Will Smith did not appear in this film because he wanted to be in Suicide Squad rather than a sequel to a film he already starred in. Also, there was going to be a third film right after this, but it has been cancelled as this second film received sub-par reviews and made no profit.

If you want more comedy with Jeff Goldblum, watch the Wes Anderson movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou from 2004. He plays the antagonist, so not the main character. But it got Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe and some more in it too. Them movie stars just want to be in Wes Anderson's films...

I don't think a lot of people understand how rushed the script had to be. When Will Smith went to do Suicide Squad, the script was aleady written. However due to this, a new script was needed without Will Smith. The new script had be done in 2 WEEKS. If people want to blame anything, blame Will Smith for leaving when a working script was already done. It was his doing that cause the script to be rushed rewritten.

Had to be both. You don't maneuver a ship that large that close to the gravity well of a planet without either continously firing thrusters (which they didn't) or control gravity somehow. It's just one of the many flaws of this film.
@Migman2020
@Migman2020 3 жыл бұрын
@@Yggdrasil42So many people don't understand why the ship landed on earth the way it did.. The whole gravity "weapon" was not a weapon at all.. It was just the mothership using its massive anti grav pads to pull its self towards the planet to slow down due to how fast it approached.. once it spilled enough speed it then turned them off as you saw.. the aliens just dont care about the damage that was caused by landing like that.. the planet was dead anyways as far as they concerned.

@genostellar
@genostellar 3 жыл бұрын
This movie has a ton of problems, but for me the worst part about it is the fact that they wrote in a queen that, if killed, makes all the others die. They literally wrote in a weak spot for the entire problem. Unlike the last film where they had exploited an actual weakness, this one had one written in intentionally to be a weakness because they'd all be dead if they had a queen which they could function without. When we lose our leaders, we have someone else take their place and we keep doing what we're supposed to do. I don't see an alien race being any different, and even if they were, they wouldn't risk putting that weak point in striking distance, regardless of how confident they were. They should have written in something a little more intelligent like they did last time. Second worst offense, having Will Smith's character die in a stupid accident. They could have had him die due to something a little more meaningful than that. Just because an actor is smart enough to stay away from a bad film, that doesn't mean you treat the character badly.

I was a fan of the first movie for 20 years when I saw it as a kid. This sequel was such a let down. They had a whole marketing campaign that gave a timeline of how Earth used the alien technology to revolutionize the worlds of medicine and weapons. There was a ten year ground war in Africa fighting a spaceship full of aliens that survived the crash in 1996. WHERE WERE THOSE MOVIES?! WHY WAS IT JEFF GOLDBLUM AND KIDS JUST FIGHTING A BIGGER STRONGER SHIP?!

The first movie was great fun. The characters were stereotypical and the plan to beat the aliens was so absurd that it shouldn't have succeeded at all. But the incredible special effects, the feel-good story, and Will Smith's charisma elevated it above its flaws. The movie was a spectacle that left you feeling energized by its triumphant-against-all-odds ending. Resurgence wasn't anywhere near as enjoyable. It sorely missed Will Smith's presence, it introduced a bunch of new, often dull characters who just couldn't fill that void, and the effects were nowhere near as awe-inspiring. A lot of the time, you couldn't tell the difference between the human tech and the alien tech. I know that's because the humans merged their tech with the alien's tech after the first invasion, and it's quite logical for them to use such advanced tech to bolster their own. But there isn't enough done to visually distinguish the opposing sides, leaving a lot of pew-pew-pews going on during the battles but not knowing who is pew-pew-pewing whom. And then the movie turns into a giant kaiju movie with the alien queen at the end? Ultimately, there just wasn't enough good to outweigh the bad, and you kinda feel indifferent by the end. It's too bad.

ps. The visuals in this one was mostly amazing and they were more diverse. The characters on the other hand were very flat and underdeveloped. The humor from the original was mostly missing and the dialogue was at times quite silly. Talk about wasting the potential that the actors and their characters could provide (and did in the first movie) with stars like Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Bill pullman etc. And this is in comparison to the first movie which wasn't Oscars material to begin with but it was still a lot more entertaining than this sequel.
