Thanks mate :) Yeah when I found it washed up at the rocks that day I would have never dreamt that one day it will catch me a decent hammerhead shark, LOL That was quite something as I have never caught a big one like that from the kayak before, haha.

done a few beach clean ups b4 and omg u find so many stuff around most of them not really good but u managed to find a tool that was reused as a gem haha great work on resurrecting that reel! haha

Haha, cheers. Yeah it was a lucky find :) Usually it's just junk, old fishing line and if lucky maybe a sinker or two.

I like to do the same at low tide. Always ending up with some new lures 😉👍

I've got a Torium 16HG. For a cheap reel, relatively speaking, has caught me plenty of decent kingfish off the kayak it's been amazing. Fantastic value for money. Would rather buy two of them (with change left over) than say one Talica 12. Well done on the beach clean up.

Cheers Rob. Yeah, they are very good reels for the price, eh. And indestructible at that. I have gone through so many reels over the years that couldn't withstand the rigors of kayak fishing. I'm now only using sealed Penn reels and this Shimano overhead reel. And these seem to be able to handle the job :)

Amen mate I’ve had some places I’ve gone where I’ve filled 3 or 4 large garbage bags with rubbish
@Fishingreminder2 жыл бұрын
yeah sometimes the amount of rubbish is shocking, eh. Always a good idea to take a few extra rubbish bags when rock or beach fishing. There's a lot more rubbish near bigger cities like Auckland than in the more remote locations where we usually fish.

Yeah when I fish my cars always loaded with gear but Whether I’m fishing from my car or I’m walking to a spot with my back pack I always have a few garbage bags rolled up ajd a pair of cheap latex gloves as so many people leave their rubbish one of these days I’d love to contact my local council ajd ser if they would allow me to do a big cleanup with a few mates of our local wayterways and have the council allow us to drop a trailer of garbage at the council tip for free as I’m sure if 3 or 4 guys drove around Auckland for the day with a trailer they would fill it no worries I’ve done it back in Australia before je and a few buddies man we had a massive trailer with big high sides we had 100 garbage bags it was crazy

@@badboy2859 that's a good idea mate. hope the council will agree, they can be a huge pain to deal with. But it would be such a fantastic project.

You didn't chang the line? Drag sounds good.
@Fishingreminder2 жыл бұрын
The line looked good, good quality braid. This stuff usually doesn't degrade much in saltwater. But yeah it was stupid not to change it right away, because the top layer was somewhat damaged by the sharp shells and barnacles growing on it. I wanted to try the reel first before investing in new expensive braid, just to make sure it actually works properly.

Go taking trash out. I love to see people do that. I have two Torium 30s and they are beasts. Five foot bull shark was no problem bringing in. A huge stingray 5 ft across came in no problem. Many big bull redfish 40 inches plus. I can cast it around 200 yards with a 6 oz sinker on a 12 ft surf rod. It's s beast of a reel
@Fishingreminder2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jim. I must try this on my surf rod for shark fishing. Do you have an overhead surf rod or do you use it with a standard rod?
@jimpresley-oldfishingfool2612 жыл бұрын
@@Fishingreminder I have them on 12 ft Diawa Beefstick rods. You need to add the under rod clamp as the standard rings are not strong enough for big tussles like this. The Beefstick rod is but it's reel seat needs help. I think the clamp assembly is around $25

Amazing thorough clean up job . Question , what do you think about using the okuma komodo ss / steel gears on freezing weather ? Hold up or need to oil lot more often? Great video ! Great job!
@Fishingreminder2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John :) I don't have much experience with Okuma gear. I usually only use Penn or Shimano. Perhaps someone else can chime in.
