I've no idea what they were thinking with the sportster s. The way the bike sits is great but the engine looks good only on one side, the exhaust is an atrocity and the headlight looks like a yamaha mutant experiment. What the hell harley.

You know Mike, I love your question and I like the fact that you ask people to be respectful and not be children about their comments. For me, I'm a fairly new rider; I'm not a mechanic, don't know anything about engines, but I am learning (KZbin University, You and Sonny), so based on that all I have is the feel of the limited bikes that I have ridden both Harley and Indian. The one the fits best of the two brands is the Indian, with that said, I own a Kawasaki. Great video, always learning something from you.

My take is that Indian is just trying to gain a little market share of the popular dyna club style and the scout is an easy platform to make that happen with. I don't think Indian's intent with the scout rogue is to compete with any current HD model especially the sportster s. Indian has the FTR to put the sportster s in its place performance wise. On a side note, I really like the looks of the 2022 scout sixty in storm blue, very nice to my eye.

For me the limiting factors are comfort and my size. I am 6' 5" tall 290 pounds with a 33 inseam. Except for the Pan America I have not yet found a Harley I fit on comfortably even with extensive notifications. I have not had that problem with either Victory or Indian except for the Scout and maybe the New Chief. What has impressed about both Victory and Indian is their reliability and ease of maintenance. I have no bones to pick with HD. I just find Indian more feature rich and rideable stock off the floor.

Hello Mike, for some reasons, nowadays, especially here on internet, people tend to be harsh towards those who have different opinions. It's kinda crazy because what would be a free zone for a hi flow of informations and ideas became such a nasty battlefield. I think the real agreement happens when both sides of a question are capable to honestly see what is valid on the arguments of both "contenders". When such "magic" happens, everybody is, somehow, a winner. I mean, even that point of view that eventualy does not "arrives in first" wins something because even that one becomes richer, more profound and, in that sense, better. It's very, very good to listen to someone open to a respectful discussion like you, especially on a subject so emotionally sensitive as motorcycles. Congrats from a fellow biker here in Brazil. Peace to everyone and let's ride! ✌

Great video as ever, Mike - and you make good points about how we can compare and contrast respectfully. I've had my standard Scout since new in 2017 and the only bike that it'd be worth me changing it out for is the Sportster S - and that's largely on digging the styling. I don't think I could ride either bike faster but hey - these ARE cruisers. The competition is good for both brands and good for riders.

I'd still choose the Iron 1200. I want a fuel injected, air cooled, mini-ape handlebars, fork gaiters, mid or forward controls, solo seat, cafe cowl, mag wheels. I dig the black with red/white/blue paint scheme. I don't want or need a 6th gear or high power. I want a "leisurely Sunday afternoon cruise" motorcycle. Super easy to modify or repair. Tons of aftermarket support. All I would have to do is put forward controls on it.

I can understand how a dealer experience can make or break how a person feels about a brand. When I bought my first Harley I had an incredibly good experience but when I bought this last one from a different dealer in my new town the experience was terrible and I walked out before buying the bike. It wasn't until someone higher up the food chain came out to the parking lot and talked me into coming back inside and promised I would deal with a different salesperson that I actually went back inside and was able to strike a deal.

I have been a past owner of a few Harleys for many years and I will say that Indian motorcycle is on the War Path and with a purpose! Their Motorcycles have made a big comeback from past failures. I presently own an Indian motorcycle and my Honest opinion, it has definitely changed its way of producing motorcycles and they are much better than what Harley is putting out. I will stay with Indian because quality,pricing and style is spot on! I have 45yrs of riding experience! So in my humble opinion, The Tribe is Back! Go Indian Motorcycles 🏍 PS these comparisons and conversations are now happening! Because the Biker world 🌎 has taken notice of the New Bad Boy in Town ( Indian Motorcycles )

Man, I would no doubt be riding an Indian right now instead of a Harley if they had a somewhat decent dealership experience here in Tulsa Oklahoma where I live……but they don’t. It was actually a terrible experience for me anyway. They had two Indian motorcycles in the showroom that also houses bmw and Honda bikes. As well as Polaris of course. Both bikes were big, heavy, expensive, motorcycles for an experienced rider and I was brand new looking for my first bike. I couldn’t even get anyone off their phones to help me out and at least point me in the right direction. All the while my wife is chomping at the bit to go look at some Harleys because in her mind that’s what a motorcycle is, a Harley Davidson. Well, we went and looked and rode and bought and they delivered my new Harley Davidson that same night. That was October 2020 and I just went in February and got my second Harley Davidson., a FXLRS. So Indian might make some great bikes, but I wouldn’t know because of a bad dealership experience? That’s fine with me however because I believe things work out for a reason. Another loyal Harley Davidson owner was born that night.

Yamaha was a great bike, in 2002 my wife and i went out and got a pair of Yamaha v-star's, she got the 650 and i got the 1100, we got rid of them in early 2021 during the Pandemic and actually got as much for them as we paid new and owned then for almost 20 years. Indian was nice but dealer support was poor along with limited amount of performance parts. As you can see, i am all in Harley now

It's almost even with me between the Rogue and Iron 883. I love the simplicity and reliability of the Evo Sportster but I THINK I would like the ergonomics of the Rogue better. I am not a fan of the new Sportster design. I like gas in my gas tank instead of a dummy tank and a plastic container taking its place under my seat. Old school I guess. New rider here. 6’ , 265 lbs. think i would dwarf a scout rogue. I have ZERO riding experience. I know the lighter bike is easier to learn on, but the softail standard isn’t much more money than a comparable scout in terms of value, that I fit better on. I think forward controls would eventually be more comfy after initially learning. But the kid’s may be a pro in the short term. I prefer to buy new (newer) and know the bike is safe and reliable. I eventually would like to have a bagger like a street glide one day, so going with the Harley may build a potential future relationship with the dealer to get a bike in the future. I have a few weeks until my MSF course, so I still have time to decide.

Thanks goodness that these manufactures are bringing water cooled engines to the market, where I live it gets 110deg in the summer. Those air cooled, and your butt get smoking hot.. LOL

I think if the 975 does well they will eventually give it the 1250 treatment too, the Sportster S has a more limited customer base because of the Ergos. I think the challenge is Torque from this RevMax motor, The PA feels different and that is okay on that Bike but on a cruiser HD is expected to have that torquey pull and that is why the Sportster S gave up some HP to get better Tq in the mid range. The scout engine is the same way, so HD can get away with it more in the Sportster Range, when they try and bring this to baggers I think we are going to see a bigger engine with different tuning to get the TQ up.

I personally have a 2004 Honda VTX1300c. are these new 1100's and 1200's performing better on the freeway than these 20yr old bikes? (IE, its not screaming at 70mph)
@RidingintheOzarks
@RidingintheOzarks 2 жыл бұрын
I have ridden the Rebel 1100 and 1200 and I would say the Rebel is fine, the 1200 is okay at 70 but it is a 5 speed with a lower RPM range still. I expect the new Sportster to be a much better for that with higher rev range and 6 speed gear box.
@tinman3586
@tinman3586 2 жыл бұрын
By objective preformance standards neither one is overly impressive (unless you're talking about a Rex Max 1250 engine) . The Rebel 1100 blows both of them out of the water and comes in cheaper too. The Indian Scout Rogue has great styling but they're missing the mark with the outdated gauges and lack of features.

I have rode the Rebel and it has its own flaws, fit and finish leaves something to be desired and ergonomics for me were less desirable as well, it is all a matter of what fits you and what you value in a ride…

@@jbradkilpatrick I have been experimenting with insta go 2 but it has very limited battery and storage, depending on how much you want to record it might be an option. The hero isn’t flush, it’s about an inch square but definitely lower profile than the go pro hero cameras, if you look at some videos I made late summer early fall you can find me riding with the insta 360 it is small and attaches to my ball cap

@@RidingintheOzarks I think it will be around the same price as the scout. Power around the same if not a little less. The bike we see in your video is a good looking bike which I believe compares more to the scout than the sportster s. Indian sells a lot of scouts (I used to sell them) the rogue will do well. The new sportster will also be a hit.
