I'm so freakin loving this channel that universe just dropped into my lap.. anyway, question for you Chantel.. (from one artist to another) is your niche more of an illustrator doing gig work and lots of low ticket sales.. and/or have you pulled off selling any high ticket pieces yet?

Ooo I love this question!! My biggest selling items are definitely commissions 2k+ but gig work like books/illustrations do pay more! Over the years I’ve found my original work best sells around Aud $400-600. Sometimes people devalue my work when I say illustrator so it’s hard to market yourself as both an fine artist and illustrator 😅 hope that all makes sense!

I think you are on to something.. if people perceive you as a common resource, they value you as such.. but if you can start infusing some kind unique magic and energy into your work.. and raise your prices triple from where they are .. then find the people in the world that want "your" magic and energy infused creations. What do you think?

Your art is beautiful, and the ones with children look magical, have you thought about designing an area to look like a baby nursery/ children's room with your artwork and have it photographed and using those pictures to send out to designers?

8:00 were the tickets free or a cost to entry ? And absolutely it’s worth have different price points. Originals along with stickers, prints and lower price points 😊

Yes I charged AUD $20p ticket which included live music, food and everything else on the night xx (and selling those tickets covered most of the venue hire so I could make all the profit on the art and prints 😊)

Thank you! I think majority also expect free entry in Australia but you just have to market it as more than just an average art exhibition 😊

4:58 the exhibition was just 3 days? Lot of work for three days but sounds like it was an amazing experience with good turn out 🥰 what made you decide to have it so far with travel costs ? Looks beautiful space 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you so much ✨ yes only a night and weekend as I had to hire the venue each day! Kangaroo Island is quite small 5k population so I really wanted to connect and grow my audience beyond 🧚 and also see what I am capable of 😊

@@chantalleonhardt yes love that! Always good to test limits and see what capable of. I’m looking at hiring a venue for two weeks but with the venue plus opening night, plus framing a couple (rest of undreamed canvas ) it’s likely to be £1000 (uk) and this is why I have the side hustle to top me up and allow for these risk taking. It’s going to be a great solo though and need to ask friends who are in bands for an hour of live music- would pay them . It’s just a gamble if art will connect to people but I’m doing it for the experience and to have it as history of a show I put on, as part of my artistic journey resume :) Inspiring and if three days can do well, I may have to consider one week which is the min hire .

That’s super exciting!! My total cost for the exhibition was around AUD 2k and 1k for framing (definitely cut corners) and having a part time job helps me too! I also traded art for music and everything myself than out source ✨ Good luck with the exhibition if you have any questions at all let me know xx

@@chantalleonhardt thank you, that’s reassuring it also cost you in a similar region. We do like to gamble for the belief in our art at times! Having at good sales in group shows in the past I know it’s possible though not garanteed will make those connections. Instead I try to just show my art to more people and have fun getting to know them. Mutual excitement and best feeling when someone does wish to take one home. Thank you!
