One of my favorite songs by Elton. Very underrated. He did a great John Lennon tribute called “Johnny’s garden”

It's actually called "Empty Garden" :)

Maybe my favorite Elton John song. A masterpiece, in my humble opinion.

Maybe mine too. And that says so much because him and Bernie have so many wonderful songs.

It’s a love letter to NYC, and specifically Manhattan.. With its hoboes with trash can dreams, no trees because of the concrete (except in the park), and buildings that block out the Sun.. The Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatters are the 3rd shift, in business and sin.. They give the City that Never Sleeps its reputation.. It’s a great song..

Another beautiful number in which Bernie & Elton express gratitude for other people is "Friends", the title track on the soundtrack for the movie of the same title. If you want a rocking-rolling upbeat track, the same album offers you "Can I Put You On?".

Bernie Taupin is one of the most cinematic lyricist in music. Sometimes I do not understand the complete story. But his lyrics make be able to understand the word pictures that he paints so eloquently.

I read somewhere that EJ performed this song at the Concert for New York City shortly after 9-11. In his introductory remarks, he said it was one of his favorites...

Just an absolutely perfect song. I loved your reaction! It always amazes me that Bernie Taupin’s lyrics along with Elton John’s music fit together so stunningly perfect. Gorgeous❤️

One of my top songs. It is well known that the phrase “as mad as a hatter” originated because the people who made hats often appeared mad as a result of the mercury used in their manufacture. The fur of small animals was treated with a solution of mercury (II) nitrate, and then heated in an oven.I still have the great album Honky Chateau.

Thank you for reviewing this. One of my favorites and I have mentioned it to you before. Namaste! Be well and safe. I really appreciate your videos.

I think this song is about the homeless people who live on the NYC subways (but its open to other interpretations). Davey Johnstone, from his regular band, plays the mandolin...This song is from the same album as 'Rocketman' (Honky Chateau - 1972). Beautiful lyrics by Bernie Taupin...

Thank you for doing this reaction. One of my all time favorite songs.

Bear in mind that the poetic lyrics are by Bernie Taupin, and sonic choices, such as the use of mandolin, are more often than not from producer Gus Dudgeon. Dudgeon produced Elton's albums and singles from 1970 through 1976 at least; in any case, Gus was responsible for the sound of the Elton John band's greatest dozen records.

One of my early Elton John favorites. Don't understand why this song was not a huge hit. I used to play this song on repeat when I was younger

I love the insights you bring to the music you pick. Many reactors are going towards reacting to movies as well. Have you thought about getting into this area? With your counseling backgrounds, I would love to see you react to "Good Will Hunting" with Matt Damon, Ben Afleck, and Robin Williams.

This is in the movie Almost Famous where she overdoses. I always thought Elton John was the greatest artist of the late 60s and 70's, after that he went a little too poppy for me. Mostly 70 to 77, I think he had one album in the late 60s.
