So basically they are singing the notes while the lyrics are the notes themselves, Do Re Mi becomes Sa Re Ga, well that’s what Google told me 🤯

Yes, this is the scale in India classical music (Sa Re Ga Ma) and is the basis of Ragas. It's an very nuanced topic because of how old Indian classical is, but you've got the gist of it!

@@renosance8941 Basically I tried to find where this was from. Turns out "Ami je Tomar" is from a movie called Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and is based on the song "Mere Dholna" from the first movie. The "Sargam" part is just the name of what is basically acapella in Indian music, where you sing notes instead of words. This also led to some discussion about what Ragas or Raags it was based on, "Raag" in Indian classical music being the kind of what a mode or scale would be in western music theory, but not exactly the same thing. Supposedly the whole song is based on the jaijaiwanti, rageshree and khamaj ragas, and a quick search of each yields some beautiful improvisations and compositions. This specific part of the song, the sargam, is based on the latter two. You can also find indian music theory analysis videos where they identify which parts belong to each one. It's fascinating to see how rich and complex non-western music theory is. I just wish I was a musician so I could understand more.

@@renosance8941 Trying to find out where this is from, I found "Ami je Tomar" is a song from a famous movie called Bhool Bhulaiya 2, and is based on the song "Mere Dholna" from the first movie. "Sargam" isn't part of the song name, it refers to singing notes instead of lyrics, similar to acapella music, so that's the part of the song when they sing like that. While looking for this, I found some discussion about what "Raag" or "Raga"s this song is based on. A Raag is a framework in Indian classical music similar to a key or mode in western music theory, but not exactly. The Raag more commonly associated with this song were called jaijaiwanti and rageshree, and looking up these names in youtube gave me some great compositions and improvisations based on each. Mere Dholna is a beautiful song, and you can find a video here that has some excellent choreography and cinematography with a quick search for it. I just wish I was a musician so I could really understand more of this.

For some reason I've replied twice, and it hasn't showed up, but it let me find Mere Dholna, which Ami je Tomar is based on (a song from the first movie, while Ami je Tomar is from the sequel). Also that Sargam is a style of singing which sings notes instead of lyrics similar to acapella, which is the part of Mere Dholna that this video covers. This led to seeing a video of the scene with Mere Dholna from Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which has some gorgeous choreography and cinematography. Also found some discussion as to what Raga or Raag Mere Dholna is based on, and what Raag are, which is a framework in Indian classical music similar to a key or mode in western music theory, but a lot more complex. Finding those Raag (jaijaiwanti and rageshree) took me on a journey of watching some beautiful compositions and improvisations in each.

The occurrence of genetic diseases in certain subpopulations in India and other countries in South Asia is well known. Indian scientists now suspect that this could be due to genetic isolation caused by endogamous marriages over generations. Endogamous marriages-meaning people marrying within a subpopulation based on caste, gotra, language or culture-lead to reduced genetic variation. They are different from marriages among close relatives (consanguineous marriages), a practice also prevalent in parts of South India. In genetics, the phenomenon of a small number of ancestors giving rise to many descendants is known as “founder event” or a population bottleneck. A study of anthropologically different subpopulations in South Asia has revealed that many of them are a result of strong ‘founder events’. In each of such groups, large stretches of DNA originates from a common founder in the last about 100 generations. There is less genetic variation because these subpopulations have lived in genetic isolation despite co-living with other groups for centuries due to various factors including caste. Such populations are vulnerable to recessive genetic diseases (in which an offspring gets disease-causing genes from both parents). Source:In caste-ridden India, genetic isolation may be harmful to health Dinesh C Sharma

And this is just rehearsed. Think of the maestros spitting kalpanaswarams irl on the spot (kslpanaswarams are singing the notes of a raga in compositions as additional performance based solely on the spontaneous creativity of the singer)

Indian Scale Saptak : Saptak means "gamut" or "the series of seven notes". It denotes the set of swaras, Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni which comprise a musical scale in Indian classical music. In Sanskrit, saptak literally means "containing seven" and is derived from the Sanskrit word sapta which means "seven". Indian classical music has seven basic notes, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni, with five interspersed half-notes, resulting in a 12-note scale. The Natya Shastra is an ancient Indian treatise on the performing arts, encompassing theatre, dance and music. It was written during the period between 200 BC and 200 AD and is traditionally attributed to the Sage Bharata. While the term raga is articulated in the Natya Shastra (where its meaning is more literal, colour, as in mood), it finds a clearer expression in what is called ‘jati’ in the Dattilam. The Dattilam is an ancient Indian musical text ascribed to the sage Dattila. It is believed to have been composed between the 1st and 4th century AD. The Dattilam is focused on gandharva music, and discusses scales (swara), defining a tonal framework called ‘grama’ in terms of 22 micro-tonal intervals (sruti) comprising one octave. The seven notes of the scale (swaras), in Indian music are named shadja, rishabh, gandhar, madhyam, pancham, dhaivat and nishad, and are shortened to Sa, Ri (Carnatic) or Re (Hindustani), Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, and Ni. Collectively these notes are known as the sargam (the word is an acronym of the consonants of the first five swaras). Sargam is the Indian equivalent to solfège. Sargam is generally practised against a drone. The tone Sa is not associated with any particular pitch. As in Western moveable-Do solfège, Sa refers to the tonic of a piece or scale rather than to any particular pitch. Shadja is the defining note of the scale. The word Shadja means 'giving birth to six', and refers to the fact that once this note is fixed, the placement of other notes in the scale is determined. Shadja’ is considered to be the one from which the other six notes emerge. Brihaddeshi is a Classical Sanskrit text on Indian classical music (6th - 8th century AD) attributed to Matanga Muni. It is the first text that speaks of raga. It introduced sargam notation. Of the seven notes, "Sa" is the most firm note. Without sa, the entire saptak falls apart. The name for Sa is "sadja." It comes from the Sanskrit "sad + aja." In Sanskrit, "Sad" means "six", while "aja" means creator of the other six notes. These notes cannot have true definition unless Sa is defined, because the position of Sa will define where Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, and Ni fall. The next firm note is "Pa." The union of "Sa" and "Pa" represents the perfect union, the perfect harmony. Sa and Pa are immovable, this forms a perfect fifth. Every other note can move. Sa, Re/Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha/Da, and Ni is traditionally held to have originated from the sound of a different animals. Some sounds have additional meanings of their own. Each swara is associated with one of the seven chakras of the body.
