg tooth or they didn’t fully develop you need is to get a knife and cut the top of it. If there is blood that doesn’t mean you cut the baby turtle you just hit one of the veins on the shell
