It's close to international shipping lane and can give tough time to Colombo port in future.Its natural depth can shore monster ships without dredging cost which comes itself 100s of crore in other ports every year.This is near to Kovalam beach and Trivandrum city, which boost tourism.

From Vizhinjam, to smaller ports the best way for movement of containers seems to be Railways. But if ships are to be used as mentioned in this video, then i think they are targeting coal, oil, rice etc

Kerala has uneven terrain, more of hills and not much for plains rather than near kochi. This mean Land is costly and add to this the high population density and high real estate costs, you have quite the bill on your hands. Roads are clogged enough already honestly.
