The annual wage for a rural Indian man is 14,000 rupees, which is about 175 dollars. Four thousand dollars is equivalent to 22 years of work for a day laborer.

For a bit more reference, though I'm not Indian but more- Indian-adjactent, I guess, but I don't think there's too much different between the currencies- anyways- 4000 dollars - or, as the article says 300k rupees - is enough for a middle/high-middle class family for a month plus have enough for some savings, I think. Not bad at all, they probably did turn a profit, but dunno by how much. If those suits were really imitations of actual players' outfits, they can't have been too cheap.

For the Chess robot news: the robot was removing a piece from the board before moving its piece to take that location. The kid seems to have then moved another piece to the same location, before the robot could finish moving its piece to take the square. When the robot saw a piece was still at the location, it figured it hadn't removed the piece, so it tried again to remove the piece there. The kid had his hand on the piece, so the robot grabbed the finger at the same time. TLDR; the kid tried to move a piece while the robot was clearing the board and the robot grabbed a piece the kid had just moved.

@@anononomous Thats actually a super hard problem which we are yet to solve. Humans have tactile feedback when we grab stuff. We can manipulate objects with no visual feedback, this allows us to have great spatial perception and regulate our grip strength. If you anaesthetise someones hand they can't strike a match for example because we rely on that feedback so much. Currently robots basically purely rely on vision (light spectrum, infrared, etc). This works far better than our vision but as a complete system isn't as good as our full array of senses. When we discover an accurate and cost-effective way to implement tactile touch then there will be another huge revolution in robotics. It will allow robots to work in home environments safely, they will be able to prepare food and do basically anything a human can physically. The food thing is where basically all the funding for research comes from as a machine that can make sandwiches or put cherries on cakes would allow the food industry to be completely automated. Currently, it's one of the few industries which has been largely unaffected by robotic advancements (there are machines but it's nothing like what the car industry or other similar industries use).

Jake is still considered by the fans in Denver to be one of the best quarterbacks we have ever had. Both on and off the field, for Denver, he was terrific. Usually it's like Coconut husks or even certain bird seed or hay/manure combo in the bag and you sterilize the bag and then inject spores or a liquid culture, of mycelium, into the bag. Mycelium, is the white stuff that grows in the bag and eats the substrate. The mushrooms are fruits from the mycelium. You can actually get the mycelium to fruit mushrooms multiple times. Large commercial grows for food are often done in caves where the mycelium is broken up and mycelium is the spread around a larger box filled with more food/substrate and grow to fill the entire box. Workers pick the mushroom, cover it up a bit again with substrate and wait for another grow. The picking process and regrowth can happen multiple times.

Lewis knows about as much about betting as I do - which is to say: fuck all - but I work in pubs in Australia and it was slightly funny to me how naive Lewis was about what people will bet on. Like, gamblers will really bet on anything, knowing anything about it is not a requirement at all. If they can throw $50 at it and have a rough idea of the odds, they’ll get the thrill they’re after from it .
