Nehru's words seem pertinent for today's political atmosphere, with reactionaries and radicals trying to force neutral-minded people to take a side, and even insisting on the subversion of democracy. It's becoming less common to believe in a right to freedom or the right to decide one's own policies or way or life.

I think Nehru was a visionary who formulated the world we are living in today.

Did it ever? Still a divided territory with a semi-dead national language turned to ashes in favor of English.

Miraak Prince of Apocrypha That's because France raped their land and took whatever is available to maintain a stable economy. Same with most countries in Africa too

Because "Algerians" don't form a monolithic block in which all think the same. They are people and each individual has a particular worldview and different personal interests.

Because in fact it's the independence for a small group of people on the top who controlled all other ones. In fact, the ordinary people don't care too much about politics. Their goal is to provide the better life for themselfs and for thier relatives.

Because there were several Algerians that found no place in the new independent Arab Republic of Algeria, for example: 1) Algerian Harkis 2) Algerian Secularists 3) Algerian Jews 4) Algerian Arab Christians 5) Berber separatists/ Berber speakers 6) Pieds Noirs some born in Algeria since the 1700s. 7) Various unrelated political dissidents.
