Not very well known history . . . It all actually goes much deeper: James Bond and Indiana Jones are both based on the Craft of Freemasonry. I am a Mason, had class with Connery at the AFI, read Flemings novels, did my thesis on Indy. There are ritual elements to all this. Mr Play Mountain (Spiel Berg) and Mr Knowledge (Lucas = Light = knowledge) are testing the profane audience to "see" . . . just as Bond was, if you really study the work. It's all about, as was said at the end of Last Crusade, the Templar film, what DID Brother Connery find? "Illumination". The reason this movie was a prequel set in 1935: That's when the CHinese mafia ran the Masons out of the country. Club Obi-Wan? "Oh to be one ask one", as Masons say. "I wanna learn the ways of the Force . . ." and, Ford's/Bond's white suit with the rose? It's alchemical coloring and the rose-and-cross symbology of the Templars. The whip? His cable-tow. This movie overall: A retelling of "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975). Just go watch it. And enjoy seeing Indiana Jones for the first time all over again . . . that goes for everybody.

Along with Gremlins, the PG-13 rating was actually invented for this film. And the guy who fights Indy at the conveyor belt is played by Pat Roach who fought Indy in Raiders as the plane mechanic. Who met a nasty end with a propeller.

It was invented BECAUSE of this film. It came out in May 1984 and the studios scrambled to change the ratings of two releases slated for later that summer. Red Dawn was thr first film to ever be released wirh a PG-13 rating, followed by Gremlins.

"KALI MA" as a kid, watching that sacrifice scene was nuts! 👹❤️‍🔥
@LtCdrXander
@LtCdrXander Жыл бұрын
Same here! I have loved this movie since I was a kid. Interesting fact though: Kali is actually a good goddess in Hinduism. She is the goddess of time, death, and the destruction of evil. The reason she's so crazy looking is that she is a ferocious fighter, but not an evil one. She bravely fights against all manner of demons and evil things in the world. In fact, when she's not busy killing demons, she is a loving mother figure. She is the guardian of all women, and she protects women from harm and abuse. She is also a member of the Dasa Mahavidya, a group of ten goddesses who possess great universal wisdom. Kali wears a garland of skulls and/or severed demon heads which represents conquering one's ego and being humble. It's an interesting juxtaposition since the terrifying imagery of skulls and death associated with Kali actually symbolize confidence, bettering oneself, and the victory of good over evil.

You can thank movies like Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom & Gremlins for creating the PG-13 rating system. It was due to parents who were outraged over the release of a PG-rated "Temple of Doom" that really got this going. The first movie to ever receive the official PG-13 rating was "Red Dawn”.

LOL I feel so dumb for never noticing this before, but I never actually realized until now that the guy who plays Lao Che is actually the same guy who played Frank Dux's Sensei Senzo Tanaka in Bloodsport. Bloodsport is 1 of my all-time favorite movies & I love the Indiana Jones movies, so I do not know why I never put two-and-two together...stupid stupid LOL! But, what's worse is that at first, I actually thought the guy on Christian's T-shirt was actually George Nada from the movie They Live instead of Steve from Stranger Things, LOL! But then I thought, wait a minute, would they have even seen They Live? I hope 1 day eventually if they never saw those movies, Bloodsport, and They Live, they can do reactions to those movies. I know some fans consider this movie not as good as the last one, but I think is underrated and still very fun, if not a bit more fun at times. It is funny considering this is technically a prequel since Lucas did not want Indy fighting Nazis again, that they still do the same gag with the sword against a gun, but this time Indy cannot find his gun, obviously a reference to the first movie. Also, you would think after this movie's events, Indy would have been a lot more believing of magic in the other movie.

I love this film so much. I sometimes wonder if it's actually my favorite Indy movie. It's also worth noting that this is the only sequel to "Raiders of the Lost Ark" that entirely did its own thing. "The Last Crusade" and "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" both ended up recycling some basic plot elements from Raiders. But Last Crusade is still a really good movie. And while Crystal Skull has a bunch of glaring flaws, it's still a fun romp nonetheless. I'm actually kind of worried about the new Indy coming next year. Let's just say I've heard some things about it that are not good.

You two are great!! (Pretty much the only thing you two don't do is cosplay, but no worries 👌) I watch / listen to your reactions all the time, I'm just not usually in a position to comment. Here's some trivia that may not have been shared already: Harrison threw his back out during his fight with the Thuggee in his room, and was out of commission for (a couple months?), so much of his fight scenes were shot by one of his main stuntmen, Vic Armstrong (who doubled for him when he jumped out of the window of the club, among other moments). So Harrison's first scene when he was back from recovery was, ironically, his intro scene in the movie when he sits with Lao Che and his men. The village scenes were shot in reverse order- when all the plant life was planted and flourishing (the end of the movie) was shot first, then when all the plants were dead etc (when they arrive at the village in the movie) was shot last. George Lucas, bless him, thought it would be funny to open the movie with a musical number. Most of the action sequences in here were originally from Raiders and recycled into here.

PG-13, was created starting with "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, " due to level graphic violence. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would not re-edit the movie because it would throw away the pace of the film and reshoots can add more time and budget. George Lucas wanted "The Temple of Doom" to be as dark as "The Empire Strikes Back"; plus, it was also during the making of "Temple of Doom", George Lucas was facing his own personal conflicts - process of divorce and Lucasfilm Finance while Building his companies away from Hollywood Politics and other Big Studios control.

My interpretation is that the bad guys dammed up the river to mine for the missing stones. The dam caused a drought for the villager which lead to famine and hardships. When the bad guys broke the dam trying to drowned our heroes they inadvertently returned prosperity to the village. So it makes for an interesting situation where the stone is magical but it's return is ultimately unnecessary.

This film is pg 13, i see others listed below about it. lucas made this film darker because he wanted a darker storyline and he was going through a bad divorce. sadly they overdid it with the heartgrab (which spielberg wanted it in) which as the writers and steven say and lucas it was more of a different cultural thing than with the hindu . it was banned in india for a very long time. the indian gov't didn't want it filmed in india and that is why it is filmed in Sri Lanka. The thuggee also did exist and it was the British who stopped them; they did murder men women and children by strangulation and bury them near the side of the roads. some did worship Kali but not to the extent in the film. also harrison did hurt his back in the beginning when roach threw him over his back in the bedroom. (roach is the big thuggee guy ; he was the big nazi guy in raiders who fought him at the airplane. famous stunt man) for back then it was very scary personally. i grew up back then and it did scare me. amazingly aliens didn't.

Indy is never in it for the money. It was never established that everyone was under control of the drug. Most likely most of them were fanatics for the religion. The kid was under control so they could use him as the Raja image.

Isn’t crazy the palace had a Temple, a mine, a rock crush and a minecart railway that leads to a bridge all under it?

I feel bad for the character Willie Scot. She's supposed to be fun annoying, but most people I see react to this, take her waaay too seriously and start to almost hate on her. She's supposed to be a fish out of water character.

Glad you guys liked it! there is a deleted scene of Short Round watching a guard get lit by the fire and wake up, just to let you guys know how or why shorty did it (and was in the comic book also). they should of used the torches on the other thuggee members. also not all of them had taken the poison. the little kids in the mine hadn't taken it. (when they are in the little cage the one older indian kid tells indy about the poison. it seems they gave it to the kids who were older) and yes that was dan aykroyd in the begining, ; he cameoed in here and spielberg in blue brothers as the county tax dude; he was eatting a sandwich.

Georges lucas wanted the same treatment with indiana as star wars. Empire strikes back was darker than the first one and he wanted to do the same with indiana movies (with the second one being darker)
