Ships brought amphorae of wine to Indian ports as part of its sea trade with the Roman empire even in the beginning of the first millennium CE. So India has an ancient connection with wine drinking as noted in, say, William Dalrymple's text, 'The Golden Road'. Unfortunately, because of the dark library (12:40), the professor could not find any books except only one on the medieval Mughal period.

by his own admission, he destroyed the natural habitat and pristine grassland to make wine. Not sure it is ideal

It’s the same story with every vineyard in the world ! Forests converted to agriculture land

"peasants are stripping the vines" Wow! They are called people, or vineyard workers, or farmers! You sound like a ignorant person that has very little understanding or respect!
@krisi756220 күн бұрын
I am not sure whether it is such a serious mistake to use the word peasant rather than farmer! It may not be 'politically correct'. Have you any thoughts on the main theme of this video?
@pommard9119 күн бұрын
@@krisi7562 Is English your first language? The term peasant is derogatory, the word farmer is descriptive! It is rude to call someone a peasant! It is not rude to call someone a farmer if that is what they do!

@@pommard91 People with or without English as their first language deploy the wrong term on occasion. In this context, I would have said 'farm workers'. 'Peasants' may mean rural and unlettered. I would not use it myself. You want to go 'hammer and tongs' over the violation of PC when there are many issues in growing grapes in the tropics. Wine making in India has both a traditional and modern dimension. In traditional wine-making in Asia, making rice or barley wine (In India 'Madhu Bhan' was made from Pommagranate juice too) Ingredients added to grape juice to ferment it to turn into wine are different to Europe. Every culture has its own way of fermenting wine and 'ageing' it. Leftists jump roof high over political correctness leaving little energy to discuss matters of substance!! It is okay in university seminars but not for the KZbin.

Drinking wine makes you " modern" ???? The only word coming to my mind is 'delulu'. India is indeed modernising but sorry to say it is not 'westernizing' by mass drinking grape wine even in far future. This bourgeoisie trend is limited to the Americas and Europe only. The Asian neo aristocracy can pretend to be a connoisseur but the moment center of world wealth shifts from europe and Americas to Asia . The wine drinking culture is going back to southern Europe . No hate to wine as it is a fine beverage but it is merely a 'beverage'.
