INDIAN BOARDTRACK RACER replica with 3-D manual clutch.

Replica Indian boardtrack racer with manual clutch and modified Gx200 engine, billet flywheel, ARC conrod, flat top piston, ram manifold, 22mm mikuni carb. The bike features many handbuilt items including frame, wheels, tank, etc ,etc, including some modern additions.
Hope to inspire others to build something similar as others have inspired me with their amazing builds.

Beautiful. Has to be one of the best ones out there, certainly the best one I've seen so far. Or maybe the one that is closest to what I'm also looking for (trying to figure out what to build). The things that I like are also the things that stand out if you compare it to a 1910s boardtrack racer: Disc brakes, one single chain on the right. And I'm torn between authentic look and modern (safety, comfort, ease of use).

I have one question though I was hoping you may answer please, I noticed someone ask if you have any oil issue with the engine tilted and you said no, but my question is how much oil you put in it in order for the inside to get lubrication? And also how do you check your oil?

well these honda's have a plug on either side, perfect for draining and filling, only fill till it reaches the indicator on the top oil bung.

I fabricated the tank myself, its made from stainless and tig welded, you wont find another like it but you may find a similar one somewhere.

This bike is awesome what type of frame was used? I want to try to make something like this in the future. Is there a specific frame you chose to go with this? Or was it homemade? I'm in New York state and in order to have a license vehicle on the road the frame needs to have a VIN number so I'd like to know if the frame was either homemade or you used a pre-existing frame which is what I'm hoping

I am happy to answer all your questions Patrick, and i can sense the enthusiasm in your words, i am happy to hear that you like the bike. Firstly the frame is based on an early indian single frame with torpedo tank circa 1916-1920, frame has been fabricated by myself ,, no (VIN number). Engine is a Honda Gx200 with oversize piston ,race cam, large port head and oversize valves, billetflywheel, ram manifold, double valvesprings, roller rockers,,22mm mikuni carb,manual clutch, etc -14- 16hp roughly. Rims and tyres are fat bike bicycle 24,1/4 inch, double wall aluminium rims, drilled for 72 stainless spokes, milled heavy duty 2 inch stainless hubs with pressed bearings and 1/2 inch axles, its a weapon to ride with the low weight,,, good luck hope that helps.

One last question did you get the engine complete how you described it or did you piece it together to make it into what it is on the bike? I guess what I'm saying is I don't have much experience with building engines, welding, etc, I'm going to school to be a machinist, just wondering if there are engine kits that closely replicate this or if it's from scratch mostly. Great to hear you are going to school to be a machinist,, a proud occupation,, a great skill with many advantages for creating all sorts of stuff for your self in the future,, as far as the engine on my bike goes, i purchased a stock honda gx200 and then started purchasing the go fast bits off the net from different suppliers,, if you get onto various forums for go karts and minibikes and "do-it-yourselfers" they usually have all sorts of info regarding these engines and all sorts of questions get asked and answered by guys who have built engines and bikes before,, if you need to know specifics on my bike when you get to that stage let me know,, i will be glad to help. look forward to seeing what you come up with,, should be good, cheers man.

yea i hear ya, thought about that once and realized, who am i kidding, the amount of work in this bike is mind boggling, very labour intensive , in order to complete it you have to commit to it, it took over 12 months from start to finish, and an extra 2 weeks after shakedown, to make and sell these would not be cost effective, and to make it cost effective, it would be rubbish.

@@FraJa1980 yeah, but it's different with the cobra since you can't see the engine. Basically what I'm saying is: if you paint "Indian" on the tank, it's a bad Indian bike replica. If you paint "Honda" on the tank, it's a custom board tracker built on a Honda base. Bike modification offers you more possibilities than car mods for obvious reasons.

@@varun009 Ok the Cobra maybe isn't the best example..... how about those 32 ford replicas? They're still badged as Fords and sometimes they don't have a hood to hide anything so we see a Chevy engine. I get what your saying and in a way i even agree with you because a custom honda board tracker would be just as cool but the point i'm trying to make is that this homebuilt stuff you can do whatever you want as long as you're having fun with the budget you have and if your budget doesn't allow for an Indian engine in your "dream" indian bike then why not? You could always swap it out later, engine swap is easier than repainting it i.m.o.. But hey to each his opinion.

@@FraJa1980 when it comes to hot rodding, I think the last thing hotrodders want people to think is that they're driving a stock vehicle. Here it's about making a replica. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the right base bike. As I said, given those circumstances, you're faced with a cool custom board tracker or a cheap ripoff. I'm not disputing his right to do what he wants to his bike, just questioning his reasoning. I really don't know where you think his ability to do it has any bearing on whether he should. Finally, replacing the engine is objectively more difficult if you wanna do it right. Japanese and American engines differ in their mounting positions between manufacturers and between models of any given manufacturer.

​@@varun009 You question his reasoning ... Well, i can answer that question....... Indian is much, much cooler than Honda even if it's a cheap ripoff. Guys building Ferraris on Pontiac Fiero frames don't badge them as Pontiacs because it just isn't as cool. Let's be honest here for a second yeah, how many people really know about these bikes that you meet regularly? You don't build these bikes or replicas to impress purists who can pick it apart..... it's the "casual" who doesn't know everything but would just as easy snub his nose at a Honda no matter how hard you worked on it just because it is "cheap" yet now is super interested because they know Indians are old. And if you happen to be one of those people who just loves the Indian brand but can't afford to do your dream bike the right way you might as well get as close as you can. If this should be done right there would be A LOT of changes needed, correct engine, correct frame, correct front suspension, seat, wheels, no brakes, and controls etc etc .... and i agree that IS what the word "Replica" should mean whilst what this guy built is could/should be called a "tribute" more than a real replica. I don't know, i guess since you'd only have to paint the tank you could be right unless you'd also want the correct red colour.
