Exactly how far will one tank of fuel take your #PowerPlus Challenger or Harley Davidson Road Glide. We run all three bikes dry trying to see who can go farther AND show you exactly when you'll run out of gas.
My #powerPlus108 va a #117ci and a #122ci Harley Davidson engines.

Wasn’t trying to conserve, was just setting a baseline that everyone was aware of. If I was conserving we would have done exactly the speed limit but that’s not a realistic benchmark for most people so we averaged about 77 mph.

What a coincidence you dropping this video after just yesterday myself and a friend ran down to Gainesville so he could get his break in service done on his new road glide. We started out by topping off our tanks at that Circle K next to Farmhouse Restaurant and made it all the way down and back before we filled up again. My Chief only took 3.6 gallons to fill back up. 182 miles round trip. It’s amazing how far technology has brought us…..well in regards to some things 🤪🤪🤪. That looked like it was an awesome day my friend 🤘😎🤙

Nice! I ran out on the PA Turnpike once, my Roadmaster gauges lied to me some how. Best I have seen is factoring the instant MPG and miles traveled because my low fuel light comes on way too early. I don't know if I could get as far as you guys did before running out, but I can get 40 mpg at close to 80 on the 111 motor around 3k rpm. Love these machines!

I noticed this recently when my challenger was down to 30 miles range, rode another 15 before filling it up, and it only took 5 gallons, so it's clearly pretty conservative in its range calculations. Funny thing is mine is averaging 42 mpg riding in the mountains of Utah, frequently climbing a mile or more per trip, but somehow yours says 38 riding across FL. I would expect it to be much more efficient on such flat roads. Though my mountain trips are not at 75+ mph so that may be the difference

You have to factor in..the accuracy of the fuel pump...and the tank manufacturer 6 GA. Mark..which is never right at the top on any type of vehicle..good video though..going 65 to 70 would increase that mpg ..but is very difficult on today's interstates..as the flow is 75 to 80..even in the 55 zones..i know this beautiful interstate system and most state hwys systems in America..as I was OTR..for 21 years..with 3.1 million miles on the clock when I retired 4 months ago..

6 gallons at 40-45 mpg. That's about where you should be. I'm inspired to do one with my 2022 pursuit, but I have a stage 2 and a lloydz tune so it might not do as well. I'm also at 4200' elevation in utah, so there's that. I was in New hampshire last month and a noticed an increase in power at lower elevation. I expect that helps with the mpg too, but you said yours was 39 mpg.

Good points. One thing my buddies pointed out later was that their fuel range was far more accurate for a longer period. Like when Jason ran out he was given a 10 mile warning and when it hit zero he was done. Tony said basically the same but obviously his smaller bore gave him more range

All beautiful bikes. Do you think the Indian is a better overall bike than the Harley?
@TwoIndians
@TwoIndians Жыл бұрын
There are pros and cons to each one. The Indians have a better ride and more comfort and more power (at least in the Challenger) in stock form right off the showroom. The Harley’s have better paint (by a mile) and better tech (in some aspects) and have far more variety. Harley has more aftermarket options but Indian is catching up very quick. When I bought my first Indian I compared the Road King to the Springfield and there was not even a comparison. To answer your question, my opinion, is that yes, they are better bikes.

Hey. I'm considering buying a Challenger Dark Horse. I like it over the Chieftain, because it's water cooled, but I don't really like the big fairing of the Challenger. I have an idea of changing the fairing to the one that's on the Chieftain. Considering they have pretty much the same electronics, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just have figure out how to mount it. What do you think?
@TwoIndians
@TwoIndians 6 ай бұрын
One is frame mounted and one is fork mounted, I wouldn’t even begin to recommend that. I was up in the air about the fairing myself TBH but once you get in the seat you don’t care how big it is. It’s an amazing bike and I highly recommend.
@_nopestr

@@TwoIndiansWow, thanks for replying! Yeah, I know the Chieftain fairing is fork mounted, but I didn't think it would be much of an issue, other than figuring out how to mount it - I'm pretty sure the fork and its angle are similar. I do know that the handling at higher speeds might be affected, but I'm not sure how big of a difference that would really be. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation! I'm going through your Challenger videos right now, and now I have no doubt that it's a right bike for me. Thank you!

@@TwoIndians Don't do that 😁. Don't give me hope 😁. But, seriously, I would love that. That being said, I'm not a typical bagger guy, to be honest. For example - I don't like the speakers in the fairing. Maybe use the Challenger cubbies somehow.

There is no comparison. The Indian is far superior main because its a fully liquid cooled and fully counter balanced engine period. Also the Indian has a gear drive primary and single hole oil fill and drainage. Harley Davidson has gotten way better after 2017 with the M8 platform but their Revolution Max engine platform needs to take center stage.

A few people have made similar comments but the reality is that no manufacturer is going to release a product that’s gonna knowingly fail on the probability of running out of gas. I mean it’s just crazy to assume that simple act will cause a failure. Would sit there and continually crank the motor with no fuel? Of course not. Running out of gas is not some wild crazy scenario.

Running your bike low on fuel isn't really bad on the engine, but it is absolutely terrible for the fuel pump and you better hope your fuel filter is in good shape otherwise you'll suck up dirt snd clog up your fuel injectors. Looks like it was a fun day trip, though.

@@Thesaurcery4U2C You don't think you don't get a little bit of dirt from time to time from the gas pump or if you take your gas cap off when it is windy outside. Maybe where you live it isn't that windy or dirty but here in the midwest the windy blows daily which blows up a lot of dirt.

Won't hurt the engine running it dry but it's very bad for an EFI fuel pump

So if the the bike shuts down isn’t that protecting the fuel pump? Curious about how damaging it really is to have an electric pump running for less than 20 seconds with no fuel. I mean it’s not like it’s a catastrophic failure right?

I think Indian wants you to read low and 0 when the fuel pump becomes exposed... You run it dry and the last 40 miles you have a red hot fuel pump in that tank..

Explain to me how having a gallon and a half of fuel is running it dry?
@lancmac

Anytime the submerged fuel pump is not submerged it will start to overheat. Fuel in the tank cools it. Run the fuel totally out and you have one HOT fuel pump...@@TwoIndians

I'd be more worried about your fuel pump burning up instead of your engine, when a fuel pump doesn't have fuel, it's sucking air and overheating.
@TwoIndians
@TwoIndians Жыл бұрын
youre the second person to mention this and I appreciate your concern but as soon as soon as the fuel ran out the bike shut down and I'd be willing to bet the pump is resilient enough to with stand about 10 seconds of intermittent air/fuel vacuum.

@Michael Bell if it were boosted or a high horsepower build id agree, but in this case the engine would shut off due to lack of fuel before enough heat could build up in the fuel pump to damage it. Only takes a few moments to run out of fuel. Now if he ran his bike dry once a week, then thats a different story 🤘 cheers mate ride safe
