I went to an Indian slum for a survey for my subject, and found a family of two dependant on 750 INR earned per month by the woman, from working as a maid. Funny thing is, she took me inside her house, chatted for a long time and offered me lunch, knowing fully well that she'd have to go hungry if I agreed to have it. In the end she ended up coercing me to take some of her sweet plum achaar along instead of a full blown lunch. She had no obligation to talk to me or be so kind, but she was. And then there is us, who chase off salesmen for disturbing our siesta. I am honestly ashamed. Edit : I do not understand what part of my comment conveyed that I went somewhere in Mumbai, but no, darlings. It is a remote town in West Bengal with little population, and very little money in the pockets of the people. Neither do I know why you guys are bashing me as an American. I am Indian????
