June 4, 2020 was an historic moment in the bilateral relationship between India and Australia as Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Scott Morrison decided to elevate it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The relationship is experiencing a steady growth at a time when the world is faced with unprecedented challenges. What are its future directions and what needs to be done to give it the potential of being one of the defining partnerships in the Indo-Pacific? AIIA (ACT Branch) invites you to join HE A Gitesh Sarma, High Commissioner of India to Australia, to discuss India-Australia bilateral relations.
HE A Gitesh Sarma is High Commissioner of India to Australia. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1986, where he worked in the Ministry of External Affairs as Under Secretary (Europe East) and Director (Central Asia). Mr Sarma's overseas assignments include Indian Missions in Russia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Pakistan and United Kingdom. He has been Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan and High Commissioner of India in Fiji. Additionally, he served as the Officer on Special Duty (IT Enabled Services) in the Information Technology Department of the state of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad and as Joint Secretary (External Relations) in the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Prior to taking up his present post, Mr Sarma was Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs until November 2019.
