I love the indy, I own a couple pairs but they suffer from QC problems. The mid sole and heal stack are NOT leather. And for a $600 boot it's kind of crazy. But they are comfortable and the style is iconic.

Great timing on the video! I was shopping for Indy’s at Shoemart the other day, I had so many questions. This video answered all of them.

The Indy is no doubt expensive especially for what it is. With that said out if the 10 or so pairs of boots I own my Indy is hands down the most comfortable. I’ll be honest I bought them because of the longevity of the brand and of course Indiana Jones. I don’t regret my purchase one bit.
@Ray035952 жыл бұрын
Pretty spot on. Super comfortable boots I could wear all day, but overpriced by a couple hundred. QC on mine are kinda all over the place. Didn’t expect some of the loose stitching I got. But damn are these comfy and look great so don’t regret end of the day. I picked up one with the regular sole, and knew straight away there wasn’t nearly enough traction, especially for winter. So returned and got one with a commando sole

excellent review. Agree on price. This is a very comfortable boot that is very expensive. Sort of a must have in any boot collection. Love my 2 Alden indy boots!! Thank you for the honest take on it.

I'm kind of surprised he never switched to a pair of WC Russell boots since he's known to favor their loafers. Their high lace Chukka is kind of like if the Alden indy was more rugged and used a true Moccasin construction. They have some the coolest looking classic 40's -50's style midwestern hunting boots, I suppose the fact that their boots are generally intended for hunt has kept them off the radar. It's a shame because I'd really love to see a review of their Plantation series birdshooters. With the waxed OD Canvas duck side panels they're about the coolest moc toe boots I've ever seen. They remind me a bit of the interwar period Okinawa boots that would eventually lead to the development of the iconic jungle boot.

Thanks for anothe rnice review. Alden's and Viberg are the Holy Grail of bootmakers. I think if a person is really into owning a great pair of well made boots, I don't think you could go wrong. But, you are right about price. It's a tough descision.....

I just bought the Grant Stone Ottawa in crimson cxl because I was looking for a pair of Indy’s because of the style of the moc toe. I couldn’t find it anywhere else so I ended up buying the Ottawa because I like their nst style. If it weren’t for the Indy I wouldn’t have gotten a pair of the Ottawa’s. I will most likely buy more down the line.

Was heavily considering getting some of these last year. I love the look of them, but from what everyone says the quality control is very hit or miss and the finishing isn’t up to par with the price tag. They are £550 where I live and that’s if you can find them, can get some nicks or whites for that.

I do have a pair of 405, mostly because I love the look of it. The quality is good, the finishing is good, the quality control is fine. It will last you many years. Unless there is a construction issue, I don’t mind tiny bad details. The retail price is high, but if you can find a discounted pair or a just slightly used pair for a good price, why not :)
@englishboots88012 жыл бұрын
@@Reaperszs I agree great looking and comfortable boot, but on the pair i got you could see the staples where the 270 degree welt ended. Here in the uk these boots aren't as easily obtainable i would buy another pair but not mail order.

@MarcP5267 How does the leather age? It looks like it's designed to not patina, so I wonder. I have a pair of 403s that have developed some patina. I don't necessarily demand that. I just wonder if the 405s are supposed to stay looking the same and whether they do.

Bought these in 2018 when it was less than 550. Truthfully my favorite boot I own. Been with me everywhere, but it's needing maintenance since it's been my main boot until 2020 when the lockdowns happened and I picked up some Thursdays to get more variety. I may need to send it in to Alden, but the soles are still holding up.
@spr00sem00se2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to live in a boot for two years. That's pretty poor for something this pricey.
@XiaNingTian2 жыл бұрын
@@spr00sem00se It has been two years. The maintenance needed is super minor. I opted to replace the heels, had to reinforce the left boot a bit and I'm currently replacing the heel inserts because those are shot. I practically did live in my Aldens for 2 whole years. Disneyland, Universal, all of SoCal, parts of East Asia. My Aldens still are my main boot. I still wear them in my rotation, but picked up Thursdays for a dressier looking boot. My 405s can only be dressed up so far and I also just wanted to have a rotation. It's still the crown jewel in my boot collection.
@spr00sem00se2 жыл бұрын
That's not too bad then. I was a Mormon missionary for two years and I don't believe that anyone gives more abuse to footwear than Mormon missionaries. I had a pair of Goodyear welted Clarks, I paid 89 dollars. The sole developed a small split after two months. Money refunded. I cut the split to stop it. They lasted a year before needing to be heeled and soled. Then soled again at basically two years of use. I estimate they did between 25 and 30km a day! For two solid years and the uppers were in great condition. The insides of the sole were perfect. But the heel wore through the goretex liner. I patched it with duct tape. No more problem . These 405 look great. But they are very pricey. I may get the Wested copies of then at some point.

The Indy’s are the most comfortable boots I own. I like the style and silhouette as well, especially the heel and ankle shape. Mine were $530 in 2016. $610 is pretty steep.
@boots_4_me Жыл бұрын
I think that Grant Stone’s boots are of Alden quality at a fraction of the cost. I am confident that my Ottawa’s are just as comfy if not more than the Tanker boots and the Indy. Alden is nice but their price is outrageously expensive.
@Murtagh653 Жыл бұрын
@@boots_4_me the only thing that stops me from buying Grant Stone is the last, from what i can tell, the last on the Indy's is rather wide, and good for your feet, unlike most boots in this style, whereas the Grant Stone lasts all look rather narrow, which is a shame, as their build quality appears to be much better, with better materials, better workmanship and lower prices.
@pantofis2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the build quality in Red Wing is a lot more solid. With Alden I had quite a few burs seams and the soles began to get unglued after 2 years. Also the fit was weird with the heel kind of wide, so that when I laced up, the gap between the eyelets was nearly gone.

I think it's fool-hardy to spend $600 on these boots. How can you justify that price, especially when it's not made from the best leather and material? You could get so much more quality for your money. Allen Edmonds sells dress shoes in shell cordovan in rare colors for $700. You could order a really badass pair of nicks boots that would be made of the best materials and would last forever and have money leftover. You could get a really nice, dressy leather boot from a lot of places that'd be built from better material for less money. Does the Indiana Jones advertisement really work that well? Damn. Alden owes Harrison Ford a million dollars.
@Slappadatface5 ай бұрын
They suck now. They used to be great but Alden, surprise surprise, saw dollar signs with all the fan girls and cosplay dorks coming out of the woodwork to fall over themselves to pay whatever price Alden charged for boots that shouldn’t be one dollar over $275 at the VERY MOST. But I guess that’s life now. No quality no pride and certainly no shame. What a bullshit scam.
