It was my first cricket match ever to see. I am lucky that my first watched match was a great cricket gamr. I was then 4 years. But still remember the thing. Imran hit 137 and pakistan scored 487/9 in returned India did527/7 result match drawn. One thing i really enjoyed that Gavaskar continued the bating while i was in school, coming home,took shower,had mid day meai, took nap in mid day, awaken from sleep and at late noon still Gavaskar carry on but with sensible runs. It was really amazing. Oh! How nice those days. The hindi commentary in doordarshan still heard in my ears. How appealful, i felt today. Neverback those days,the real nice and golden days.

Srikkant-Gavaskar formed a superb opening pair in both Test and ODI Cricket. Unfortunately, as a pair, they played only for 4 years, during 1983 WC - 1987 WC, after which Gavaskar chose to retire. Gavaskar was playing so well that he could have played for 2 more years, but he said that one should leave the game on his height, when people ask "Why?", and not "Why not?" !

Gavaskar was an excel around him many openers came and went.Gavaskar started playing cricket for India as an opener in1971 and played till 1987.On the other hand Srikkant used to play an attacking cricket till 1992 world Cricket Cup.

Yes. Even Sachin Tendulkar wanted to bat with Sunil Gavaskar who was one of Sachin's role model. But unfortunately didn't get a chance to do so as Sachin made his debut for India only 2 years after Gavaskar retired.

Before we glamorize this series, here is what was written by press at the time: "A run of 11 successive draws between India and Pakistan was dramatically ended in the final Test in Bangalore. After four Tests on pitches so tame as to make draws almost certain from the start, the series decider was played on a minefield with the spinners wreaking havoc. It was a test of nerve, but after bowling Pakistan out for 116, Maninder Singh grabbing 7 for 27, India succumbed for 145 and then set 221, slid to a 16-run defeat. An eighth-wicket stand of 51 in Pakistan's second innings was decisive, but Sunil Gavaskar's 96 almost took India to victory. India controlled the second and fourth Tests but slow overs rates and negative tactics allied to turgid pitches nullified any advantage. In the limited-overs series, Pakistan's superiority was beyond dispute. They had a number of utility players in their ranks, any one of whom could fashion a match-winning effort with the bat, and they won the series 5-1."

Imran khan was the man of the series. India produced dead wickets to keep their pace suspect batting line up in those days and with extra cushioning of patriotic umpires. Imran khan was superb with his batting and bowled long spells along waseem akram on dead wickets and managed to win the series. Imran khan would invite india after two years in pakistan with neutral umpires. What a man.

Gavaskar a selfish cricketer who played for himself and scored centuries. Blamed by kapil dev when australa scored over 280 in Sydney in 1984/85 in wold series Cup final kapil said if he had batsmen like Richards or zaheer abbas they would have won... sri kanath was a pinc- hitter but the west indian ripped through his defence in on many occasions... casually, he succeeded to cross fifty.

As per your sarcasm, if we Indians are any deficient in making or using good cameras, that too in sports, we are highly efficient in producing vaccines to counter the present worldly crisis. We have done this in a very less time and have gracefully supplied it to many nations too. @@waseemchaudhry2933 Desmond used to defend well, but a slow and steady accumulator who's wicket was hard to take for any bowler. But, Gordon was a good smasher and a speedy run-getter. Both were very watchful and selective in shots. But, Srikkant was a smasher who selects shots rarely. It was his strength as well as weakness. While the former couple were patient, the latter was an urgent customer.
