Already hospitals charge you hefty fees of you have insurance just to earn money and one of the reasons why insurance claims are rejected. @@AdityaJape allopathy is still considered best solutions for major disease like cancer etc. Also operations are one of the major struggle for everyone as most of them are very expensive. Yes there are such hospitals but not everywhere and they still change you quite good. Ayurvedic etc are only good for gastic, stomach problems etc.

This isn't insurance, this is like gurantee to payment, u just need to have care to avail its use .govt pays for it . Although scheme is marred with corruption of fake patient so govt must focus on checking corruption and expanding hospital network under it

Dear Palki, am settled in one such European country with free health coverage. BUT it doesn’t work as it seems. Even for a simple X Ray you need to wait for years. Of course unless you are literally next to death, you have to wait. There are too many sick people, including the old and weak not getting the required treatments on time. Not only, due to lack of family doctors, it’s now also difficult to get prescription for medicines. But you are forced to pay 60% taxes and yet I get most of my medical tests done in India.

Ideally if it's universal they shouldn't need to make an Ayushman Card. Just have an Adhaar card to confirm your age and that's it. Who is gonna arrange so many documents in times of medical emergency.

Great move by the govt, one observation which I see is the avg life expectancy for India in 2021 reported at 69.96, govt should look at offering this for age bracket from 55 or even 60 this will eventually benefit lot of people who are in need.

The moment hospital knows your health coverage under any insurance hospital will take you for a ride by inflating bills in the name of all unnecessary tests, etc. Recently it happened in my case. First the problem was not diagnosed for three days and finally it was diagnosed as simple Flu. Bill came out for ₹1.25 lakhs. 4 days of hospitalisation. Insurance Co paid ₹78000 and the rest out of my pocket. Flu is treatable without hospitalisation as is the experience with everyone with just paracetamol tablets. Surprisingly when I went to hospital there was no flu. But in hospital I got it. Very sad experience. It’s all because I have health insurance 😂

If government feel it is burden then let them bring scheme where retired personal contribute 20-30% premium. If you buy private health insurance it would easily cost 50-60K annual premium for elderly couple.

Hope this one is not an eyewasher for the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Delhi. Hope the process is simple without complications and is accepted in good pvt hospitals. Also why 70 years? The scheme has to reach and benefit every senior citizen above 60 years to start with, befor more beneficiaries are included in lower age bracket.
