Owned one for just other a year, my first "big bike" here in the UK. 2020 Carbon model with a decat. Its insanely loud and I always get people coming up and asking about it and normally in new ride out i get told "the exhaust sounds amazing and it looks so special" i guess this thing isn't about massive power hungry fans and more just for the ride and looks. I will look at changing it next year when the insurance comes down mainly because ive owned two bikes so i just want to try more options thats the only reason to sell it. Not because i'm unhappy with it. Just ticked over 10,000 miles and 7500 of them are mine

That's not a comparison. Mt10 is a different category. People know this yet still bring it up. Mt09 is more the same spec as the FTR. No one uses either one of those bikes in racing. They have no proven record.
@redrum5.0_ Жыл бұрын
i don’t need to see them in club racing to know a bike that’s 70 lbs lighter with better suspension, brakes and frame with 40 more hp is a higher performer and the price is almost exactly the same, the ftr is only $500 less than an mt10
@-ihad2clipem-429 Жыл бұрын
@@redrum5.0_ That's where you'll be disappointed if that bike was in club racing. There's a reason why it's not used. The handling sucks on mt10/mt09. Those are for street glory. You put a quick shift on a FTR it will out drag a mt10 to 100mph. After that the mt10 has the advantage. It's geared differently.

If you haven't already seen it FortNine made an interesting video based around the FTR 1200s model in their most beautiful motorcycle video, and there was a reference to the FTR at the end of their How Indian Makes 43% More Power video. I think those give me a bit of a positive perspective on the idea for the bike even if the practical riding experience isn't great. Both are great videos anyway and are well worth a watch.

I had a 2019 FTR. Loved it. Sure it had flaws, but it was a riot. Rented a new XSR 900 in Seattle and it was insanely fun too, sure, but lacked that aggressive feeling the FTR had. Can’t speak as to how an MT-10 would feel, but I love the way FTRs make power. Not super fast bikes, pegged mine at 148, but they get to 100 stupidly fast.

As someone who has never ridden an FTR, and ridden far fewer bikes than you, I also agree that it's a bike the doesn't necessarily make a whole lot of sense. It's always struck me as a very fun, cool bike, but one that realistically has not practical place. I love that it exists, but it's out-performed in pretty much any category you'd conceivably place it in. Were I a wealthy man, I'd buy one, but only after I had purchased 9 or 10 other bikes... Once again, a really great, no-nonsense review... Thanks for the work you put into these. Can't wait to see your take on the new V-Strom 800 DE, as that's a bike I'm actually considering purchasing.

The FTR doesn’t make sense with it’s current config of lowered suspension and 17” wheels. Plenty better value 4 money and ride performance options available. H/E it did make a whole lot of sense in it’s original configuration with 150mm suspension Flat Track 19” front and 18” rear wheels. THEN it’s super unique and the easily unstuck rear is pure fun for the not faint at heart, it’s a magnificent US unique version of Supermoto. And very comfy, too. I even gladly Tour on my Championship edition. Unfortunately Indian listened to all it’s idiot customers who did not understand the initial bike and were wining everywhere that they wanted to change to 17” wheels yadda yadda yadda. I very much like Schaaf’s matter of fact, no nonsense review conclusions. Cheers
