I as a 6th std boy wore test whites and took autographs from the whole team including Anshuman Gaekwad the coach. Man, what a priceless moment it was! especially when Ganguly patted my head !! If only 1998 is considered, then Sachin was at absolute peak scoring some 1800+ runs averaging around 65 with 9 centuries. Aravinda scored a paltry 700 runs at an average of 32. Sachin in 1998 was a different batsman, miles ahead of anyone else.

But yes, 105 during a chase carries more points because of the pressure so you could say it was better. Coming to the year of 1996, Sachin was the top scorer that year as well scoring some 400+ runs more than Aravinda.

@@Aniruddharmdgm look. In this match de Silva played far better. He did not open the innings and he scored the runs at a much faster rate. He came in with wickets down. He also played Kumble better than anyone. And he was batting with an injury. In 96 De Silva upstaged Tendulkar at the world cup and he completely upstaged him and any other player at the singer cup. Do not rely on statistics please. In 97 De Silva was king in my eyes.

Robin Singh's run out was so ridiculous. Jayasurya clearly dislodged the bails by his hands. The umpire was looking the other way (not even watching the batsman or the bowler or if the batsman made his ground) and he gave a decision without even consulting the third umpire !!! It was as if he had decided to give the batsman out irrespective of what the appeal was for !!

Murli has been one of the best off spinners the world has ever seen but to be honest, he never bothered batsmen of India or Pakistan as they both play spin very well.
