Indianapolis is a great midwestern city! It was actually when I was visiting Indianapolis that I had the thought to start making videos about cities. In this series I briefly touch on a city's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make the city unique. Thanks for watching: Indianapolis Overview | An informative introduction to Indianapolis, Indiana.

I have lived in Downtown for the last 3 years. I came here on a whim from Cincinnati and I love it. The locals aren't the most passionate, but I think that's changing. People need to realize how unique parts of this city are. How many cities have a canal? How many cities have giant monuments like the War Memorial and Soldiers and Sailors? We've got great museums, parks, vibrant neighborhoods (Fountain Square, Broad Ripple), tons of art and culture (believe it or not). Also, as of a few weeks ago, they are closing off part of the circle to build a public park that will have food trucks and games and stuff like that. Other parts of the city are in disrepair and need help. But overall, Indy's cool. I wish more people knew that.

Another fact here! Indiana is considered the leading state in robotics, with almost every county having at least one robotics program available to kids. VEX Robotics is the main provider of equipment for these schools and they also host one of the largest statewide competitions in Indianapolis. My team actually one a couple years ago and got a ticket to go to Dallas and compete in the largest worldwide competition.

Having lived in Indy multiple times in my early adulthood, I have a fondness for the city. I use to work downtown right next to the Circle Center Mall. The canal walk is one of my favorite places followed by the Monon Trail. There's a lot of sketch to the east and west of downtown, but it's a great place to live...especially if you enjoy history, sports, and culture.

Indianapolis has the Indiana State Museum and, with regards to Lucas Oil Stadium, it was built with Marching Band in mind. Bands of America hosts the National Championship each November for America's high school marching bands. Strangly enough, I thought the White River was deep enough for navigation. It's where the Canal empties into, rather neatly. Thank you @City Geek.

I have lived in Indy for three years. 2 in a half years in Eagle creek. The last 6 months I’m near southeast close to Fountain Square. I absolutely love it. I do feel a Connection to the victory statue. The day I moved here was the day I started my quest towards my dream of becoming an attorney. Victory is the only way in and out of here. I hope the culture downtown never changes, and although I am not from here. I feel as though even if I move away, Indy will always feel like home 😢.

I don’t plan on staying in Indiana for the rest of my life (I want to settle down in Nashville, Tennessee) but living in Indianapolis has felt like it’s opened up a lot of things for me. Wow! As a fellow geography geek I really thought I knew more about Indy since my wife’s cousin lives there. We’ve never visited, but I think this will convince my family to do so. I am really not in love with planned cities since I love the quirkiness of the streets in most “organically grown” cities originating by rivers, mountains, bodies of water or islands. But with that said, Indy really does an outstanding job with city planned features. The circle hub in the center is phenomenal. And the large park downtown looks terrific. Very funny to note that Indy has a river walk with no river?! Ha ha, That’s a clever touch! But it Looks amazing. Great video as always.

There’s going to be a lot of things changing in the next few years with the city from a boom in apartment buildings and new hotels downtown to the city actually trying to get an MLS team. If that happens, that would be really cool. I would love to see them do a Hollywood-style sign like Detroit did but do it in their own way.

Wouldn't necessarily call this informative seeing as it just highlights what's good in indy. I've lived here for about 3 years now and it's really not a great place to live. Maybe as a visitor it's more fun, but after riding on roads that are rougher than just straight up off roading it starts to really suck. That combined with the crime, constant smell of crap in the air, lack of any recreation outside of bars and sports, and a job market as empty as the rest of the state, it's really not the best. Only way to make it here is if you were hired, THEN moved here, considering they don't hire anyone not from carmel or north. Honest score of this city is between a 5 and 6 out of 10.

As someone that has been a resident for 4 1/2 years (going on 5 years next April), I have been very happy to live here. I used to live in a small town named Princeton for 17 years in southwestern Indiana and it’s definitely a move I’m glad I made. I’ve felt a lot happier in my life ever since I moved here. A lot of people like to degrade the city because of the crime rates here but the majority of violent crime as far as shootings go most of that happens on the east side. I’m not planning to live here for the rest of my life but still plan on living here for a very long time.

I have lived in Indianapolis my entire life. It's a mixed bag for sure. Climate: Shit. It's so gray here for so much of the year. When it does get warm and sunny, it also gets humid and sticky. The climate is not hospitable. People: Like any other place, there is a mixture of good people and assholes. I tend to think a lot of the assholes live outside of the city limits. The notion of "Hoosier Hospitality" is a crapshoot. I have definitely felt more welcome as a tourist in some other places than I do as a resident here. Entertainment: There really is a lot to do here. No, it's not New York or Chicago, but it's not dull by any means. You probably won't get bored. Sports: A lot of that entertainment is sports. We have the NBA (Pacers) and NFL (Colts). We also have the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is a way bigger deal than you might think...at least in May. We also have the WNBA (Fever), USL soccer (Indy Eleven), AAA baseball (Indians), and ECHL hockey (Fuel). The NBA's G League is also coming to nearby Noblesville...new team name TBA. Crime/Safety: Terrifying. We have really had a marked increase in homicides over the past few years. The per-capita homicide rate is considerably higher than Chicago. Economy: You can find a job pretty easily here. My parents moved here when my mom was pregnant with me because the economy was so bad in Evansville where they lived before. Cost of living: It's lower than most cities, but it's also rising quite a bit because the housing market has spiraled out of control recently. Still, you will get a lot more house for the same price as many other cities. Food scene: It's pretty good. There are lots of options, especially on the north side and in Carmel where all the money is. Downtown is improving for restaurants. We are tripping over breweries. Transit: Although the city is taking some positive steps to improve it, we are going from an F system to D- system. We need to do much more, but the state government prevents that. You really need a car here. Government: The city government seems a bit out of touch with our problems. They seem more interested in attracting conventions and tourism than fixing the basics, and it shows. The roads are in terrible condition, and a lot more people are killing each other. Meanwhile, the state government is cuckoo crazy with culture wars. Indianapolis is the state capital (that's why the city was built in the first place), so it is easy to witness the state government's insanity up close. Indianapolis is a deep blue city in a deep red state. The Republican state legislators and governor seem to take pleasure in sticking it to Indianapolis, which has real consequences. We Indy residents vote for people at the state level who represent our interests, but they tend to be outnumbered.

Completely disagree about the climate and I’ve lived here my entire life. 4 seasons is great and it is not bad in the summer at all. Would much rather an indiana summer than anywhere in the south or west. Even somewhere like Minnesota gets way more humid and way more mosquitoes. The climate is not hospitable? That is an insane statement when there are beginning to be a lot of parts in the United States where the climate is actually inhospitable
