Dial of Destiny has received a lot of negative press, at least among KZbin critics. Does this mean the movie is bad? Or is it merely the victim of a culture war?

That is true. It didn't need the following two. But i do still think this one is great. Crystal Skull, well, i loved it at 15 years of age when it was in the cinema and i haven't watched it since. But it does have all the trappings 2005+ era of overexcited, less-would-have-been-more-cinema. This one mostly consists of a prolongued car chase, but that's ok for me. Not the best Indi movie for sure. Not one we'd have needed. But also not one i would exclude from an Indiana Jones Marathon.

i saw a comment in his video about Millenial Writing that perfectly sums this up, the comment quoted Billy Joel who once said "I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary." people are so completely starved of actual quality writing in things like movies and video games that the second something has even a smudge of effort put into it they praise it as some sort of masterpiece, when really its usually just ok. For example, look at "Everything, Everywhere, all at once". Now dont get me wrong, the movie is pretty solid and I had an decent time watching it, as did many other people, solid 6-7/10 movie, but HOLY FUCK did people overhype it to death, they made it seem like it was the sci-fi equivalent of the Godfather or something.

I don't understand this thing where people say "it's good that it has a definitive ending to the character," maybe because it's better than Crystal Skull. Okay, why do we need three definitive endings? It ended with Last Crusade already. Saying it's better than the second redundant ending (which a lot of people don't even agree with) is pointless.

You deflected about the reshoots and leaks debacle but failed to mention that this movie has been in production for like 6 years and has been set back for release multiple times... Because they did have negative feedback and did have to reshoot. They wouldn't have without the prior pushback from the leaks. Bro way to hand wave away a huge part of the film...

Very funny you makes this in 'Oh well it's just nerds getting upset over media made for kids lol!'... dude your whole channel is about Halo: A video game franchise that is mostly played by teens/kids... believe it or not those are the ones who have the time to invest in stuff like games. It's also a contrived film with a very humorless secondary actress that is supposed to carry the torch. Many issues get resolved because 'Oh I remembered the important bits' or because of some other stupid coincidences from her. And there's a lot. You admit it wasn't a very funny film but there's too many times where things are delivered as a joke and they fall absolutely flat. Your thesis is that this movie is actually good. But it's not. It has some good parts maybe.. but it's filled with terrible humor and plot issues. Just admit you're a fan and that it. You don't care about any actual fucking 'good' or 'bad' things nor what makes said films either option just your first watch through opinion of the film. Unconvincing and contradictory evidence bucko. Video: 4/10 not a huge cope but still an effort was made. You try to hedge some bets with some weasely words 'its a good movie with some flaws'... Ok how many and how important are they? If the main character beats the bad guy with a weapon that he pulled out of his ass in a serious movie where he never had the weapon nor was there one mentioned the whole time - then that's a pretty huge flaw and ruins an otherwise good movie. It becomes mediocre or even bad depending on how big of an ass pull it was. Please think more about this.

To be fair, delays might imply reshoots, but it doesn't necessarily prove the existence of reshoots. Without further information, there could've been any reason for the delays. For all we know, they could've been stuck in pre-production for much of that time, I guess it just depends on how much faith you'd want to put into these leaks. Like he said near the end of the video, he thinks that the drama of Indy being shot might imply a change in the making of the film, and I myself would say that the resolution where Helena drags Indy back to the present makes me suspect that there was a rewrite. Even still, I don't think any of this is per se nota, we're still in the realm of guesswork.
@kingofthegutter8259
@kingofthegutter8259 9 ай бұрын
@@TharcThuncBa but if you know how Disney does films and how they started making them recently you'd know they do what's called 'scrap booking' which is essentially like making 5 different movies to stitch scenes together from anyone of them according to audience approval. I've heard here and there that the movie isn't as bad as what some people have said, but Disney/Lucasfilm hasn't exactly been endearing itself to the public for the past several years. Also, one of the major questions I've heard people bring up about the film is, who was it made for? I think its failure at the box office isn't so much a case of people being actively against the studio, so much as simply indifferent towards the characters and premise. How many young people did they think were going to want to see an 81-year-old man hobbling around in front of a green screen for three hours? The film's budget clearly depended on more than just old-school fans going to see it, and therefore it was doomed from the very start.

I know ShreddedNerd doesn't agree that Indy is disrespected throughout the movie or that PWB isn't a girlboss "modern female" character, but I and many other people, would have to disagree. I'd just ask people one question regarding this movie: "Could you see this getting made exactly the same way it is, back in 2003?" It REEKS of "made to appeal to modern audiences" crap. Did we all watch the same movie here?

So basically it's not that it's a bad film, merely a somewhat mediocre one that has few if any real redeeming qualities. A significant portion of this review highits something important: a lot of your "praise" for it essentially boils down to "here's how the movie could have been way worse, but thankfully they didn't do that" which is pretty telling. I'm not suggesting that's wrong to point out but it does speak volumes of how little in the film is actually noteworthy and worth praising, and instead it's pretty much just "not as bad as it could have been." Yes, it could have been worse. Thankfully it wasn't a terrible film that forever tarnished the legacy of Jones as a capstone to the series, as yet another property that Disney ruined. But it also could have been a lot better. At this point if Disney didn't make it an absolute knockout that would genuinely surprise people with real quality that they honestly liked, then people were always going to hate it. Audiences are done giving Disney any money for anything less than a stellar product. People and reviews have gotten sick of it all, and a movie that's "just okay" is not going to win them back.

I will always remember one of my favorite quotes from the books, when Han Solo's son (the real one, not the Adam Driver knockoff) is in a situation where he doesn't know what to do because his Jedi teachings don't apply to a moral grey area: “When you always know what is right, where is freedom? Some feel compelled to voice their opinion on every new piece of garbage media, opinions which although not incorrect aren't necessary; it's much better to avoid thinking about trash altogether. Such complaining is endemic to Twitter, and makes it easy to figure who uses Twitter based on what is brought up in conversation. I won't watch the movie either way, as I have no need for it. Even if you're annoyed at the culture war stuff, if you went in with the objective of figuring out how it's not culture war related, you're also biased. There are certainly people in the middle like myself who were cautious and just decided not to see it because it didn't sound good, and the culture war videos were just a means to figuring that out. Getting past old depressed Indy and Phoebe, it sounded like all the action setpieces, which are what you watch these movies for, were simple repetitive vehicle chases. "Well, what do you expect? He's old!" Okay then, don't make the movie! The movie bombed. If it were actually good, it could have generated good word of mouth and become really big, but it didn't. Anti-woke people or not.

I appreciate the attempt at breaking the mold. I think the review could have used some more organization. Much of it feels like a response video to no one in particular. I've seen several critical breakdowns of this movie that cover the issues with its writing in great detail, so I've feel like I've got a good point of reference after seeing both sides. To describe the experience, it's like reading a few reviews of a table that go over how its legs are uneven, its surface gives people splinters, and it collapses under more than 10 pounds of weight. Then you read this review that says, "I've seen people saying this table has fewer than four legs. It's just not true. The legs might be uneven, but there are four of them." The number of legs on the table isn't what convinced me it's a bad table, and the review even partly agrees with the reviews that convinced me. It makes it difficult to be convinced in the other direction. I also find it unconvincing that people who review the film poorly were simply hoping for it to be bad. Bulverism aside, the example KZbin title in this video stating this movie was destined to flop was from The Critical Drinker, who has reversed his perspective several times after watching a movie or show despite expecting it to be bad or underwhelming. It happened with Prey, Arcane, Andor, Picard season 3, and House of the Dragon, to give the most recent examples. This is also true for many in Drinker's circle, which is why I find it hard to believe. I don't take issue with the claim that the movie is good, and I'm sure you're responding to arguments you've actually heard. The main issue I see is that the arguments you are attacking are weak, which make your counterarguments feel weak. The most convincing "actually this movie is good' videos I've seen are the ones that tackle the strongest arguments.

You know, I have the same feeling like you do here in your video. With The Matrix Resurrections. People unloaded so much shit on it, that I was thinking it is the same trash as the third Star Wars Trilogy is(of which I only seen Episode 7) and I was pleasant surprised how good Matrix 4 actually is. Considered the fact that the storyline of the Matrix Trilogy is finished, there is nothing you could add to it, save the fact that the fate of Neo and Trinity was left open in part three. The Matrix Resurrections makes it look like the whole Matrix Trilogy is made up, a story in a Video Game of all things. Seeing it's ending I felt like they might have been put into the matrix in order for the physical damage both sustained at the end of Matrix 3 being healed, and while in there their minds experience another adventure, which was fine for he most part. The movie was not a "waste of time" to watch, though it didn't have had much to do with the original Trilogy.

>I'm not getting many clicks and I'm Tired of Pretending it's Not clickbait Fixed that for you friend. I bet you also love Indiana part 4 and the new star wars movies. Did you know they've been doing disney live action remakes? They're straight 🔥 right up your alley. There's this new show it's kind of hard to catch but it's called Willow and you would just love the "milk" that he gives you.

I thought it was pretty solid. My main problem is that Shortround wasn’t in it, and Marian was only in one scene. I feel like some people take the movie too seriously, and overreact about it. It’s a solid movie, not bad, but also not that great either. I’d definitely call it the weakest Indy movie, but it’s not a bad movie.
