While the remaining branches are now waking up to indigenous production, navy had this sorted out long ago. It handheld and worked with Indian PSUs and private sector to get what they want(most of the times). The way Sea Guardian drones, Smash 2000 and P8i Poseidon were planned for shows the forward thinking of Navy. On a separate note, I wish the Indian government ensures that defence ministry is controlled by the armed forces instead of babus who have zero expertise in military..

Should make Kamorta class destroyer a multirole corvette by adding 8 anti ship missiles in canisters. If not Brahmos we can scout for lighter option like Kongsberg NSM, Harpoon or Exocet

Kamorta Class corvettes is a waste of money in current form, 397 million dollars with no SAM,outdated RBU rockets & AK630 with Vikhr Missiles upgrade. Kamorta Class corvettes with 3500 tonnes & just 6000km range & 46km/hr speed,it's underarmed & inadequately protected compared to 22160 patrol ship of Russia with 9-10 times the price of those. Better to convert Kamorta Class Designs to Light Frigates With change in propulsion for better range & speed. Additional of 16 VLS tubes for 4×4 Barak 8ER configuration for 4 VLS cells. 4×8 VL Astra with range of 30km for 8 VLS cells 2×4 cells for Bramhos in 4 VLS cells 4 Quadpacked Inclined Launchers for DRDO Smart Torpedoes for 16 units replacing 2 RBU unguided rockets. Upgrade of AK630 with Vikhr Missile upgrade with 8 cell module for each CIWS with range of 10km. So,2 AK 630 will hold 16 Vikhr Missiles with guns along with 48 units as storage under deck as surplus units for both. Existing 2× Triple cell Torpedo tubes. Radar will be MF Star 2248 Corvette variant with range of 250km.

Felt good to see Navy doing good in terms of planning. Otherwise we have so slow progress in Army and Airforce. Worst is Army which I guess is still in late 90s or early 2001-2 years in terms of planning. No focus on advance warfare such as cyber capabilities, snail's pace in procurement. Too much of testing , RFI based approach se 17000 times testing. Available technology also being tested too many times, example ATAGS.

Fun fact Year 2030, Uk+France combined will have 3 Carriers, 21 Submarines, 34 Destroyers/Frigates, 0 Corvettes. The Indian Navy alone will have 2 Carriers, 23 Submarines, 37 Destroyers/Frigates, atleast 22 Corvettes PS - I counted Kamorta among Frigates. One reason its not fully equipped is to keep its endurance high so it can travel with the Carrier Battle Group thousands of kms away without refuelling and be a dedicated ASW warship for the battle group.

Why do Indian ships have less vertical launch tubes compared to their size?

Because India's each vls missiles carry more weight compared to western countries, for example USA's tomohawk weighs 1200kg whereas each brahmos weighs 3000 kg and if you compare this with vls India's 16 vls brahmos are equivalent to America's 40 vls tomohawk, so our warships are equally loaded.

@@shorts-term473 brahmos is a supersonic missile used by India while tomohawk is a subsonic missile. In comparison brahmos is far better and lethal than tomohawk in speed and accuracy

1 Brahmos is equal to many world class 3 cruise missiles.1 Brahmos can tear apart a destroyer easily.For that u need 7-8 tomahawk or 3 Israeli or French cruise missiles.
