EDIT: Not only that "Bengal sultanate" or modern day Bangladesh produced 52% of Mughal Empire GDP & 33% of Worlds GDP. Historically, Bengal or Bangladesh has been the industrial leader of the subcontinent & produced 52% of the Mughal Empire GDP & 33% of the world GDP during British Raj & & fueled the First Industrial Revolution in Europe & America in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840 particularly with the proto-industrialized Mughal Bengal ( modern day Bangladesh), through the activities of the East India Company. ... Bengal or Bangladesh produced Tea, Jute, Opium (( Opium was produced in a district call 'Nilphaamari' in Bangladesh which was supplied to China by The East India Company & the sole reason behind The Opium Wars.)) The region is one of the largest rice producing areas in the world, Bangladesh being the world's 3rd largest rice producer & West Bengal being India's largest rice producer. Other key crops include jute, tea, sugarcane,wheat,etc. There are significant reserves of URANIUM, limestone, natural gas and coal in the districts of Sylhet, Meghalaya & Assam in Bangladesh. Major industries include textiles, leather goods, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, banking and information and communication technology. When Bengal was reorganized, Penang, Singapore and Malacca were separated into the Straits Settlements in 1867. British Burma became a province of British Raj. Western areas, including the Ceded and Conquered Provinces and The Punjab, were further reorganized. Northeastern areas became Colonial Assam. The Partition of British India in 1947 resulted in Bengal's division on religious grounds.

IMO English should be accepted by all countries. Here in Tamil Nadu, India, the north is trying to impose Hindu language onto us for many decades and in recent years this has ramped up. They are trying to remove Tamil national identity as well as culture, this is also happening to non-hindu speaking states. English on the other hand, not only is a language which is widely spoken to some degree around the world, but it would also be a good language for communication between hindu and non-hindu speaking states, because then everybody would have to learn a new language, not just one or the other. It is international level to a good degree because of the British empire

Americans shouldn’t fly too much on the high gdp per capita. They are forgetting that they cannot compete with India and China when it comes to witnessing exponential growth in their economy. The rising days have gone. Bottom 50% Americans avg income has only gone down in the past 2 decades and today’s stands at the worst condition amongst all the developed western nation. America’s growth rate is 2% while India’s growth rate would be 8-9% by next year and that is expected to remain that high for years to come, so allowing it to compete closely.

If you look closely india is investing heavily on infrastructure development to provide for foreign investment in manufacturing sector specially in electronics like mobile, screens OEMs to capitalise on china's falling trust in the global market. If this is done right India will be the next manufacturing hub. But reforms on e-commerce and import duty is also necessary to protect the economy at the same time.

India's biggest drawback is the relationship with foreign companies and entities and the unpredictability. Everything here is unpredictable and that's why companies are afraid to invest. Even our own industrialists struggle with it. Tata tried building a car factory but they were thrown out because of a farmer agitation. Singapore official struck a deal to build a city in AP, but they were thrown out by the next government. Japan is try to build bullet train but the local government is trying to stop it. Currently Modi is trying to bring more corporates to buy products from farmers easily. But it's getting stopped and people are turning to a kind of corporate capturing. If we don't fix them, then don't expect India to grow. Sos stop criticising him guys !

If the government is so serious why doesn't it drop its lethal taxation? The previous government introduced new bill purposely to extract more taxes but the current one doesn't want to leave this malai. Why do you think F1 races stopped at the Buddh circuit(and FIA banned this circuit)? Because the government demanded more taxes and the JP group could no longer fund more. About bullet train, work only started because then BJP ruled the state govt. It was never in Maharashtra's interest to pay 50k crores for a bullet train passing through only its non-industrial regions and more than 70% of track being in Gujrat. The state govt is just saying this project isn't a priority for them(they haven't stopped it). Works going in full swing in other projects like Samruddhi Expressway which is more important for Maharashtra. Frankly why doesn't the central govt work in more fundamental areas like proper signalling and fencing train routes round the country? Our trains always have to operate in lower speeds due to poor infrastructure. Improving this will be much better for the economy and much much more cost-effective than costly bullet trains. Lastly, about farmer protests, they are scared corporates will steal all their profit. Free-market is generally good for any economy and we should see how it plays out, but this govt denies even paying back profits to farmers in case this system fails in the starting years. Either way, they haven't even paid back GST fees back to state governments even when they were legally obliged to, forget farmers, they can't do anything.

It is one very interesting video. while I cannot comment too much on India as I've never been there, I would say a few things. first, When Chinese economy started taking off in early 1980s, China was facing mountains of issues. so just because India facing issues at this moment, doesn't mean it can not have better future. the key is how India addresses those issues, and takes India where it wants to be. Second, as for the younger population, it can work against India if they are not properly educated, or utilized. the population growth can be an asset, or could be liability. last point, I just don't see how India can repeat what China did, or should they repeat. India needs to find its own path to success.

Some are caught and punished and always in the news. Even today Nepal is well ahead of India in many human development indices. I lived and schooled in India. I am no economist, but as an enthusiast and a citizen of India, here's a little description of pros and cons of our current economy. Now one of the biggest problem in India is it's inability to capitalize on its single largest advantage which is an abundance of cheap labour. Currently the single largest contributer to India's GDP is the service sector at around 55% but it employs only 23% of the workforce which itself tells the high level of inequality by just sectors without even considering the inequality within the sectors. As most of the growth of India's economy came from just 1/4th of the population which is in minority but significant enough to raise up prices of almost everything in the market ranging from food items to housing prices which intern causes the labour prices across all sectors to rise without much productivity growth which can quickly diminish India's biggest advantage of low cost labour and later into the development stage, we might see ourselves trapped in the "Middle income trap" like it happened with Brazil, South Africa and the likes of other. Also keeping in mind that in the future India's population will also start to age and decline, which will have a extremely serious toll on the economy, as we have examples of Japan and Italy but they got themselves into the problem after becoming developed while India's case it's highly likely we would be stuck in a developing stage which will be horrible. Also India is overly reliant on small and micro businesses, which cannot achieve the same level of efficiency as medium or big businesses can and that's partly a reason that our politicians are reluctant to make the country free-er for other countries even though it will definitely benefit us in the long run but in the short run, it's almost certain we will see mass bankruptcies throughout the country. Now the pluses are A. Currently India is in a sweet spot to make use of it's demographic dividend as you mentioned in the video B. Very high potential of building up a strong tourism sector as Indias history is very rich and there's a lot of touristy things in the country. C. The fact that Chinas economy is maturing and quickly losing competitiveness in a lot of sectors, which would probably result in a global relocation of supply chains so India can get a lot our of it, the recent PLI scheme from the government would probably help in the process. Yes. China didn’t really have economic liberalisation, it was more of a reform. If Mao hasn’t executed the Cultural Revolution, China may have been like India today. Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore and saw that the ethnic Chinese had adopted the free market system, and were thriving. Deng new that the Maoist economic policy was over, and that he could revolutionise china’s economy without Mao being there. India liberalized due to the fall of the Soviet Union. It's been already a decade+ since I've been hearing about China's collapsed and India's raising superpower!.. While I didn't see any of that happen yet and I don't see that happening anytime soon either. I'm Indian and I want to see my country doing good, but I'm being practical with my analysis and not carried away by all the feel good videos and articles. There is absolutely potentials there for India to live up to the hype, but the reality just doesn't connect with potentials in a country where political parties went to elections every 5 years. Add to that the state assembly elections and we have elections every year. Political parties first priority is to win elections, developments comes later. Huge resources and time are spend/wasted trying to win election instead of focusing on important national issues like economic growth and development or poverty alleviation etc. Due to this demanding and changing political scenario in India, long terms plans are derailed if a new government comes in, unfortunately. India's average age today is already 29 years, relatively young but not very young anymore compared to countries like Pakistan (22), and it'll be 35+ soon by 2040, and 38+ by 2050. In a democratic country where things run very slow, 20-30 years is a very limited period for any government to bring in all the missing pieces together and BOOM create an economic miracles like China did in just few decades. India's political system is very different from that of China both in theory and in practice, therefore India need to find an effective way to get things done that is different from China's way of doing things. Not only addressing the issue of bureaucratic hassles, infrastructure etc. India also need to re-look at the education systems that is so poor in delivering quality workforce required by industries. For examples; 80% of India's engineer graduates are unemployable or jobless or doesn't have the required skills to do the job. Thousands and lakhs of PhD scholars, master degree holders, engineer graduates are applying for Peon job today, that too only a handful of them will be selected. That's a sad reality. Things are not as rosy as it sounds. We got to do our homework before bragging about potential superpower status. Jai hind.

It already has several excellent universities and institutes of technology, building blocks of a tech savvy workforce, and flourishing high-tech centres like Electronic City in Bengaluru. Add to this the fact that the English language is widely spoken. Maybe it is not such a bad thing that India is developing more slowly than China. Who wins in the end? The tortoise or the hare?
