Thanks to Kamikoto for sponsoring this video - check out kamikoto.com/Xiaomanyc for $50 off your order! What happens when a foreigner speaks the Gujarati language, which is one of India’s hundreds of unique languages? Many Indians here in America are from this one state in India called Gujarat, so today I speak Gujarati with them. People were totally surprised, and then they gave me free food. Speaking of free food, I also tried a lot of great Gujarati food like paan, masala chaas, bajra no rotlo, and of course Gujarati thali. Yum!

Was wondering when you'd try Gujarati! So fun to watch as an American-Gujarati. Did you find the food sweet (like the vegetable dishes and daal)? Many people believe Guju food tastes sweet, but not all gujus make their dishes sweet! My family tends to make our dishes on the spicier side vs. sweet. Glad to see you enjoyed!

@@jlegendary4879 well....emmm...you know that it is kind of a running joke in the country that we Gujaratis can sweeten most things from food to business deals and its cause we have a sweet tooth and thereby a sweet tongue. lately it's getting pretty outta hand and so many find it frustrating especially if they're from the city of Surat from southern Gujarat since they like most of their food to be spicier versions of the sweeter dishes.

Some CLASSIC Gujju dishes i hope you get to eat are these!! 1. Khichadi (basically our version of comfort food "Chicken Soup" -- so easy to make and perfect for a rainy day-- rice and lentil porridge with turmeric. also has similar versions across north india and bangladesh), i love it with Dahi(yogurt) or you can add spicy pickled mango & Chaash which is a spiced buttermilk. 2. Kadhi (an incredible hot sour tiny bit sweet soup made with flour, herbs, spices, and a bit of dairy) usually eaten with rice, a thicker moong daal, rotli and a shakh/sabji/sabzi vegetable sautee. 3. Ghésh (this is a comfort food: rice made with milk instead of water, best served hot with ghee and extra milk🙏🏾) Gujarati dishes are wonderful for folks wanting something unique amd incredible while being vegetarian !!

Been watching your vids for a while now as it's truly impressive what you do. Finally I have something I can actually analyse for accuracy. You get the point across and that's all that matters for breaking the communication barrier, but of course it'll be tough with so many other languages floating around in the noggin. Interestingly I noted the use of Hindi numbering (ek, do, teen) as opposed to the Gujarati equivalent (ek, beh, tran - sorry my phonetic transcription of these sucks as I'm not clued up on any IPA besides beer). It's not an issue as most Gujaratis, if not all, will know basic numbers in both languages. My mind doesn't seem to be quite as astute with multiple languages but I think it's almost a superpower, quite possibly the best one to have in real world environments. Keep it up

I just moved to England and started a new job where I go to hundreds of independent small convenience shops around Kent and act as a business advisor to shop owners. Out of the 40 I've been to so far, only one of them was owned by a Brit and literally exactly 10 of them were owned by a Mr or M(r)s Patel. One Greek, one Canadian (unexpectedly), 8 Sri Lankans and the rest Indian. I speak a small amount of Hindi (only about 100 words) and tried it today in a shop but they were speaking Gujarati (ofc they also speak Hindi as it's the national language). I wanna learn some regional Indian languages now, especially since part of my job is selling certain stock to them. Could be invaluable. Those Gujarati guys today though, were so hard to deal with though haha, they tried every trick in the book to get more money out of me in our contract, including making up some stories knowing I was new, and refusing to sign the final signature after signing all the others unless they got an extra £50. If I spoke some Gujarati I bet it would have been 10x less stressful dealing with them.
