I must have looked at 50 pictures of this saw and dozen videos and you are the FIRST person to show and understand how important it is that the writhing blade? is lower than the top of the cutting blade. At LAST! Thank you!

You should be able to buy a rip fence from any brand as long as it's the same width as your table saw top and just take the clam that fits in your table saws rail off and put it on the new fence. May need to drill some holes but it should work. Or just build one out of wood that goes over the metal bar that is already attached and extend it all the way across the table saw.

You can cut a zero clearence fence with slot for riving knife, once youve raise the blade through the insert take it off and replace old insert and move fence to put blade level to zero insert and just cut the slot for the knife through to the blade slot. hope that was clear and understandible.

You can actually fix the fence 'lift' quite easily. You showed how the fence can be turned to either have a low or normal fence, well Loosen these fixing and then lock the fence off on the table. Now tighten the fixings on the fence again whilst the fence is in its locked position. I had the same issue with my Charnwood. This will stop the lift guaranteed!

Another great review! The wheel on my 18 month old Fury 5 table saw is so stiff now when trying to turn it to raise or lower the blade as well as setting the angle of the blade. The teeth for the wheel on this one (1:44) seem to be exposed whereas the old one was covered up partially by the front panel allowing sawdust to collect in there and block it all up so I can see the improvement in that regards. Shame about the fence, I made a temporary longer fence for mine (out an old drawer front!) which turned out to be surprisingly good so I kept it on! Doesn't say a lot for the original fence though!

I agree that the fence needs to be improved. The flex in the fence can result in gouging. I like a strong fence. Is there room on the arbor for dado blades or cabinet making blades? You know that I'm in Jersey, the new one (btw, newer doesn't mean better). Do they offer their products for sale in the USA?

I glad you got a saw for free - congratulations :). It's a cheap saw, which is cool. Seems get a lot of nice features in a affordable package. However: - With the propriertary mitre slot size, you won,t be able to buy any commercial mitre gauges, mitre tracks, thin rip jigs etc. That just seems stupid. - You didn't mention what the table was made of. If aluminium, how thick is the top plate? - It's sounded like a universal motor, with brushes, so it's very loud, and the brushes will wear out. - Did it have trunions, or a pin for blade tilting? Meaning - does it change the distance from the fence, when changing the angle? - Did you measure the run out with a dial indicator on the arbor? - The arbor size is 25,4mm, which is standard for mitre saws, but for table saws it's usually 30mm in the EU. So unless you wan't to use spacers, you are limited to using Mitre saw blades (or original Evoulution blades i guess), which has negative rake, meaning it is more prone to lifting the work pieces of the table top. - That fence is really flimsy. - How good is the longevity of the blade, if you do use it to cut steel, since this seems to be one of their main arguments to buy this saw. - How much does it weigh? Is it prone to moving, if pushing a heavy piece across through the blade? If it's meant to be portable, how easy is it to remove the legs? - The data sheet on their website is a joke. I enjoyed your video, but it seemed a little more like a commercial, than an actual review. Did they stupulate a favorable review i a contract, in order to provide you with the saw?
@petergdk
@petergdk 8 жыл бұрын
+Average Joes Joinery Hello again. Thank you for your respectful answer. No need to measure the thickness of the top, since i'm not in the marked for a saw rigth now. My observations are not meant as a personal critique of you. It's just a pet peave i have with KZbin reviews, which of course get favorable placements on google seaches, that basically describe the function of ANY product similar to the one reviewed: "This is a mobile phone. It has a speaker to produce audible sounds, and a microphone, to pick up sound waves from your vocal chords. It doesn't need an outlet, since it runs on batteries". Like all the "reviews" of the X-carve. A LOT of them where like "this is really great at cutting things that you design in a computer". Only after a long while, some bigger KZbin channels started discribing the serious faults. It was like a lot of people where so honoured to get something for free, they considered it rude to slam it. I guess it is possible that people buying a table saw doesn't have the faintest idea what such a tool can do, but i think most people buying a saw expects it to be able to raise and lower the blade. What is often interesting is the shorcommings and how well it performs expected tasks. Take the blade guard, where you tell us, that you take it off (smart move). That thing is downright dangerous. Normally you set the blade hight about 5mm over the thickness of the work piece. If you do that withthis saw, it will jam mid cut under the guard, leaving you with a workpiece trapped on a spinning blade. That's fine for a small workpiece, but for a long rip cut, you would have to back out of the cut. Your review did mention that the riving knife was lower than the blade, so you can make grooves without removing it. That kind of information is REALLY great. That is incidently also what makes the blade guard useless/dangerous, but who uses those anyway (except for the Saw Stop safety police). I'm not professional, but i am am a serious woodworker, and this saw is an entry level tool. But i seems to be a pretty decent one at that (again - except for the horrible fence). I wouldn't mind owning one, for cutting metal and resawing reclaimed wood with the odd nail in it. I appreciate that you take the time to make videos. I know what a long and ungrateful process this can be, so i think a free saw is a small compensation for the massive amount of work it is to produce, and i think your editing and camera work is good.

Great review Joe, There is always pros and cons with anything you buy, I have found on my cheap saw the plate round the blade is to weak near the center of the plate and when you push the wood through it pushes the plate down. So I hope the plate on the evolution is better. You are right it would be nice to get a fence that goes all the way across.

+Anthony Tobba Yes absolutely, just down to the blade. The TCT blade from the Fury is about £45 to buy separately, which does make the Fury seem better value if you want to cut metal. Einhell says it has an 1800W motor vs Fury's 1500W... Could be just marketing but for cutting wood Einhell seems better value.

G'day mate, nice review Joe. I started out with a Rockwell contractor type table saw but over time it didn't cut the mustard, I think like most woodworkers the next step up ( saving a wee bit longer ) is your cabinet style table saw because there is less play & vibration but they are solid & accurate & a once in a lifetime investment mate, grouse channel & keep up the great work, Dirk DownUnder

The saw, the fence, the quality of the product people will decide for themselves........I think it seems pretty decent for its price but my only gripe with Evolution is that you are stuck with their blades. Why dont they just make it a standard 30mm bore so you could buy a dedicated timber blade, or a really high tooth blade for fine cuts. But great review as usual Joe.

You can buy arbor reduction rings at 30mmOD to 25.4mmID for around £5. I've bought blades in the past with a couple of these included so it's not a big issue.

HI Joe, One point I would make if I may is that the blade has a 25.4 mm arbor hole. In my experience blades with this size central hole are really tricky to get hold of. You can obtain spacing washers but it's something to bear in mind. Cheers TC.

@AverageJoesJoinery 7 жыл бұрын
+James' Man Cave I mentioned in the review how the fence flex's at the end. Its not ideal but I didnt have it effect any of my cuts. Pressure should be applied before the blade so after the cut doesnt matter all that much. Ideally the fence would be full length and not move of course.

Great review. The wobbly fence would be a deal-breaker for me. Surely this makes this saw quite dangerous to use? At the very least it's going to affect the accuracy of cuts. I guess this is made to a tiny budget though, so that's not surprising. For the price, I think it's amazing, but personally I would spend more on something more solidly built. A table saw is probably one of the most dangerous power tools in the woodworking shop and I think it makes sense to buy the most solidly built one you can afford (even if it has to be second-hand to afford it).

+Average Joes Joinery Yes, you are probably right. I did actually look at this saw, or one very similar, in a B&Q store. They look good value and probably do the job. I guess most people can't really justify even spending £300 on a powertool.

Good review of the saw but a few things Evolution could improve. I know for the price it would be unfair to expect all the bells and whistles but the fence seems a little too flimsy for what I'd like. Infact the first thing I'd do is fashion one out of unistrut! Also the stop start switch I think is a real oversight. I'm sure you've seen yourself, the flip down emergency stop cap can easily become dislodged and that would make it harder to stop the machine in a panic. My Bosch has a stop switch that you literally throw your knee at if you're in a tricky situation. Evolution should really give this more consideration I feel.

Hey Joe. Thanks Joe for your reply. Ive hardly used the tablesaw. The wood doesnt burn during cutting nor ripping, but you mentioned about the wood bending and not going through straight. I have thought myself that may be the cause, or do you think whilst Im pushing the wood through the blade itself is slightly turning and causing this problem. I will have a tinker over the weekend and cut different sizes of wood and let you know. Cheers joe. Andy

Hey Joe Great review bud. Told me everything that I need. This should be more than capable for my requirements. Would you recommend a blade with more teeth per inch for cutting sheet ply with a laminate covering? I need a good clean cut without chipping along the edge. Cheers John.
@AverageJoesJoinery
@AverageJoesJoinery 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks John! Glad you found it helpful :) I haven't got any personal experience with using any blade other than the standard blade that comes fitted. Evolution do sell a specific wood cutting blade too but I've never used it. Something to bare in mind is that the Evolution saws have a different sized arbour to standard blades so if you get a different branded blade you will also need an adaptor. A couple of tips that help when cutting laminates is to first make a shallow scoring cut with the blade only raised up slightly. You could also make a scoring cut with a razor blade too. Another tip would be to put a strip of masking tape along where the cut will be. It really does help to stop any chip out.

Thanks Joe, great review. I'm just getting into woodworking and seem to have become an all-Evolution guy, already having the Rage 3 mitre, Rage 8 reciprocating, and Rage 7-S jigsaw (all purchased used from their eBay outlet.) I really want a table saw and this Fury 5-S would seem the natural choice - not least because (I assume) it can use the same 255mm x 25.4mm blades as my Rage 3 255mm mitre saw. I just bought their 40 tooth wood blade so would be good if I can interchange blades between the mitre and the table saw. One question: have you had any thoughts about improving the fence? You seem like a guy who builds your own jigs/improvements, so I wondered if you had any plans to work out a way to change/improve the fence, so it could be clamped both ends? I was thinking maybe even just extending the fence would work - like cutting a piece of wood the same thickness as it, and bolting that to the end of the fence so it goes the full length of the table, and can then be clamped at the other end? What do you think? One other option I have for a table saw is the Erbauer 250mm which I *think* does have a full-length fence, so that's still one minor concern I have re the Evolution. Anyway, thanks again for the great video - subscribed!
