@@critical-thinker666 I think they used that in both games. But as someone who has already worked with mocap suites, it doesn't guarantee high quality animation. It's pretty much required to tweak animations by hand either way. So the hand animated potato is probably the gold standard. The mocap suite and face tracking is mostly intended to reduce the required amount of time to achieve high quality results.

@@thejackimonster9689 well in Naughty dog they doing that mocap for over a decade so they are prob better at it. + as i said they have ACTUAL (voice) actors on the set playing out the scene in mocap suits and they tracking all elements - cigars/guns and other props. Indy animations looks very very stiff to the point it looks like uncanny valley, faces dont move at all,no muscle movement,no mimic on faces. it looks like something ai generated or last gen... as used in Witcher 3 ... just some program to do all the heavy lifting.

One was a stylistic game going for realistic graphics and the other is based on a live-action movie property going for a pseudo-realistic/stylistic graphics. But all in all, they both look really damn good. Especially 'Uncharted 4'. This game is still pure eye-candy even to this day. But what REALLY sells the quality of these two games, are the facial animations' quality and the minute attention to detail put into them. Your game can have the most beautiful photorealistic graphics ever. But a dead facial animation acting will put the player off almost instantly and kill immersion. This is why Uncharted 4 is still an endearing piece of art even almost a decade later.

Not with that last-gen lighting, shadow quality, and character models. It looks like a PS4 game through and through. The one thing that holds up are the animations. Everything else looks woefully outdated by current AAA standards. Indiana Jones looks decent. It's not mind-blowing visually. Props to it for running at 1800p60, but if the game had targeted something like 1440p30 on consoles, it would have been a show stopper. The visuals are merely alright.

The biggest difference after playing the Indiana Game so far is that it feels like it was designed to mimic plenty of aspects of the movies. So sometimes it'll feel more like an animated IJ movie than an actual video game. A total difference in design philosophy in that regard.

The only thing I have noticed recently is that character models look worse/less advanced than everything else. There is a noticeable improvement to foliage, lighting, etc. But the character models especially the random NPCs look the same if not worse. Also facial animation has gotten more automated which looks worse than before.

Love how the whip under heavy strain behaves like a full clothesline in the wind. Never heard of a rope that isn't highly elastic behaving this way and never heard of one doing this while supporting weight. Devs can't get small details like that right when their older counterparts often always did years ago. The only thing Indiana Jones has graphically over Uncharted 4 from looking at this video is a better lighting system and softer shadows, but I doubt it's worth the 4090 needed to play it when Uncharted 4 can run on an OG PS4. In first person mode, everything is bigger and hard to hide the defects in textures, shadow and reflection. third person mode can easily hide those defects and you are always away from the object you are looking because camera is always behind the main character. If you care about the graphic, goes for the FPV. If you prioritise visual over graphic, goes for third person and no need for tons of high detailed texture.

Big respect to all the developers and Indiana Jones is great but Naughty Dog, along with Rockstar Games, are on another level at making AAA games in my opinion. I don't know how they do it but they always make the most realistic looking games.

Some ppl are forgetting that this is ID Tech engine that already gives you 100s of fps anyway.You could be near 200 fps or more, so you have enough room for RT to kill a 100 fps to use it, then still have another 100 fps to be able to say that it runs good.Any other engine isn't as optimized and forgiving as ID.

Indiana jones actually looks fine to me? Watching on 1080 cheap phone, so obviously I cant appreciate the finer details. Apart from optimization, is the visuals actually bad? Edit: Rope physics seem better in uncharted. Edit 2: I cant say why but fighting seems so bad in Indiana jones. Not the gameplay but the graphics and the enemies.

Buddy, the fighting is deliberately bad as Indy himself is canonically a bad fighter and only does it mainly out of self-defense.

One runs on hardware from 2013 while one has mandatory RTX cards for it to run and the difference ain't that big. Continues to show that ray tracing doesn't do crap if the game can look as good as Uncharted 4 from a decade old hardware

Uncharted 4 is my favorite game of all time and after playing Indiana Jones it’s up there for one of my favorites too. They both looks insane graphically and the fact that naughty dog got both Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 to run on PS4s with 60 fps is magical

Both look solid, both even have their own "game-ish" way of climbing. As others have said Uncharted 4 in its visuals really holds up. What I see Uncharted 4 having a slight edge in is in the hand to hand combat, most of it being due to 3rd person view. You know they give you different suits for Indy but it's like you're not going to be able to see that all the time when not in cutscene or an interactable that they want to go in 3rd person view for. It's one of the few reasons I've held off on preordering game as I do like Indiana Jones. Really hoping they take a page out of Capcom like they did for Resident Evil Village and add 3rd person for this. I know MachineGames typically stays in 1st person view but come on that face in his usual iconic oufit, to not see it in 3rd person fully whenever you want with taking in all the visuals at the same time, just to sometimes rest and just have him stand there basking in its glory, it would be criminal.

Playing Uncharted 4 on PC right now (second run, first one was back in PS4 era). Animations look great but lighting and shadows are VERY outdated. Overall you can definitely tell that it is a last gen game. Indiana looks graphically (shadows, lighting, details) better but has stiff animations IMO.

Indy does look significantly better in environment detail and lighting thanks to RTGI, but Uncharted 4's facial animation still holds up. Indy gets the win overall, though. It's just technologically ahead as a new 2024 release, AND it targets 60fps on launch hardware, even on Series S! That's impressive.
