This build is a great example of what a well of souls set wouldve looked like if it were made into a diorama set, like the idol grab set with the black base and plaque with a quote, for the well of souls it would obviously be “Snakes? Why did it have to be snakes?”

Fun fact: lego tomb raider was an actual planned IP lego almost acquired as an idea for a Lego video game after the lego Star Wars games. It was proposed to have tomb raider sets and a video game but as many already know tomb raider was already a video game so why make a Lego game? If anyone’s interested in this look up lego tomb raider animation test and you should fine the prototype footage. (James bond was also supposed to be given a Lego videogame but at the time casino royale came out and it was a little too violent for Lego to cover).

Great video! As a huge Lego nerd myself it is always really interesting to see a bit of a different perspective when it comes to Lego collecting. Personally, to my mind the original set was superior to the modern version, because of how compact it was, so I guess you can say that I liked that version for the reason you didn't. You've said in several of your previous videos that Lego collecting is sort of a lifestyle and honestly I couldn't agree more - I remember having a few action figures and Hot Wheels cars as a kid, but my toy collection was definitely dominated by Lego sets. Your revamped Well of Souls is a definite improvement over the base set - the addition of an another wall definitely helps the model convey the look of an enclosed space instead of looking like a flimsy facade. Considering the limitations you had to work with the build you've made looks pretty solid. One interesting thing to say about Lego's relation with Indiana Jones is that it kind of goes back farther than 2008. There was an original Lego theme called Adventurers, which debuted in 1998. The series' characters were clearly inspired by ones from the Indiana Jones films - one of the commercials for the last wave of sets from 2003 had a spoof of the "If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones" tagline. I managed to get the new set based on the Last Crusade and it's a pretty good one. Unfortunately, the Henry Jones Sr. minifigure is a bit of a downgrade detail-wise when compared to the 2008 version - it is especially visible when you compare the face prints - the old one just screams Sean Connery, while the new one is fine, but a bit more generic. Lego mini figure designs have been getting kind of homogenised over the past decade, I honestly miss the times when they were willing to experiment more with their art style. We can still see them experimenting with it sometimes (the Avatar theme is a good example of that), but it doesn't occur as much as it used to. Sorry for the long text, I just wanted to share some of my thoughts! Have a good day!

As someone who owned the original Well of Souls playset back in the day (and still has it in storage), I agree that it wasn't super complicated and the action features were a little silly (the snake feature is just a shelf that dumps green and red snakes all over the ark, the Anubis statues didn't always break through the wall, and the mummy was just a skeleton hanging by a chain). Plus when you picked it up the construction was so flimsy that there was a good chance the base and pillars would come apart. But for the price and the pieces you got, it was a pretty cool little set. And I'm glad that the new Well of Souls expanded on the concept so well.

05:30 seems to be the way with a lot of Lego sets these days- it’s better if you double them! Like the Star Wars Endor Chase set that came out this year. One is nice, but kinda small plus there’s only one Scout trooper doing the chasing even though in the film Luke and Leia are chased by two troopers…simple solution, buy two! Twice the diorama size and the correct number of scout troopers! 😂 06:33 I do this too. I am neither a creator expert, nor do I wish to have loads and loads of surplus parts stored just to create an idea or a MOC. Personally I prefer to buy sets and either build the set as intended, MOC it into something different using only the set components or buy multiple of the same set to create something from the total parts!
